Description

The classic fleece jacket gets a nice upgraded look with the Arcteryx Men's Covert Cardigan. The jacket's knit sweater-like appearance and hand breaks from the standard fuzzy fleece look in favor of a more traditional knit wool appearance. The Polartec® Thermal Pro fleece fabric may look casual, but it retains the breathability and moisture wicking performance of polyester fleece. The Covert Jacket's dense weave delivers serious warmth and helps keep the wind at bay whether you are on the sidelines cheering on the local team or layering up for a day in the mountains. Arcteryx gives the Covert a relaxed fit and uncluttered appearance that keep it casual, but it remains an excellent layering piece and standalone fleece jacket worthy of mountain adventure. Update your fleece wardrobe with the Arcteryx Men's Covert Cardigan.

Really comfortable and doesn't impede my movements. On a cold winter and windy Chicago morning wearing a light thermal shirt, Arcteryx light jacket and Covert Cardigan I was still warm. Medium fits well and not baggy for my 5'8 165 lbs frame.

High Quality Fleece
December 22, 2011

This is my second Covert Cardigan Fleece. I still wear my first one, just wanted an additional color. It's extremely versatile. I'll wear it snowboarding underneath my shell because it provides excellent warmth, yet doesnt' constrict your movement. I'll wear it golfing. I'll also wear it casually around town because it looks good and is very comfortable. Personally I like the shorter collar which elimates the decision of wearing it up or folding it down (because it is shorter, it's easy to wear it up). Probably not something you'll want to wear in winding conditions as the wind goes through it easily, unless you wear a shell over it. It's much more durable than traditional fleeces. All in all an excellent piece of clothing and well worth the price

Smooth Cardigan
October 24, 2012

Softness of the cardigan gives you a nice comfy feel while keeping you warm. Can be worn at 50-65 F day or night. I went to yosemite 3 times this summer and have worn this cardigan the whole time. The best part is - its light weight and its luxury feel inside and outside. As you are wearing this and your skin brushes through the velvetty soft wool or someone else touching your cardigan ... it gives a feeling of luxury comfort with smart look. I cannt live without it cold.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Stellar Day-To-Day Fleece Jacket
December 12, 2009

I purchased the Covert Cardigan in Abyss Blue for my husband, and he loves it! Here's why I would highly recommend this product: 1) Fantastic fit - This jacket fits well; I wouldn't call it a "slim" fit, but it is more fitted and not bulky. I think Arc'teryx runs pretty true to size, although if you're used to wearing your clothes/jackets on the big side, I'd order up a size. My husband is medium build, so this brand fits him very well. 2) Finish - It's fleece, and very soft, but with a more "finished" finish, i.e., it doesn't look "fleecy". It looks more upscale. Not only good for warmth as a layer, but looks really nice on its own for a day/night on the town. 3) Versatility - Great for outdoor activities but also looks cool with jeans/cords. 4) Nice color - I purchased the jacket in the Abyss Blue color. It's looks fantastic, and goes with pretty much everything. And, a nice change from black. 5) No pilling - I did see a review by another customer (woman, for the Covert Hoody - so same material/fleece) that say her jacket pilled from the get-go. We haven't found that to be true at all after a couple of months of wear, 4-5 times per week. (However, I haven't washed it yet.) It looks like it will hold up fine. But, if that's not the case, I will post an update to my review. Customers do pay a premium for Arc'teryx, but I've found their quality to be excellent and worth it. Plus, Altrec has great prices, and the free shipping is a huge bonus.

Love it!!
January 14, 2009

Great cardigan that looks like a sweater (with a zipper front), but keeps you warm like a light-weight jacket. Can be worn over a shirt, and also as a mid-layer, under a heavier jacket. Love Arc'teryx products, and this is no exception!

The Perfect Gift
December 16, 2009

My husband just opened up his Covert Cardigan Abyss. He loved it. He's worn it inside where we keeps our house on the cool side. He's worn it when we went out to eat and he's worn when he put up the last of the Christmas lights. It's now his "do everything in it" jacket. It's the perfect gift.

