Comfort and Sizing
January 13, 2011
This review only covers comfort and sizing for the Men's Gamma LT Pant ('09). The pants just arrived and I have not tried them outdoors yet, therefore cannot comment on warmth and durability. I am 6'0" and 185 lbs; the Large fit fine in the legs (like relaxed fit jeans), but the waist was a bit big. To keep them from sliding down while wearing a pack I would have to tighten the included web belt such that the waist band has a kink in it, which probably will not be very comfortable. Also, the butt section seems a little baggy. The inseam in Regular is just the right length. I will order the Medium size to compare the fit and decide which one to keep. Expensive pants. Hope they are warm enough as a layer under gortex pants while snowboarding, as well as cool enough for higher altitude summer hiking in California.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: CostWrite a review for the Arc'teryx Gamma LT Pant here.
Great Hiking Wind Pant
September 19, 2003
I would have given these pants five stars, but the thing holding that back is the DWR coating. When I first got these pants there water shedding ability was amazing. After about five washes, it has lost some of its water shedding abilitys. They are very comfortable, and they fit perfectly. Also they are great in the wind, but breathe extremly well. I highly recomend these pants, just don't wash them as often.
Excellent light soft shell; dismiss the hype

I had a pair of these that were 12 years old when I handed them down to a youngster and he's still climbing in them. Admittedly these are not going to hold up if you are scraping around on JT granite but for general mountain use they hold up suprisingly well. Just a word about the retail myth of "water repellancy" in these and other soft shell pants #not waterproof breathable laminates#. Woven nylon fabric ArcTeryx or otherwise, absorbs water VERY efficiently and that quality is hardly mitigated much less overcome by sprayed-on waterproofing. If we're talking about a small enough amount of H2O so as to not matter anyway, #light mist, drops from your Camelbak hose, salesperson demonstration# then yes it will bead up provided you have not been thrashing around enough to wear off the "Durable Water Repellancy." Softshells without a laminate have no inherent water resistance. The opposite is true. Fit: these are slimmer than the Gamma MX. I went up one size to a large. I am 5'11" 185 with a 32" waist. Weight: these are light enough to use all-around i.e., run, lift, climb, snowshoe with the same pants.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueSuper High quality...as always

Arc'teryx super quality, always the best material, best fitting, best looking product one can buy.
Good buy

Overall a great pant. The only downside is the back pocket is under my hip belt and they dont shed water indefinitely. So far they have replaced my convertible pack pants b/c they breathe so well.
Great hiking pant

These are great pants for hiking. They are tough and breathable. They truly are a four season pant.
Great pants but room for improvement
April 02, 2012
The Arcteryx Gama pants have a nice slim fit and great feel. Water just runs of the pants and they are nice and cool while hiking. The pants would be better if they had a back pocket (or two) and Velcro side adjustment straps to allow for better adjustment at the waste.
Pros: Great design, Performance, great feel, Cons: Cost, more adjustments for the waste and rear pocketsAlready own the Arc'teryx Gamma LT Pant? Tell us your thoughts.
A wonderful softshell pant for the high mountains
January 14, 2011
I bought these pants mainly for hiking and climbing up mountains in the snow and windy cold because I wanted something that could protect me from the wind, but also breath really well when I sweating up a storm in 20-30 degree weather while going up the mountain! By far these pants have gone above and beyond in doing that...they are absolutely amazing! They have a slight trim fit to them, but you can still put a base layer underneath them for the extra warmth you need in the mountains! As for the DWR, that wears out of every item on the market which is way we Nikwax who sells a tec wash to clean your pants without taking the DWR off as fast, and they sell DWR that you spray on your garment after you have washed. Very easy and it keeps your pants going! Highly recommend to all!!!

Best pants ever.

Arc'teryx is the company all other companies are chasing. Their products are by far the most durable, comfortable, and useful. I bought these pants for climbing, but wear them everywhere. Feels like nothing on.
just what I was looking for

These were an x-mas present to myself and I've been using them for the past week for my seven-mile bike commute in eastern Massachusetts. They have been very comfortable in temps ranging from about 30 to the mid 40's. At 30 degrees, without any other layer, they start out feeling a little cool but after a little vigorous pedaling my legs feel just right. I would imagine they will be fine by themselves down to the mid 20's. Below that I'd probably want to wear some long underwear too. They do a nice job of cutting the wind I've encountered, which has been gusts to about 30 mph. Riding in a light rain was no problem either--the rain drops just beaded up. At 6'2' and 145 lbs I got a very good fit with the tall medium, with no gap at the ankle for cold air to enter. (My jean size is usually 30x34.) Really I am very glad I spent the money on these. They are very thoughtfully designed and well made and I expect I'll get a lot of good use out of them for biking and hiking in all seasons.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performanceless bells and whistles

x-country skiing, hiking and biking in the Catskill Mts. of upstate NY I love capilene, softshell, and windbloc fleece...but, I've held off on purchasing Arc'teryx gear due to the hefty price tag. When the gamma lites went on sale I took my shot. The fabric is lightweight and flexible and they're certainly serviceable for hiking or x-country skiing in moderate conditions etc. however, the OR Exos, REI mistrals and Koch cross country pants I own blow the gamma lites away in functionality and features for less $$ even w the gamma lites on sale...
Nice pants!

