Description

Like all heroes of myth and mystery, the Men's Arc'teryx Hyllus Jacket delivers powerful protection and supernatural strength behind a streamlined, stoic fa├žade. Incredible high-loft insulation coexists with superb breathability for complete comfort on big mountain pursuits or urban engagements.

Featuring Polartec® Power Shield® O2 High Loft fabric, this soft shell jacket has a smooth nylon face that sheds snow and light precip with a plush shag fleece interior for chill-fighting insulation. This Arc'teryx jacket makes a great mid-layer for storm days on the mountain when you layer it under a waterproof shell, but the clean lines and sleek styling will serve you equally well in town as you recount epic turns at altitude. The interior fleece keeps you warm and comfortable when temperatures are low and it's highly breathable to keep you dry during climbs, hikes or while enjoying a few laps on sun-drenched spring corn. Designed for maximum range of motion and pill-free durability, the Arc'teryx Hyllus Jacket for men delivers powerful performance whenever and however you demand it. Hyllus, legendary warrior and son of Hercules, would approve.

Versatile performer
November 07, 2011

Great athletic fit, I am large in the shoulder 50-L with a large neck and thinner around the midsection with 40-42 waist and Arc'teryx XXL fits. Good comforatable fit with sufficient warmth for fall or as a mid-layer. Not a shell, but an everyday jacket with some wind and water features. Windproof and warm without full water protection; it is water resistent. I got the Polartec past season so I can't comment on their new fabric. I am a big style off their styling, and overall functional layout. I like the versatility of the Hyllus, as a jacket and great mid-layer with my shell.

Very Nice Jacket
January 16, 2011

Sizing: The jacket is true to size. I'm 5'8" and 175 lbs and needed a medium, but I normally wear a large with the other Arc'teryx "athletic fit" sizes. The Hyllus is a "relaxed fit" jacket. Warmth: Relative to other jackets of the same ilk, it does provide additional warmth. I like the interior long shag fleece. Water resistance: I have not taken this out in weather yet, but the material looks like it would do a good job with light rain. Appearance: I really like the color and the styling.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Arc'Teryx Jacket for Regular Weather
July 09, 2011

A fantastic jacket with an athletic fit. It is not snug, per se, but it is definitely built for those larger in the shoulder than the midsection. It is very comfortable, and warm. However, this jacket was not built to fit the role of a shell. It will block some wind, but not everything. It will repel some water, but not everything. I use it for cold days with relatively mild wind/precipitation. It also suits as a fantastic layering piece with a sweatshirt or something underneath it. Arc'teryx is an expensive Canadian brand, but the quality is always exceptional. Just be sure to understand the piece you are buying. This is a great jacket, but clearly cannot fulfill the role of one of their shells.

Better Than the Rest!
February 21, 2011

Nothing comes close to this brand. I currently own 3 Arcteryx jackets and several brands, and I can honestly say nothing holds a candle to this line. The Hyllus sure is a fine piece of high-tech fabric both with style and panache! I wore this in the rain and in a hot classroom for 2 hours and never once felt either warm or uncomfortable. I typically wear a sleeve length of 35", and this puppy is more than adequately long in the sleeves. The fleece lining is soft, supple, and my cat loves sleeping on it.

great for travel
October 29, 2012

I bought this for my husband for a November trip to Greece & Turkey, he's also worn it on an October Sierra Nevada trip, and it performs perfectly. It is heavy enough for normal/cool weather (50's) and drizzling rain, and can be layered with a fleece or raincoat for colder, windier, or wetter days. The fit is athletic/slim and it is stylish enough to wander Europe without standing-out as a sloppy American.

This is my 3rd Arc'teryx jacket and needless to say I'm hooked. Excellent quality, durability and fit. Their athletic fit makes the jacket functional on all levels. The look is great with for a night out or your outdoor activity. I know the pricepoint is rather high compared to the competitors but the quality and thought that they've put into the design are really worth it.

Wow...
February 21, 2012

Wore this during a snow fall while doing some light climbing and hiking. I have one word to describe this jacket: AMAZING. Not only does it do everything it's been touted to do, but it goes beyond. This jacket sheds moisture like water off a duck's back, mobility allowed is second to none, heat regulation is on point and wind resistance may as well be wind proof. Seriously worth every penny I paid for it. So warm and yet so light, fantastic! I'm 6'0", 185 lbs, 34/35 sleeve, athletic build (broad up top, small waist); I got a large and it fit perfectly.

