Men's Fission AR Jacket 4.9 5 47 47
Great Product By far the best Jacket in the market for cold weather. Its a great fit, looks good, keeps you warm with a simple tee shirt underneath. Plenty of good quality pockets, with waterproof zips. It doesn't matter how I treat it, the next morning, it simply looks good. This is exactly what makes Arc'teryx different from others. November 18, 2011
Great All Around Jacket fits well. Cannot really say as to warmth as we have not had cold weather yet, however, Thinsulate insulation is probably same as had in previous ArcTeryx jacket and was just right. Fit is good, however, collar is somewhat high. I guess this is due to having a hood that would cover a helmet. would recommend this jacket. September 11, 2011
Perfect Jacket for a Bigger Guy Being a bigger guy around 230, I wanted a windproof, waterproof and lightweight jacket with a longer cut as well as room for a possible under layer if need be. The XL is just perfect for this! I also made the pick for the stow away hood which comes in handy when out skiing on days it isnt snowing. A coolness factor about the insulation (prima loft sport) is that it is waterproof and retains its ability to trap heat after being wet. My favorite jacket! August 5, 2011
A teriffic jacket...but I bought this Fission AR because I have a Fission SV and love it, but wanted the lighter version with the hide-away hood. Well, I got what I wanted- mostly: The xl AR jacket weighs 896g compared to the xl SV jacket at 1100g and the hood does hide in the collar. When the hood is zipped into the collar though, it makes the collar stiff and bulky and it won't lay flat, nor can you move it away from its position against your face. The remedy is to keep the hood OUT of the collar and then it feels OK. Otherwise it is every bit the jacket that the SV is, less about 200g and less $100... it is just as warm, just as waterproof and just as comfortable. BTW, I usually get black but I could not in this case and bought the "Dusk" color, which in this case is a beautiful and subtle dark blue. I like it better than black. I'm not going to complain about the high cost of these items--- they ARE pricy and they may not perform better than lesser priced competitors, but they last longer and the higher quality workmanship and materials are totally obvious. Just what I wanted I have several very warm, very heavy Gore Tex jackets/parkas. I have been looking for something Gore Tex but lighter with some kind of lining. The Fission AR is exactly what I wanted. The jacket is perfect for 20-50 F. Fit is very accurate. I'm 5" 11" and 165#. Large fits great and I can easily put a fleece under the AR if I want more warmth (for extended times below 30F). I wish it had two more zippered pockets but the interior mesh pockets are very handy. Great jacket for all around use I bought this jacket about 3 weeks ago and have been completely satisfied. I live in the city of chicago and am frequently walking around from place to place; this jacket has done a good job keeping me warm and comfortable when in between outdoors, car and indoors (throughout the month of January). I have a fairly long torso (am 5'11 with short legs) and the jacket's back bottom comes about mid-way down the seat of my pants. The front is a bit shorter as it’s fitted this way. On the top, when the jacket if fully zipped it rests just below my nose if I tuck my chin down (just about to my lips when my chin is in normal position). The back top of the jacket covers my neck completely. The jacket is very stylish and looks good on. It is also very comfortable to wear and packs into an unbelievable tight space if you're going to be tightly packing it for a trip. My only suggestion would be to incorporate more pockets. It has two “inter spots” to store things (one on each side where the zipper comes together in front bottom) and two normal hand pockets in front bottom where the zipper comes together. If it had a sleeve pocket or an inter breast pocket this jacket would have it all. In all, even without the extra pockets this jacket is still great for everyday winter wear if you want something that is pretty warm given its weight, comfort and style. January 29, 2011
The best winter jacket I've ever owned This is the best heavy winter jacket I have ever owned. The quality lives up to most Arc'Teryx products while at the same time providing unsurpassed warmth against the most harsh conditions. I have used this jacket on a number of high altitude treks and it has kept me warm when it gets below zero. The fit is snug, not tight but just right. And the fabric can take abrasions very well. While expensive you get what you pay for. January 18, 2011