Great mid-weight or stand alone fleece.
April 03, 2011

I am deployed to Afghanistan where the winter weather can be very harsh and transportation is usually your two legs, so being outside is a fact of life. This is one of the best mid-weight fleece I have ever owned, and my extended time here (6 years) has given me ample time to test a lot of clothing and gear. I am 6' and 250 and the XL Covert fits great - not too tight for a bigger framed guy. Someone in the 200-225 muscular range might want to choose the XL over a L. It was very comfortable as an outer jacket in lower 20 degree weather with only a base layer (usually Patagonia level 2 Capeline) and a shirt underneath. I also wore it comfortably under an Arc'teryx Alpha jacket during rain and snow. As with any soft fleece, once the wind picks up, it will pass through the material. The build quality is top notch with great seams and zippers. I do have two gripes though. Once is that the fleece seemed to pill pretty quickly, especially around the sleeves. Yes, fleece pills and this is a working jacket for me, but if you are purchasing for style, keep that in mind. The second issue is the single external zippered sleeve pocket is practically useless. It is not big enough to fit a cell phone, id/credit card or mp3 player. Extra pockets should be a standard feature on all modern jackets. A useable side sleeve pocket and an internal pocket would make this jacket perfect.

Perfect middle layer jacket, It's very suitable for cold weather, firstly, it's light and warm, and it touches very soft, I feel so comfy. It's very breathable too. Same with other Arc'teryx ones, it has a high quality. Most of all, it looks very stylish. I am very satisfied with its performance and appearance.

Can't beat Arc'teryx!
December 13, 2009

This completes my covert collection and it fits much better under a shell than my hoody's. The XL is perfect for a 6' 220 pounder. It's great around the home where my heat never rises above 62 degrees. In the mid-atlantic area, the cardigan and a shell is more than enough for just about any weather we encounter. The sleeve pocket could be a bit bigger; a cell phone is a tight fit.

Looks great when new. Very comfortable. BUT it's not a wind-proof coat, it really lets the wind through. It does pile after minimal wear, however, the piling is finer than traditional fleece.

Quality and Comfort at a Reasonable Price
January 01, 2010

Once again Arc'teryx has delivered with a high quality and extremely comfortable product. This sweater is very versatile. It can be used as a mid layer under a shell but also works well as a jacket on its own. Fabric is extremely soft and warm. If you can find the Altrec discount on Arc'terx products DO NOT HESITATE making a purchase. You won't regret it.

Great Jacket!!
December 23, 2009

Nice jacket. Simple designed and very light weight. It is very good for town wear or middle layer.

A stiff fit
February 04, 2010

I own 3 other Arcteryx jackets and many Patagonia so thought this was a safe purchase. While the feel for the fabric felt good. ( not brilliant) inside and out, the jacket was full cut and stiff. My reason I returned the jacket was because the raised (could not be folded down) mock turtle collar poked my neck below my chin annoyingly. Each time I lowered my head the oversized collar point jabbed me. Not so with the R4 or Arcteryx Apache which fit brilliantly!

An excellent purchase

Arcteryx Covert Cardigan
May 22, 2011

I wanted a fleece jacket that did not look like it a sweatshirt. The Covert cardigan was the right choice. It can be worn around town, or for business casual, or it can we worn snowshoeing. It is as warm as can be expected from fleece. In severe cold I layered it with a windproof outer shell (OR) and was always comfortable. It looks good and is comfortable. I wear a 35 inch sleeve shirt and have no problem with the sleeve length of the Coverrt. This was my frist Arcteryx purchased but it won't be my last. After five months of wear it still looks like the day I got it.

The practicality of a cardigan without looking like Grandpa.
December 09, 2009

Got it for my husband. Great sweater alternative. It's like a fleece/sweater hybrid. It's sporty and athletic looking but in a sophisticated, stylish, and subtle way. It also seems a very practical piece: warm, breathable, and easy care. The full zip is great for regulating temperature. Thanks.

Super comfortable, very nice cut, warm too
February 22, 2009

I have to say this is an outstanding fleece jacket. Somewhere between a sweater and a fleece in feel, it is cut athletically without being tight or restricting movement, feels great over a t-shirt or over thermals (I really like the Icebreaker bodyfit merinos). I also own the Zip neck version of this fleece, and wanted one with a full zipper for those times that you are going to have to be adjusting for warmth/cooling without having to take it off. Mine is dark slate and it looks very nice, I can easily wear this in the office. It is casual but still looks very good. I am very pleased with it. Wear it underneath a hard shell, and you are ready for serious outdoor weather. It is a bit expensive but worth the money.

