Very warm coat for below o temps. Would be better if it had the seam tape zipper.

This a great jacket for extreme cold activity. I find it comfortable for temps under 30 but it gets a little hot if the temp is above freezing. Jacket would be the best if it had pit zips but I think you have to get the Sentry for that functionality. I would buy it on sale but not full price.

This is one heck of a jacket and I consider it my favorite for winter (and I have many). It is very warm; as a winter belay jacket it is perfect but unless the temp is under 20 if you are very active you will sweat. The only real drawback I have found is that I wish it had pit zips (that is why I rated it with 4 stars). The sizing is perfect. I bought a large and I have a 41' chest and the fit is right on. It is trim cut. The inside pockets work with water bottles. The outside pockets are large and warm. The hood does takes a little adjustment. The insulated hood (read thick) is helmet compatable (read large). It does have 3 different well designed hood adjustments so after a bit of playing with it you can get it fitting well to wear without a helmet. I have worn it in the backcountry while backpacking in strong wind and heavy snow, through the under brush. The Atc'teryx rating of SV is correct. I stayed dry and warm and the jacket took the abuse. As is usual of Arc'teryx's quality it is well designed for the active outdoors person. Both the windstopper and the primaloft do their job with the elements and keep the weight down. This is a perfect outdoor mountain jacket for 30 degrees probably down to -20 (maybe more). It is pricey but you get what you pay for in this jacket.

I have only had this jacket for a week but so far it has proven to be a solid performer with just a few faults, the biggest being the lack of pit zips.

very warm jacket. kind of boxy for arcteyx. only had it for a few days before it got stolen in a bar in breck, but it was super warm, the hood is huge, and is very light for its warmth.
recommended but not for full price.
pinetree - 2009-11-06Great/warm jacket
I'm very happy with this jacket but I must say that I would not pay full price for it. I got mine fro $315 + tax on Altrec, although the prices seems to have gone up within the last week (back to $450). As fit goes, I'm 6'3" 180 pounds about, a slim but tall guy, and I wear a medium. In order to better layer I may trade it in for a large, I'd like to wear my R4 underneath it but this makes the jacket feel a bit constrictive when worn. The jacket's not bulky at all and fits like a glove, it's just that this fit doesn't allow for layering in my case.
Overall I've found the jacket to be quite warm and very comfortable. The "Made in China" label is a bit strange to read on an Arc'teryx jacket and I feel should warrant a lower price, hence my suggestion not to buy at retail but rather to wait for a sale price. Regardless, the jacket has performed well thus far and is very comfortable, the copper color looks sharp on top of it all.