Super Warm!!! This jacket was tested in the streets of NYC over the NYE week, and it was soooo warm I could only wear a t shirt underneath it! When I wore a hoodie under it, I had to leave it unzipped as it was too hot in 30 degree weather. I was pretty active too, so if sedentary, it may have been different. Overall, this jacket is stupid warm. Only drawback is the lack of a third pocket, the only ones are for the hands. January 5, 2011
Out in the cold I am an Arcteryx devotee, and own 4 jackets and multiple articles of clothing. Unfortunately this jacket is not up to snuff. I was looking for something that could handle Minneapolis winters, the single digit stuff. This jacket is not that. Like all Arcteryx it is well made, and I am sure durable. But with normal clothes on underneath, unless you are doing something very active, don't expect to feel warm if it is below 25 degrees out. This is NOT a winter jacket. This will be my first Arcteryx return ever. December 12, 2010
Awesome insulated jacket! I won't fear the cold weather since I got it. I believe it can keep my warmth in such cold winter. It can prevent me from chilly wind and snow due to its GoreTex materials. Moreover,it 's so comfy and looks cool, Wherever I am, outdoor or urban place, I believe it 's useful and suitable. December 8, 2010
The best insulated jacket This insulated Jacket was the best jacket I ever bought. It is very warm , the weight and thickness are balanced well. It's price is also very reasonable. November 28, 2010
the best winter jacket the perfect winter jacket, because it combines gore-tex and primaloft, therefore it is waterproof, windproof and provides the incredible warmth. November 13, 2010
Thanks to GoreTex Pro shell and primaloft sport, I don't fear this cold winter, It can prevent me from wind and snow in such cold weather, at the same time, it 's so breathable, it 's very suitable for hiking in winter. I love it. November 9, 2010
Great Jarket for winter sports! I bought this jacket but not wearing now because of hot weather. i tried to put it on at my house. it makes me very warm, i mean hot. This one is designed for wear in so cool climates. In so cool condition , Highly recommended and i hope new product for the people who want to get it. May 3, 2010
great jacket I bought this jacket for every day mountain (Himalayas, cold and dry, wet and windy!), at home use (usually not so wet here but windy and cold at times), and for belay. March 21, 2010
Test drive it with Porsche, 100miles!! I tested this jacket out while driving my Turbo Porsche on a race track. temp of 38 degrees. I was driving 100 miles on the track with top down. After 20 min into driving, I had a huge smile on my face and realized that I love this jacket more than my new Turbo. This bombshell, high collared jacket blocks all the wind and keep me super warm. The only cold air I felt was my cheeks (wearing a beanie). Highly recommended! February 1, 2010
Very light yet warm ski jacket This jacket is surprisingly light while feeling warm and snug with a comfortable fit. The medium fit perfectly (6' 155lbs) even with an arcteryx atom LT mid layer as well as a base layer. I liked that the pro shell didn't seem stiff at all. Also, I liked the way the hood fit over my helmet. The only drawback for me is the length. It is slightly shorter than the Sentry which is basically the same jacket a few inches longer for an extra $100. January 25, 2010
great job! very light weight, good design, best gore tex, even like collar. I made a good decision. January 17, 2010
Another Awesome Jacket from Arc'teryx I like the high collar of this jacket. The construction of the jacket is just perfect. I live in SF and the weather can be cold, wet and windy. It is superwarm, light, and sharp looking. I am 6', 180 Lbs, A size, large is perfect. Life is too short, treat yourself well!. Go for this jacket. January 15, 2010
Extremely Pleased This is my first Arc'teryx purchase and I now believe. This jacket does exactly what it is supposed to do while looking good in the process. I am 5'10" and 200 lbs and bought a large. The fit is good, not too long and it fits close to the body. Quality abounds with this jacket from h2o proof zippers to beautiful blending of seems. This jacket is worth the money and I am already looking for my next Arc'teryx to purchase. January 15, 2010