January 21, 2011

Once again, I'm giving a great review for an Arc'teryx Fleece.... This one is my favorite so far, and is warm, cozy, fits perfectly, and most of all, looks great when coming out of the wash... These cost a little more, but well worth it... And, the best part of the experience was purchasing the fleece from Altrec... the rep went out of his way to find the correct item, and get it to me quickly... these guys rock!

arc'teryx has always served me well and this is no exception. The garment is functional and doesn't pill after being washed. Definitely recommend for day and light hikers.

Fantastic mid layer
December 22, 2009

The Covert Cardigan is a comfortable and well constructed fleece. I'm 6', 175lb and the large is a little roomy on me - but that'll make layering easier. I chose the dark slate color and will say that the two tones are switched (main color is darker, with the accents at the pockets being lighter - like the Woodsmoke color) from what is shown on the website for dark slate. I actually prefer it this way.

Covert Hoody: quality, warm, soft, durable.
October 27, 2012

I bought this for my husband: He said it is great for its comfort, as lounge-ware, and he will also use it as a mid-weight layer, it fits true to size, its soft and warm, he uses it almost everyday, and wheatgrass is great color. The side laminate pockets are great to stash a hat or gloves. And the arm pocket fits spending money, house keys and other small items. It is a quality, long-lasting garment and he plans to get more, as he has the hoodless version also.

Make it a Staple
October 30, 2012

I just bought my second one of these cardigans. I wore the first one almost every day through the fall and winter for the past 3 years. It has still held its shape and looks great, but I bought a new one because I wanted a different color. Now I wear that one everyday and the old one is in my office. You can't go wrong with this cardigan. A couple things to know, however. It is not windproof. It is only good as a solo to about 50 degrees. You can definitely wear it under something else and over two layers.

Nice Sweater
December 27, 2011

I'm a big fan of the Covert 1/4 zip, so I finally tried the cardigan. As with the 1/4, I would call it a sweater instead of a jacket, and its fit is true but rides a little higher at the waist (I'm 5'10" about 170 and the M is just big enough). The only problem I have with these sweaters is that they tend to ball up a bit after several washings. Overall, great sweater, and I plan to get another one.

This is a super product which is very comfortable. Perfect for for most casual settings. Looks great, but feels even better. Many thanks to Altrec's staff, there online-phone service is priceless!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Excellent quality...looks sharp
May 22, 2010

Others have noted the top notch construction and materials so I won't bore you with details. The sole reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the collar. The collar works well when fully zipped up...keeps your neck reasonable warm without coming up too high under your chin. However...when unzipped it is too short to fold back and those with beards (like me) will find that the zipper tracks tend to catch your chin hairs when you move your head side to side. Other than that minor complaint...great fleece zip top that is a cut above the rest.

Great feel and wearablity
December 12, 2008

This fleece is amazing. The wool-like texture looks very dressy, but still keeps its athletic look. I've read some reviews stating it runs small, but I think it runs true to size. Fits perfectly under a shell. The fabric has great stretch to it, to wear while boarding/skiing. It moves with you. Very warm.

Not quite
February 28, 2010

This item has the usual fine Arcteryx fit, and the material is both warm and sumptuous. I tried out abyss blue, which is a wonderful deep navy blue. So, happy with my purchase?... No, I returned it. The collar sucks. Which is a strange criticism, because 10 years ago, Arcteryx had more than managed collar and cuff details to perfection. The collars were universally high and snug and wonderfully functional. This item has a low and loose collar. How's that for evolution in reverse? Perhaps they have children designing some garment details.

Pretty Good Overall
January 20, 2010

It has more of an athletic fit than say TNF Denali, which I think is rather sloppy. It isn't as warm as the Denali, because it uses a lighter weight weight fleece. It does pile after minimal wear, however, the piling is finer than traditional fleece. I actually bought a "fabric shaver" and found that it looks as good as new once you run over it a couple of times.

excellent
July 21, 2010

Like all Arcteryx products, the quality and attention to detail on the Covert Cardigan is way above average. It has such a refined style I use it for more sophisticated occasions than just outdoor adventures. It does require a wind layer to retain heat in windy conditions.

Know what it does do and what it doesn't do
December 15, 2009

As others say, it doesn't block the wind; yet I find that an advantage, since it increases ventilation through the jacket and allows me to wear it on mid-temp days, when other fleeces would be too hot. My experience with pilling--a small bit of it around the sleeves ends, but nothing irritating. Final words: The feel of this garment is great- cozy yet stylish.