January 14, 2013

I'm 5'11" and 185Lb 41" chest and 33" waist and I went with Large because I want to have some room for Arc'teryx LEAF Naga Hoody. It fit and look very goon on me. I could go with Medium too but it wold fit too perfect. For Large the arm length was a little long but I like it long and have no problem with it. If you like perfect fit and always have the outer shell on i would recommend medium. But if you in the city and don't really have to put on the outer shell than Large. The jacket is very worm I can push this jacket to 30c no problem. The material is very high quality. It took me about 3 weeks before I can decide what size should I go with, what style, color and where to buy. I'm very happy with this jacket and it's worth every penny. And next I'm going for Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket.

Arc'teryx Hyllus is amazing !!
December 25, 2011

This is my first Arc'teryx jacket and all I can say is ... WOW!! I have a few friends who recommended this brand and I was a bit apprehensive of the price but after wearing it around the city and a few hikes in the woods (at 35-deg F) it was well worth the cost. It is a form fitting jacket which hugs the body but extremely comfortable and unrestricted. I am 5'9" at 180lbs with athletic build and a large was snug yet perfect even with several light layers. The internal high loft is amazing and the exterior shell is extremely durable and water repellent (after a 3hr hike with unexpected constant light rain). I can't explain how the new Polartec O2 material works, but can vouch that it does its job well. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone and look forward to expanding my Arc'teryx collection.

Pretty good jacket overall, great layer
January 03, 2012

This jacket is typical Arc quality, great fit and fuzzy hi loft interior. It fit great under my theta shell, but as an outer layer it was just so so. I think it would work alright in a pinch, but it's breath ability as a layer makes it less useful on its own. Even the zippers are constructed with less protection, lending to its use as a heavy mid. Yikes can't saybenough good things about the fit and fuzz... Just not versatile enough for what I needed. I we t with a Firee instead, to replace an old R4.

Love this Hoody!
December 18, 2012

Just received my Hyllus last week. I love it. At first I was skeptical about the money, but it's the real deal. Very light, durable, and water resistance. I had some rain come down on me and it just beaded right off. Would go great with any of the technical shells for real winter use. Stand alone its good with a T-shirt under it till about 40 F. Then you may start to get chilly. Overall very happy. The loft is soft, warm, and very light. If your thinking about it, dont... Just buy it!

Good looking jacket that performs to all expectations. The lining is very soft and warm, and the soft shell provides full range of motion while climbing.Typically I wear a large, but the medium fits perfectly.I am 5'11" and 175lbs. January 18, 2011

Truly agree with all other reviews. Jacket wears and washes well. Medium is perfect for my 5-9, 155 lbs. frame I got the dusk color. I would love the orange one as well. I really like the stitching and overall attention to detail. I wear it almost daily since a month ago with a thin merino wool baselayer over a t-shirt in temps down to 15, and it's plenty warm. It sheds rain and snow and dries fast. I had it in the washer and dryer once already with no shrinkage. Great buy! Don't hesitate!

Arcteryx Hyllus Jacket
December 29, 2010

Like most everything from Arcteryx, this Hyllus Jacket does exactly what it's supposed to do. In my business I work in all weather conditions without exception, I can't afford to have a piece of gear that doesn't work. Arcteryx always performs as advertised you can count on that. If you think a professional is expensive, wait until you see how much an amateur will cost.

Mean MO-FOE!!!
January 11, 2010

I am currently in A-Stan and this jacket works GREAT!!! It gets kinda of chilly here and the Jacket works!! My line of work requires we to wear body armor. This jacket is well fitted to me. I am 5'8 165 and the med is perfect!! It wears really well with my body armor over it. No bulky feeling (no Christmas Story fit). Still have a good range of motion with the jacket on. The only thing that takes away the range of motion is the body armor!!! It holds body heat good. The other night I washed it and put it on still damp. Then went walking around to see how it would feel. To my surpise I was warming up. The Temp was about 40 degrees out. So not to bad. Also Altrec.com has the best price. So don't bother checking Moose Jaw or Back Country. I spent about 3 days looking for the best price. And shipping was pretty fast I got this jacket ordered during the holiday rush and received about 8 days later here in A-Stan. I also ordered a Stingray we will see how that works out. So get off the porch and get yourself a Hercules!

Toasty
December 14, 2010

This jacket is super toasty and perfect for SoCal California winter nights. It gets down to 42-50 here and this jacket has been perfect. It fits best with a thin layer underneath but can fit with a thicker base layer too. The jacket draws a lot of compliments. Other people love the way it looks. I really love the jacket, but not 100% confident that it's worth practically coughing up an organ for it (which I did because I'm a gear junkie). Now my wife wants one too, ouch...