Best Yet! This is by far the best winter jacket I've owned. I've been an avid skier for a while and this is the best you'll find. It's extremely lightweight for the amount of warmth it provides. As always, the gore-tex is amazing and totally worth it. Jacket looks great too. I bought a medium and I'm 5'10" 165, jacket fits perfect. Enough room for layers and sleeves aren't too long. I do everything in this jacket. It makes me able to stay out longer and want to go outside when the temperature drops. Great jacket and amazing quality. January 13, 2010
Excellent jacket The quality is evident when you first put it on. The warmth to weight ratio is amazing. I light baselayer would be more than ample in cold/wet weather. January 12, 2010
Nice Jacket! I bought this jacket in a size L. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs. and it fits just perfectly. We are in Vancouver Canada, and so it can get chilly and very damp (much like Seattle). It's plenty warm enough for the coldest winters here, and the Gore-tex means I'll stay dry. It's not stiff and crunchy at all like others we looked at for less money. I'm not sure that this jacket would be long enough on a 6' plus man, since it is just the right length on me. The hood is better out of the collar because it does stand up too stiff and high for my taste when tucked into the collar. Not an issue for me if the hood hangs out. December 28, 2009
Great jacket for the northwest I have a few Arcteryx jackets but this one is all around favorite, warm, totally waterproof and rugged the gor-tex material will not tear easily like other nice cold weather brand jackets also I like the light weight feel not bulky at all December 12, 2009
Very nice jacket, very recommendable Great jacket! I am not your average outdoor person, in fact I don't hike or ski much. I bought the jacket for driving in my 911 Cabrio with the top down on cold days and for that purpose the jacket is also very good. April 20, 2008
Wonderful Jacket When you don't need the extra warmth of the Fission SV this is the jacket to have. I have both and the Fission AR will handle the weather between zero and 30 F. If active even lower. April 6, 2008
This is an exceptional Jacket. Let me state up front, I didn't purchase this jacket for any outdoor sports activities, just simply as a winter jacket for commuting to and from work and going into town. I initially balked at the price, but was tired of the poorly tailored, made in China stuff. So I plunged. Absolutely no regrets. Perfect fit - fantastic tailoring, impeccable workmanship and first rate materials. As others have noted - weight to warmth ratio is unbelievable. I would have found a pocket on the inside of the jacket very useful, nonetheless, this jacket has my highest recommendation - don't hesitate. January 26, 2008
Excellent Jacket!! This Jacket is awesome. The weight to warmth ratio is incredible. It's it pretty lightweight yet it keeps me warmer than my 700 fill down jacket. The gore-tex material is an added bonus. Kept me warm and dry while I was on the slopes this winter. I was actually sweating while skiing with this on. I have no need to bundle heavy under this jacket. January 2, 2008
Best Jacket Ever The Arcteryx Fission AR is protective, light weight and fits as if it were built custom for me. Altrec always carries the best Arcteryx Jackets featuring Gore-Tex. I always receive prompt shipping and great service from Altrec. I always buy here and recommend Altrec to my friends. November 2, 2007
Superb Very warm for the weight, excellent fit. Superb Arc'Teryx quality as always. September 8, 2007
excellent jacket Outstanding fit, great-looking jacket. The only real knock on this thing is the hood in the collar, but if you don't want it get the Fission LT hoody or the Fission SV. The collar is barely noticeable, whoever thought it felt like a cast must have a huge neck. Think of it as the small price you pay to have the convenience of a hood without it looking goofy, flapping around on the slopes or otherwise getting in your way. I also own the Cloudveil Zero-G (a similar jacket w/o the hood) and while it's nice jacket, it's not quite as finished and dialed in as the design of the Arc, which feels like it was custom fit for me. The Arc is amazingly light (about 1 lb.) and compresses down if you need to pack it, but it's plenty warm down to zero and below. As with most Arc, the cut is shorter than many jackets, if you like your jacket to totally cover your belt you might not like it (although it is slightly longer in the back for coverage). If you want a slightly heavier and probably more durable, longer, more casual jacket get the Cloudveil, for superlight warmth, versatility and incredible fit get the Arc. April 29, 2007
Excellent jacket!! I like it very much. I think the Fission AR Jacket is the Best of Best. Excellent jacket!! January 23, 2007
