A good base layer and very comfortable
December 14, 2009

I owned 2 of these in XL some time ago, lost a little weight and now I just purchased a size L in Woodsmoke. My older 2 were made in Canada and I see this one is made in China. Surprisingly, I do not see a difference in quality. As others have stated, I too do not suggest this as your only layer on most days away from civilization. Paired with a lightweight wind stopping shell (I happen to pair it with a Mountain Hardwear shell where the shell's hood rolls-up into the collar) it works fine. I also use it with my down jacket. An excellent combination. Especially if you forget your hat! The hood itself is probably the best functioning feature of this product. It fits like a glove. It stays put when you turn your head even without drawstring and toggles. No need to wear a cap under this hood. Unlike a standard zip hoody, this is quite refined. All the nice touches standard to Arc'teryx products. My only thought design-wise would be to add a fleece layering to the inside pockets. They are only lined (on the inner side) with mesh material. Perhaps this may have added slightly more bulk to that area however I do get a little draft if left open. Overall a very nice product.

Arc'teryx: Men's Covert Cardigan Hoody
December 22, 2006

Great product, worth every penny. I use this as a mid layer for skiing. Not the best for an outer layer because it does not block wind at all. It has a very classy look and it is made with an extremely soft grade of fleece. Order one size larger than you normally would. Try any of the Arc'teryx products and you will be hooked, just be prepared to sticker shock.

Perfect
September 17, 2006

Perfect and light fitting, under for example a soft shell jacket or just for a short walk in the woods, perfect as expected

Lovely, comfy. Silly price.
December 22, 2009

This is my second purchase of said item. I hummed and hawed the first time because with Arcteryx there's often a certain sticker shock. What we have here is a $200 fleece which is certainly not warmer than a $100 fleece, and further, to deconstruct my purchase, it is certainly not a piece of gear. I find scuba hoods all but useless for outside activities. So how come I've got two of them? Well Arcteryx quality produces an almost existential calm for those of us who are reassured by tight stitching and superlative quality. And then there's fit: At 5'9' and 172 pounds with big fat shoulders, I'm barely squeaking into medium. Other gear companies seem to have adopted a sliding scale of measurements that make mail order purchases a little haphazard. Patagonia's "Better Sweater Hoody" for example is nicely put together, but is modeled on the proportions of a traditional English milk bottle (thin shoulders, fat hips). I use this item solely for indoor survival as evenings in our house usually entail camping by the fire with one side cold and the hoody is lovely comfy. So to conclude, if you have all the essentials of your gear, then indulge in this beautifully made fleece, or perhaps you can entice a willing adult to buy it for you as a gift...

Extremely well designed and built. Expect it will last a lifetime. In spite of the high cost, feels like a good value.

Excellent Layering Piece
November 14, 2010

As mentioned in the other reviews, this jacket is not great at stop wind. It is a bit too thin for that. However, it has a very athletic fit and provides considerable warmth. Overall a very stylish outer piece for the upper 40's low 50's temperatures, or a great layering piece underneath a wind stopping shell.

Big winner
January 03, 2007

Very nice and comfortable. Warm pockets, warm hood. Everyone likes the styling. All and all a great buy if you want to spoil yourself.

Great style
February 15, 2007

My husband finds this fleece to be flatteringly stylish...roomy but not overdone. It's extremely well-made,soft, and very light. His only concern is that it may not be warm enough, but with some type of undergarment, I'm sure it will be. It's perfect for most Florida winter weather.

Just like...
December 26, 2009

The Covert series is complete! Just like the cardigan and vest, the hoody is tops. Warm, good looking, easy to wash, stays like new. A FIVE!

Great Sweater
January 19, 2010

This hoody is beautifully made, soft and warm. Definitely comfortable and I like the fit of the hood and the finish on the hems and sleeves. Not quite as thick as I thought it might be from the pictures but the fabric has a nice texture to it. I'm 5'9" and an athletic 165lbs and this fits me perfectly. These are minor quibbles but I wish the zippers were more heavy duty. Also the sleeve pocket is useless, I would prefer a chest pocket. It's nice that the handwarmer pockets are zippered but I could do without the heavy taping. Lastly, why is this so expensive? LL Bean is not quite a stylish but cost about 1/3 of the price. I'll still give it 5 stars but honestly it deserves 4.5.

