More than just a heatsheet
May 08, 2009
Being a skeptic of sorts I decided to put the heatsheet to the test on a 3 day backpacking trip. On the first night I used it as a primary blanket and it was warmer than my wool blanket I normally use, it did have a tendency to be hard to move in as it let the cold air in when I did but it is a survival blanket and it more than exceeded my expectations for warmth. The second day I used it as a makeshift rain catchment and tent and it again did it's job and more. The third day I wanted to see just how visible it would be from a far distance so I covered my gear at camp and went on a scouting trip about a mile away to a ridge overlooking the camp. All I can say is if a search party was trying to find me this heatsheet would more than increase my chances of being spotted.
Great weight and size.

Fortunately, I haven't yet had the opportunity to use this Emergency Blanket - frankly I hope I never have to. However, it is now a permanent fixture in my pack and it's very packable and lightweight and that is what's important now.
