Atom SV Hoody
December 22, 2012

The Atom SV is very light and has good warmth to weight ratio. The hood adjustment is a great feature, and the cuffs are just snug enough to keep the sleeves where they belong. For me this is a good stand-alone jacket down to about 30 degrees, and after that I’m looking for something warmer to layer over it. It’s a good layering jacket if it’s really cold, but the Atom LT is less bulky for layering. The sizing of the Atom SV is definitely roomier than the Atom LT. This is another very functional jacket from the company that always delivers quality.

Great Insulator
November 24, 2011

Excellent as a mid layer on really cold days, and just as good by itself with a baselayer on most days 5-35°F. Nice spandex collar inside to keep snow out. Water resistant. Packs super light and tight.

The ATOM SV HOODY is a knockout
December 15, 2011

WOW...I am really digging this latest jacket from Arc'teryx. I am 5'8" 180lbs. and the medium fits perfect. I bought one for me and my brother. It is light as a feather and it actually layers fine with my Stingray (also in medium#, but I bought the SV as a stand alone piece, as I layer with an Atom LT. You get alot for your money here, 40% more Coreloft insulation over the LT, an insulated hood with front AND rear adjustment, hem adjustment #both sides#, Driclime type material in the pockets for handwarmers and they have matched that around the collar #following up the sides of your face when the hood is up as well), a section of spandex type material that acts as a gasket, covering the entire back of your neck to keep out the wind and snow. Like all Arc'teryx items, what a well thought out piece. I got the black, I was hoping that the color of the moniker would not be white. I was pleased to see that it matches the silver lining, very nice. I am as excited about the SV as I am with the shell I recently purchased. I can't wait to put it to the test out in the Cascades and Mt. Hood in the coming months.

Nice jacket
January 13, 2011

I live in the mid-Atlantic area and have been looking for a good winter jacket that isn't too bulky. The SV hoody is very warm (warmer than the LT), yet, because of its synthetic (non-down insulation) does not make me look too puffy. I am 5'5", about 155 pounds. It is cut a little bit larger than the LT to allow some layering underneath. It also compresses down to a very small size for easy packing. The only drawback I see is that it is not waterproof (although it purports to have some water resistance). If you use it in cold, but dry conditions, and are able to separately use a waterproof shell for really rainy conditions, this jacket will do nicely. If you really need an insulated waterproof jacket, consider the Fission.

I love synthetic insulation
December 24, 2010

I had purchased the lighter Atom LT and loved it so much that I bought the SV model. This is a very nice product. The LT does not have draw strings for the hood, this one does. This hood is also helmet compatible. The SV fits a little looser than the LT so it allows for some layering. It is also warmer. I find that when I am not backpacking, I am reaching for my synthetic layers more than my down ones.

Great Mid-Layer
December 28, 2011

Purchased the Atom SV hoody to layer beneath a gore-tex shell; the overall fit is perfect for this, while the "stretchy cuffs" do a great job of keeping in warmth and nesting underneath glove liners - it also functions very well as a standalone jacket. It is a bit pricey but I have found it to be worth every cent.

Not for Me
December 29, 2010

The dead bird Atom SV hoody looks like it would do a fantastic job of keeping me warm in the cold. I just did not like the unstructured fit. I also have a Patagucci nano puff and Montbell Thermawrap hoody and while they may not be as warm, I prefer them to the Atom SV.

Extremely warm and lightweight jacket. Great by itself or layered underneath a shell. Looks great, too... This is a great jacket, and I highly recommend it.

In fact, this insulated jacket is more suitable as a middle layer, it is very comfy and lightweight. As a outer layer, it is not very well for extreme bad weather. As for me, it 's not very durable . It does provide much warm in the winter, I am wearing this jacket inside a GoreTex hardshell.

Super Jacket/Layer
November 14, 2011

I couldn't be happier with the Atom SV. Its incredibly light and very warm for its weight. The insulation covers the whole jacket including the hood which makes the jacket excellent as a stand alone or an insulating layer under a shell. Sizing is true to sized I'd say.

very light and warm
March 20, 2011

I already have the Atom LT hoody, the Atom LT jacket and the Atom LT vest and I use them all frequently in layering. I got the SV because I wanted lightweight but warm and wind resistant outerwear for Spring skiing. It works perfectly. It runs larger than the others but I still wear a medium (6' 160 lbs). When there is lots of moisture I wear it as a mid layer under the softshell Stingray jacket. One of my favorites!

a big surprise
January 17, 2012

I compare this to other jackets I own that are often referred to as "belay style". Its strong points in that regard are: attached hood, good face coverage, no-fiddle elastic cuffs, single handle main zipper, well placed waist and hood adjustment pulls. I like also the slick nylon interior making it easy to layer over the snaggiest fabrics. I have an atom LT in large and this atom SV hoody in XL, and the two make a great layering set. The surprise is the warmth/weight ratio. This jacket is amazingly light (xl= 542g) and provides really good warmth! I have a couple jackets that are lighter and are not nearly as warm. I have a few that are heavier and also are not as warm as the SV. Having had an atom LT hoody for long time, I was skeptical that the SV would be much different and didn't want to pay the somewhat high price, but I was all wrong- the SV is really much warmer and worth the $$. I've worn it down to 30 degrees in medium wind and it does the job of heavier jackets. Fabrics are soft and quiet too. A good deal even considering the price tag!

great jacket
January 11, 2011

I really like versatility of the 100 grams of insulation. Works as a great layering piece or can be worn on its own for almost every day of the winter here in the Rocky Mountains. The jacket feels very light on. Packs down really small. The main zipper is very smooth. The elastic on the cuffs are perfect. The hand warmer pockets have a nice fleece patch for the back of your hands.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