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

the man loves the jacket
January 24, 2010

I purchased this as a birthday present, not sure exactly when it might come in handy. Since then, my boyfriend has worn it running, through a (very cold) marathon, and plans to take it along on a snowboarding trip. It is a great quality jacket, good construction. It does warm up quickly if you are doing strenuous activity. The cactus green color is nice. He is about 185 lbs and he likes the roomy fit of the large, although I think a medium would have worked too since it doesn't seem that you need to consider layering heavily under it.

Perfect
December 19, 2009

Was a bit skeptical of the reviews but they're right on: this jacket is just about perfect. Form fitting without being too tight, great breathe-ability, even the "cactus green" is good looking (in person, not in the picture). I'm 6'5", 195 lbs, and the Large fits me well (have to cinch in the waist a bit).

Quality Jacket
February 17, 2011

I was wearing this jacket almost everyday traveling around Europe in the winter - with only a t-shirt underneath I was good down to about 10C but had to layer if it got colder. Keep in mind I'm from Australia and hadn't experienced places much colder than that before. The jacket has proven very durable and looks good. One thing I noticed when washing the jacket, it takes a while to dry (especially at the tip of the sleeves) due to the windproof layer trapping water. It does breath and will eventually dry.

Too good to be real
January 20, 2010

My first impression as soon as I opened the package containing this jacket was that this jacket was so overpriced and it was going back for a refund. This jacket looks really thin and the first time you wear the jacket, it feels like the insulation is not strong enough too protect you from even a windy day. Anyway I decided to give it a try in one of those winter cold days in between 25-30 degrees (at my own risk after reading the other reviews) only wearing a turtleneck inside the hercules. I was shock and surprised how good this jacket is in these cold temperatures, very good resistance to strong cold wind. Very good keeping your body heat, you feel warm while performing activities outside or even just walking. I remember I read somewhere that this jacket was bulky?....not at all, at least not for me,I don't have muscles so developed, but my body has an atlethic shape and this jacket make me looks good. I didn't have the chance to try this hercules on the rain but all take the word of the other customers and their reviews. This jacket is too good to be real, but it is that good and beyond.

great jacket
November 30, 2010

my main use for this jacket has been to keep me warm when fly fishing. i'm 6'0 - 210 lbs and the large fits me very well. i don't have abbs of steel, but i don't have a big ol belly either. the last time i wore it, it was about 34 degrees with just a little drizzle. wore only a tshirt underneath and it kept me warm even though i was pretty much just standing still. and my hands were wet. started raining a little later and i was worried i was going to have to hurry back to my tent to grab my shell - not the case, the rain just beaded right off. the cuffs are just loose enough for my big hands and wrist to fit, but i have to stretch them out a little to get my watch though - not a problem. mine was called the hercules jacket when i bought it. i know they changed the name but i'm not sure what else, if anything, was changed. also, mine was made in china, which i wasn't thrilled about when it came in the mail, but it's made just as well as my beta ar and beta sl - which were both made in canada. this really is an amazing coat and i would recommend it to anyone is is actually going to go outside and use it.

My Favorite Warm Jacket Yet!
November 27, 2010

This has become my favorite cold-weather jacket. It's basically like a hybrid of my other (but lighter-weight) favorite, the Arcteryx Gamma MX, and a very high-loft fleece like an MH Monkey Man. As with all things Arcteryx, the quality is stellar and the fit is athletic. Where the Hyllus really shines, though, is in the suppleness of the outer shell and he ultra-softness of the furry inner face. It's so soft, it never feels "technical". It's as comfy as your favorite old sweatshirt, but it sheds rain, breathes like crazy, and works from 60 degrees down to the teens (depending on your base layer or layers). It also slides easily under a shell, and is a luxury to sleep in when the bag's not keeping the chill off. Enough said. Love it.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

nice jacket
October 03, 2009

Nice jacket, but the color of the cactus is really a lot darker than in the picture. I was expecting this jacket to be just as warm as the Mountain Hardwear monkey jacket but it definitely is not. Although, when it comes to water resistance, abrasion resistance, and wind resistance, it smokes any other fleece jacket. This jacket is not considered wind "proof" but it apparently blocks about 98% of the wind. I would consider it wind proof though. All in all its a great buy and I definitely recommend it if you have the money or find it on sale.

snug fit, very warm
January 14, 2010

I got this jacket for a warm, but semi-breathable layer for cooler weather. It works great. It repels minor rain and fits my slim build nicely. I wear a 42L jacket (6'1", 170 lbs) and a medium fits me well. The cuffs are snug which is good for keeping warm, but some might find them restrictive. On a recent trip I wore this over a covert sweater in 30-40 degree weather. I didn't feel any wind, but also felt like the whole thing breathed nicely. It worked nicely. The neck size is about right for a jacket. It fit over the sweater nicely, but by itself has extra room.

fantastic jacket
June 01, 2011

This is a realy nice, high quality and good looking jacket. The jacket is warm and windproof. It's not waterproof but it is water resistent. I wear it to work and outdoors. I usually buy medium tall clothing for my self since I am 6'3'' and 155 lbs. I bought it in Large size and it fit me perfectly well, the sleeves are just the right length for me. Like most Arcteryx products, it is very expensive though...