very nice!! looks good,very light,warm jacket!! January 4, 2007
Needs Inside Pocket This is a great jacket, but it would be a bit more functional with an inside pocket, but overall cain't wait to put it on! November 9, 2006
i like it! Excellent jacket!! it helps greatly when climbing & more cheaper than in my country. I like it very much. August 4, 2006
Very impressive for a great winter jacket. Arc'Teryx Fission AR jacket is very well constructed and excellent design of warmth and waterproof protection without feeling the bulky of wearing it. The jacket is very light in weight and would be even better if it has an inside pocket. March 27, 2006
Impressed with it so far. I got this jacket on sale and it was well worth it. Excellent construction. Someone mentioned the hood gets in the way - if I tilt my head backward I can feel it press against my neck and base of my skull a bit, but I don't think it actually restricts movement. Some people may find it uncomfortable but it doesn't bother me. Considering the price, this may be an annoying oversight on the part of Arc'teryx. I'm usually scouring the bargain bin for clothes so I'm new to "high performance" or "technical" clothing. What really impressed me about this jacket is its extreme light weight and ease of movement. One thing I didn't like is the Gore Tex is very noisy when you're walking and your arms rub against your body. For its weight is extremely warm. I think it's very versatile as far as temperatures go. I wore it out in -15'C weather and was comfortable - not too cool and not too warm. If it dips to -25'C or below you may want to consider some extra insulation. I'm 6'0" and 170 lbs. I usually fit between a Large and an Extra Large depending on the manufacturer. I bought an XL and there's room to spare. I can wear some extra insulation under it if it gets really cold out. The sleeves and jacket are just the right length. If you have problems with sleeves being too short or are between sizes, go the next size up. March 1, 2006
all around warmth Great coat for cold weather and wet weather. Is hip length so is great for around town. I am 6'1'' and 190# the xlarge fits great. If I was taller it may me a little short. December 27, 2005
Top Quality Arcteryx Fission AR Jackets is mostly very high prices considering almost same uses jacket of other brands. H/ever it's unique design and very detailed and elaborate finishing considering almost every harsh environment of winter mountains did make me buy this Fission AR Jacket without any hesitation. I can recommand this Fission AR jacket as the last and ultimate hardshell jacket for winter period mountaineering. December 27, 2005
Not impressed! I like it however I must confess I love arcteryx stuff, however, I dont like the hood on this. If they made it w/o a hood or removeable hood, i would drop my money on it! The hood limits neck movement and it feels like you have a cast on your neck. You can't move your neck back all that much! Believe me, I am a avid hiker and skier. It looks cool but it needs to serve function as well. My suggestion you ask? Try the Cloudveil Zero-G jacket or the democratically priced Marmot TR6. These last two jackets you can save your money and buy your damsel a latte at the end of the powder day and that looks cool! December 2, 2005
Great gear. This is really Great gear. September 5, 2005
It is cool!!!!!!!!!!! It is cool!!!!!!!!!!! August 1, 2005
Perfect for Outdoor Men's Fission AR Jacket is great gear for outdoor. This is really great jacket. Thank you very much. June 24, 2005
great jacket This jacket has the best combination of warmth and waterproof protection without the bulk. May 12, 2005
Awesome cold/wet weather jacket Excellent jacket for when you know it is going to be cold AND wet. Makes packing easy, one peice of gear does it all. Waterproof and warmer than when I layer a fleece under a shell. Not stuffy at all, Primaloft is great. I've worn it many times all day in cool, wet Oregon weather. April 4, 2005
Great jacket for cold weather I bought this jacket to use it while climbing or alpine touring in cold weather (not Himalaya, anyway!!!), and i'm glad to say that it is very warm, whitout being too bulky. I think that the only thing missing is an interior pocket. March 16, 2005
Arc'Teryx Fission AR Great winter jacket! Very well constucted. Definitely worth the premium price. The jacket would be even better if they addressed the following: Lacks an inside pocket and when the hood is tucked inside the collar, the collar slighlty pushes the back of the neck forward.