In fact, I have owned one this fleece jacket before I get this black one, So I know its advantages. As for me, it can provide me any function in this cold winter, warm and windproof. It looks so fashionable, moreover, its hood could protect my head in some condition, Most of all, it touch so soft and I like its materials.

A-1 Quality
November 15, 2010

I bought one of these for my teenage son, and he was really happy about the style and warmth. The only bad thing is that he's outgrown a medium and now needs a large - and my wife wants one too! It's expensive but worth the price.

Pros: Great design

no regrets what so ever
June 24, 2009

Great product! Comfortable, breathable, light, all the important features that a hiker cares most about. I worn it to Tibet recently, I was glad to I had with me in the morning and night.

January 19, 2010

a good layer however the hood is oversized and wind creeps thru easily as you ride!

Great Hoody
April 02, 2010

I have several Arc'teryx products and have always been very happy with the fit and quality. This is a great hoody. If you are familiar with the "Covert" line, it is the same great fleece fabric. The fit is a little fuller than most Arc'teryx items. It is not quite as fitted in the body. I'm about 5'11" and 175lbs and ended up with a Large. I usually wear a large in Arc'teryx items, but since this one fit bigger I also tried a Medium--it was too short in the body and arms.

what a great hoodie
November 18, 2008

work and play outside the year round and this hoodie is the cat's meow . talk about toastie this is one awesome layer. N.H. wind has got it's work cut for chillin this one.

This jacket rocks!
November 17, 2007

Typical Arc'teryx top quality. Nice and warm on cool days with excellent movement allowed and good water repellency. Excellent at 50-60 degrees plus.

Snugen

overall all year around jacket
December 15, 2009

I absolutely love this hoody. Keeps me warm and very lightweight. The zip pockets come in handy. The only thing is it isn't wind proof as wind blows through it with ease.

I love it
December 22, 2005

very expensive but very very nice. I love it and if anything ever happens to it, ill buy another one in a second.

pretty hip
May 09, 2006

Well made, casual looking, great for apres ski. Like other arcteryx this is a quality piece of clothing. I especially apreciate the zippers which are always smooth as silk.

Great insulating layer
November 23, 2008

Main points for me are, 1, The Polartec® Thermal Pro® Sweater Knit is very breathable and quick drying, 2, The scuba hood fits nice and snug, 3, Works great under hard shell. If you are looking for it to block the wind, look somewhere else, please don’t expect it to do something it’s not designed to do. One of my favorite insulating layers, quality is second to none, I love this insulating jacket.

A great product
January 01, 2007

I have to say that I love Arcteryx stuff, in my opinion its the best gear money can buy. It just seems like it will last forever. I am very glad I purchased the Arcteryx Covert Hoody. Its a great urban zip up, very comfortable. The hood lays just right, and never gets in the way. The pockets are in the perfect spot. All the zippers work nice and smooth. The only down side is, that it has no wind stopping ability. Even though it may cost a lot, its well worth it.

warm, but not great in the wind
July 27, 2009

I like this hoody as a warm sweater, but don't expect a lot of wind-resistance from it, as it was not made for this.

Very Good

The best Hoody I have ever bought!
August 08, 2009

This hoody is just as good as it looks. I've worn it during skiing it as a second layer under a shell, late summer during long walks in the evening and down town as a casual great looking sweater. It's the best, and I looks just like new even after several times in the washing machine!

December 04, 2010

Warm, comfortable, high quality. Carbide color is a little darker than the image shown. A stitch inside one of the cuffs has come loose after several months but doesnt seem to be getting worse. Dont expect it to hold up to wind. Right amount of space for layering underneath.

This is a cool item
August 14, 2007

The best outerwear deal going-feels like wool, acts like fleece. The style is just right for the field or a casual night out. Good fit to your true size.

Amazing product from Arcteryx!
November 23, 2007

Beautiful jacket, great material, total comfort and versatility. Works on its own from anywhere between 10C & -10C. I layer it under my Gamma MX Hoody for a perfect combo in colder weather. Very pill resistant, you can throw it in the wash without fear. The only downside is that it isn't very wind resistant, so if there's a strong breeze you might feel a bit of chill. Way more upside than down though, fersure. Great jacket!

Hubby's Favorite Hoody
November 10, 2009

Bought this for my Hubby and he loves it. He wears it all the time stating it is his favorite jacket. He takes it on every hike and backpack trip so far. He leaves it in his car just in case it's ever cold or for me when I forget a jacket. It's soft, comfortable, warm and light. I'm jealous. I think I have to get one for me.

fit's snug... so watch the beer intake

i use it for commuting to work. good ventilation, yet warm on cold foggy mornings and nights.