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost

This Jacket is very warm and good quality. If u are looking for winter jacket. i recommend this one. One thing u considering is Color. Coffee-Bean looks like green.

Great Jacket but sleeves don't sinch up
February 01, 2010

Love the quality and feel. Wish the sleeves had Velcro to control them from riding up when putting on extra layers and to adjust for shorter arm lengths.

Very nice jacket!

I am 6'4" and normal build. A Medium fits me very nice. Arm length is perfect and the jacket sits just below my belt. Extremely well built and looks very good.

This jacket is the best!

This jacket is one of the most amazing jacket regardless of the price. The quality, style, fit, and warmth is simply incredible. I received a coffee bean as a gift and I bought a copper Hercules within three days. I love it so much, I've bought three to give to friends as a gift. You cannot go wrong with this jacket.

The Best
March 30, 2010

Tired of seeing all the TNF?? Well here is the answer to something different and as good if not better! Best all around jacket...Bought it for my trip to Banff and it was hit...I wore this through out the winter in New York and still find myself throwing it on now that Spring is here. So long as the activity is low you can wear this highly breathable jacket with out heating up too much. Not one negative on this jacket...the styling is awesome as well.

High quality, excellent jacket
December 10, 2009

This is my first Arc'teryx product and I am extremely impressed. I'm 6-1 200lbs and the medium fits perfectly. I wear this underneath my leather jacket for motorcycle riding and I'm warm for winter riding in Arizona. I plan to use this for layering when I go snowboarding this weekend.

Nice Jacket, Fit was off for me
January 15, 2010

I was looking for a quality softshell and tried this based on reviews done here. Construction adn finish were great but didnt fit me right (5'8", 150 and got a med). Armholes were too constricting with mid weight base layer , ? manufacturing defect (made in China).

Excellent jacket. Warm and soft w/o the bulk.
December 30, 2009

At minimal to no activity level, and over a t-shirt, this jacket is good for 60 to 35 degrees with low winds. Add a thin shell and I can stand around down to 25 degrees with wind comfortably. At high activity levels like cycling, this jacket quickly becomes way too warm, even at 25-30 degrees. It has excellent breathability, moderate water resistance, and wind resistance up to about 10mph. It's about as warm as a 200-weight fleece (with more wind and water resistance). PROS: Less bulky than most thin down jackets or any other insulated jacket. Softer and more stretchable than any hardshell, leather, and most other multi-layer jackets. Warm enough by itself for all but cold winter days. Seems very durable and easy to hand wash with mild soap and water, even after 200+ days of use. Feels softer/warmer than any North Face fleece or softshell out there. Looks better and stands out from a sea of of people with North Face around here. CONS: Not really a con, but only a few states get cold enough to need this jacket during very high activity levels. FIT: I'm 5'11, 160lbs, and Medium fits well. The belly area is slightly loose if you are thin.

the man loves the jacket

I purchased this as a birthday present, not sure exactly when it might come in handy. Since then, my boyfriend has worn it running, through a (very cold) marathon, and plans to take it along on a snowboarding trip. It is a great quality jacket, good construction. It does warm up quickly if you are doing strenuous activity. The cactus green color is nice. He is about 185 lbs and he likes the roomy fit of the large, although I think a medium would have worked too since it doesn't seem that you need to consider layering heavily under it.

Hyllus Jacket
December 18, 2010

As a ships pilot on the northeast coast I work in some pretty lousy weather conditions. My Hyllus Jacket from Arcteryx is much the same as my other Atcteryx gear, simply up to the task. Considering I have no choice, I have to work in all weather conditions without exceptions I must have gear that works, it's that simple, and my Arcteryx gear always works, period.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: n/a

Perfect jacket for all conditions
April 12, 2010

I actually owned one of these in Slate, but it was stolen. However, I loved it so much I had to buy another one as quickly as possible. It is by far the most durable softshell jacket I've owned, as well as being the most comfortable (you have to feel the fleece lining in person to appreciate it). If they had another medium in black (or slate), I'd buy one as a backup.