The built quality is just fantastic, very comfortable and true to size. Very slim looking, I am in love.
perfect for hiking & biking
June 17, 2011
I have had these durable pants for almost a year and they are perfect for hiking and mountain biking when the temperature is moderate to very warm. Light rain is no problem. They have a drawstring at the bottom of the inseam I can tighten when I go biking and a zipped side pocket for a phone. I am 6', 160 lbs. and the medium fits perfectly even with cycling pads underneath. They machine wash and dry easily and look the same as when I got them.

I wish every pant in my wardrobe was like this!

I have the Arc'teryx Switcback which is the cut down version of these pants and its only one ounce lighter. I would rate this pants the best pants in the world! They look stylish for street wear, but its really their technical stuff that sets them apart from any other pants. They are very water resistant, breathe amazingly well and are really really durable. When I fell on my knee while boulder hopping, I thought my skin was a goner and so was the pants. To my surprise the pants only got white from the "chalk" and have also withstood several butt slides without tearing. They are also very comfortable in a wide range of temps and I will try skiing with them soon since they are great for snow and are pretty much windproof. The switchbacks are paper thin and did all of the above like a champ. I'm sure the Gamma LT's will do better since they are heavier than my Switchbacks and when it comes time to buy another do all, all-around pants I will look for another Switchback or Gamma LT.
great pants

Wanted to get 2 of them but there was only one M size left (now they're back again). Super comfortable, light weight, just a bit long for me, which I believe is because my legs are short. This is nothing wrong about Arc'teryx, but if they provide regular, short, long options like patagonia does, it would be perfect for me. There's enough protection in little shower, haven't tested in heavy rain but I wont' expect too much for water proof, after all they're not designed for it. May get another pair later, love them so much.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Costgreat

The Gamma LT delivers on all fronts; much softer all-around, more relaxed fit, a zip fly
Love Pants
April 05, 2010
My wife commented "enough pockets"?(normally I have to wear a jacket just to tote keys, wallet, change, whatever)so aside from looking and feeling great the pants are practical.

Very light and stretchy.
Wonderful product by Arcteryx
November 17, 2010
I received these pants last week and I couldn't be happier. I am not a small guy, 6'2" and 240 lbs, but I would say the XL fits me just right. As can be seen in the picture, they are somewhat trim fitting, but they also have very large amount of tretch in the fabric. They are super comfortable and stylish, as referenced by other reviewers. I am very excited to wear these out for some winter hikes and break them in. As far as value goes, everyone knows that Arcteryx isn't the cheapest brand out there, but their quality is second to none.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueQuality &style

Love these pants and I am about to get a second pair. Plenty of pockets, very comfortable and very stylish. Well done Arc'teryx again.
Great pant
June 14, 2011
these are a great pair of soft shell pants they are alittle pricy but really nice. i thaught they would be alittle thicker then they are but for the trail on a warmer day these are perfect. they are very water repellent. Overall great pant.
Very Good choice
February 16, 2011
I bought this item for my friend. My friend is same as me:5'9'', 180lbs, we chose L, black for him. He liked it very much, it fit very well. He usually do hiking 1-2 times every week. This is for him to use in mountain at spring. It's feel soft and very light. Also the DWR has some function to anti repell water. Not so strong like Gore TEx but enough for him to use in Mountain. Also it's very easy to clean. I will like to recommend to other friends.
nice, lightweight

Everyone was right, great pants!
December 16, 2011
As I've read review on different softshell pants, I noticed the Gamma lt pant was always at the top of everyone's list. Well after using them for a few months I'm happy to report that everone was right, I love these pants. The design is very simple; 2 front zip pockets and one on the side, drawstrings at the bottom to adjust fit, and that's about it. But the best part for me is the fabric. It is called Fortius and I love the feel. It is very stretchy and breathable and the finish of the material almost has a waxy type finish which add to the look and comfort of the pant. The stitching is very clean and just about every seam has been double stitched for durability. I would guess the gamma lt pants block about 70% of the wind and are water resistant. I hope in years to come Arcteryx makes some other colors of this pant like maybe a deep dusk or a navy blue. I'm gonna start saving up cause I want another pair
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: CostWill not lose water shedding abilities if properly washed...

The best pants for hiking, climbing and spring skiing. Lightweight and stylish. Too bad thet are now made in China... As for all high quality softshell, they will not lose water shedding abilities if properly washed. Use Nikwax Tech Wash for cleaning and Nikwax Softshell Wash for maintaining waterproofing and breathability.
great pants