Comfortable and Sleek
June 09, 2012

This is one of the most functional yet fashionable hoodies in the market. You can both wear in town or country and still be looking good. Top quality touch and fabrics. It is pricey but definitely worth it.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Excellent!
November 26, 2008

Best hoody I have ever had. Super soft and comfortable. Warm for chilly wheather. Very attractive and functional. Mahogany is a great color. Expensive but worth it.

WOW
September 26, 2006

The covert cardigan hoody is amazing...very comfortable, typical Arcteryx quality...the hood falls perfect and the collar is non obtrusive. Another winner from BC

Top quality cozy fleece
November 25, 2007

This fleece is a great insulating layer, or perfect for lounging around on lazy sundays. The unique construction of the hoody makes the fleece look more like a woven sweater but with fleece feel and qualities. This hoody used with a shell will provide a comfortable outdoor experience. The fit of the cardigan is true to size. As with all arcteryx pieces the quality and attention to detail shines brightly.

Best Polartec I own
December 21, 2009

Living in the Berkshires on top of Beartown Mountain Road we get some icy cold winters. I have several Polartec fleece tops but this is by far the warmest and softest yet. The hood is great for zipping up close to your head when a wind blows up. I especially like the finishing touches such as the lay flat micro zippers and the finishing on the cuff by the wrists.

Nice Warm & fit is great
February 24, 2010

This is a fantastic jacket that provides extreme warmth for its weight. I purchased this jacket for those brisk morning days and even for the slopes. This jacket fits true to size, even a bit athletic. But I'm 5'11" and 220 and need the XXL for the sleeve length, but the body is still baggy. Overall, Great jacket

Awesome Arc'teryx
January 15, 2010

This hoody is fabulous-- got black and love its versatility. It's of course beautifully made. Arc'teryx prices are always a little frightening but I'm counting on it to be worth it in the long haul. It's cozy and feels luxurious.

Awesome quality like all other Arcteryx items ! Perfect companion on skiing trips ! The quality seems to be better than the North face comparable items.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value

great versatility

I can wear this jacket to work, come home and run in it. Put it in the wash and do the same next day!Wears well and pills seldom

Great light jacket
May 02, 2010

This Arc'teryx jacket is great-- it's warm but breathable, light and comfortable. I'm 5'10" and bought an extra large, and it fits fine. It's perfect for a cool spring or early fall day or a light hike.

Great Jacket
March 12, 2006

Great jacket. Nice athletic fit and looks good. Favorite all around fleece to run errands around town. No wind resistance, so if a cold wind is blowing it makes a great mid-layer for warmth. Very cold weather will require a warmer fleece unless I'm skiing or other very active activity.

Great design but cut a little larger than there usual tight fit
November 13, 2009

I love this hoody but the XL is larger given the nature of Arc'teryx other products thus leading me to buy the wrong size.

Soft and Cozy
February 01, 2010

I was surprised by how soft and cozy this garment is. I own many Arc'teryx tops, but this one is the softest by far. Use it mostly as a lounge piece or to roam the streets of NYC. Pairs well with a down vest on colder days. Yes, the breeze blows through it, but that's part of its charm. Will try it out as tech gear when I visit southern VT. I'm sure it will work well there too, as do all my Arc'teryx tops. Tends to be accurate on sizing--that is, there is no "size inflation." A medium is a old school medium, meant for people who weigh around 150-160 and hover close to the 6 foot range.

An Excellent Technical Sweater
April 17, 2009

This Arc'teryx Covert hoody is the best layering piece I own. I have it in two colors I liked it so much, and am considering a third! It is very soft, warm and stylish. It does not block the wind at all, but it doesn't claim to. Costs more than the competition but as with all other Arc'teryx gear I own it is worth the cost adder! Highly recommended.

VERy nice!!
August 20, 2006

As usual arcteryx exceeds the standards with this product. Is it expensive? HECK YEAH IT IS! Is it worth it? well, i'm not really sure any hoody is worth that much but it is an incredible piece that is extremely soft and warm. you will obvioiusly need to layer under a windproof shell or outer layer but you can't beat it for insulation (except for the Maverick AR, which is by far my favorite article of clothing). the fit is right on...it fits close and athletic. I definately recommend this to anyone with the funds and the love for arcteryx.