Phenomenal

Jacket is extremely comfortable. I just got it and am very pleased with the jacket. My wife loves the look on me :) If you are looking for something that fits well that will keep you warm and a little bit of everything get this jacket.

great, perfect

I love my new Arcteryx Hercules, very lightweight Jacket but at the same time warm protection, slim design, not so heavy and so large, same stretch and shortly design like a Easy Rider Arcteryx Jacket that I have and love, but little less warmer than this. The Cactus color is much more intense than on the product images, less vibrant or brilliant and more darkness green, really beautiful. Simply: all I expected from Arteryx on this piece of gear. Thanks to Altrec, always a good shopping experience, one of my favorites on line shops.

I purchased this jacket, formerly known as the Hercules (i think), with a sick deal last Christmas from Altrec. The plush fleece on the inside is warm and feels awesome. The tough softshell exterior is equally awesome. However, the fit is relaxed. In Arcteryx, I can go with a either a small or a medium. I'm 5'8" 155-160lbs, with a 38" chest. I purchased the medium; Altrec didn't have a small. The jacket has a relaxed fit, so it fit very loosely in the torso and arms. I returned it because of fit and found a small elsewhere, which fits very well. This jacket is very versatile and so soft on the inside, and with the right fit can work out great for a number of applications.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: loose fit

My new favorite jacket for the cold months
January 17, 2010

I live near Lake Tahoe and I had originally purchased this jacked expecting to only use it on cold days but I was wrong. It's so comfortable I end up wearing it all the time. Great Arcteryx quality like everything else. I thank the other reviewer too, at 5 9 and 160 a medium is perfect.

Warmest Mid-Layer
January 04, 2011

...warmer than the Atom LT, and cooler than the Solo. This is Arc'teryx best winter mid-layer--warmest, most breathable, and most durable. The water repellancy is also quite amazing. The only thing this jacket doesn't have is extreme stretchability, like the powerstretch, but it is stretchy enough. Note that the toros length and the sleeves are a little longer than the Arc'teryx average. What's also nice is the lining for the 2 hand pockets, is sewn to the inside of the jacket in such a way, that it can be used as an inner pocket.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, extreme breathable, very warm

Fuzzy and Warm
October 04, 2010

This jacket is a great warm softshell. It is a very comfortable jacket. Part of this is due to the warm and fuzzy high loft fleece interior. The other is by the nature of the softshell itself being an unrestrictive and lightweight peice. Warmth to weight for this jacket is high, it is built with typical Arc'Teryx quality. Fit is standard Arc'Teryx fit, which is slightly slimmer than most brands. I am 5'11" and 160 pounds. The medium fits me perfect. Sleeve length is great. No complaints on this jacket. By far, one of my favorites.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

An excellent all round jacket

A great light weight jacket perfect for everyday use or for more physical activity. Really warm fleece lining with great attention to detail

Exceeded My Expectations
November 16, 2011

I researched softshells extensively before deciding on the Arcteryx Hyllus..I wanted high quality, good fit and superb style. The Hyllus is all of that, plus. It fits perfect, it's warm and it repells water which is important to those of us who live in the Willamette Valley. The only thing i should mention is the ad says the model is 5'11 and 175lbs and wears a medium. I'm 5'10 and 185lbs and a large fits me perfect, if i went with a medium i'm sure it would've been too small. Spend the money, you get what you pay for.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, not a north face

Form fitting, warm, breathable, flawless understated design
February 06, 2010

This piece is exactly the combination I was looking for in jacket and layer to wear under my Arc'teryx hard shell and is has performed amazingly in both facets. The jacket has a simple very understated design that is attractive and form fitting with a very athletic fit. The arm movement is so good that it is hard to figure out exactly how Arc'teryx accomplishes this while maintaining a form fit under your arms. I have similar jackets from Marmot and Mountain Hardware, but none compare to this one. The fleece lining is amazingly comfortable and soft and the jacket still breathes well. The lack of zip vents under the arm is something I thought would be an issue, but so far I haven't had a need for any due to the breath ability of this jacket. As far as sizing goes, I'm 6'0 and 170lbs with pretty wide shoulders and a medium fits me perfect. The draw strings are very helpful in ensuring this a tight secure fit on the waist. Buy it already, sure the price is more than others but nothing great is cheap!

Throw it on and go
March 26, 2010

Got this because it was on sale, shipped quickly. This was the jacket I wore all winter long in CT. In one instance I wore this snowmobiling in VT and it kept me warm and dry. The bungee around the waste definitely kept the snow from ruining the day. Through all the rain we've had the water repellent finish is still holding strong. The only thing is that the wrist seemed a little too tight and kept turning the jacket inside out when I removed it. Great jacket for winter sports and casual use
