Ideal insulating outerwear for hiking and climbing on cool, calm days, this Arc'teryx Maverick AR Jacket has a streamlined profile that easily layers beneath your skiing and mountaineering shells without jamming up your mobility with extra fabric. Like the Arc'teryx Maverick SV Jacket, this one uses a slimmed-down gusseted underarm sleeve construction to enhance your range of motion. Beneath the front zipper is a wind flap to minimize breeze penetration on blustery days, but the Maverick AR Jacket lacks the same wind resistance as the SV--although you shave at least six ounces off on the overall garment weight. This is a great technical front zip jacket for cool dry conditions and it's indispensable when paired with a waterproof shell.
Excellent, warm jacket
Warm, a high and tight collar, fits well, is relatively good in wind, a pleasure to wear.
Nice jacket
My wife really like it. Nice color and design.
Good but something to be improved
Warmth is the most wonderful thing from this gear. And size is also good. but color(Armadillo)is different from what was seen in monitor. Real thing I got is something with dark grey color

nice jacket
Agree with the other comments. Material is thinnner and lighter than classic polartec 200, but just as warm. However, a few washes will cause it to pill a little bit which may be of concern since there is less material to begin with.
Caution - Pilling is a major Issue with this Jacket
Bought one and it looked great and worked perfect. It still worked perfect three months in, but didn't look very nice. The jacket pilled everywhere that it regularly rubbed => elbows, under the forearm, and lower back. I found three of them at an REI used gear sale for the same reason.
AR=all around indeed
I bought this jacket for a friend who needs something that he can wear all the time, no matter what he ends up doing. This is a great jacket for layering, hiking, cross-country skiing and it even looks nice enough to wear to dinner. It has a great texture, not like a normal fleece that might "pill" and is cut with the always dependable Arc Teryx quality.
What a nice jacket!!
Good quality, warm, made in Canada.
perfect insulation jacket!!
As always you can't get go wrong with Arc'teryx
Nice cut, perfect Polartec Material.
Workmanship is awesome.
Nice Jacket
Nice and light and a great insulator.
Good!!
nice !!
very warm
warm and nice jacket for cold weather.
great jacket
Another great jacket from arcteryx,
Keeps you warm by itself or layer under a shell. I have many arcteryx product and would buy more. They keep making great clothing for the outdoors
Its a keeper
Great to layer with my Gamma MX, and it zips into my North Face Mountain Light. Trim fit, No lift arms, Hem drawcord hidden in pocket (like the Gamma MX). All around winner. Buy this for a insulator fleece. Keep it under a windproof layer though.
Great fit, ideal for layering; does shed rain
This fleece jacket is comparable to the Patagonia Light Weight R4. But the fleece exterior is more rugged (nailhead polartech). It is not windproof. From my experience, if you wear a large in arc'teryx, then buy a large...it is NOT cut ultra trim, at all. I wore this jacket a few days ago and got caught in the rain...not a heavy rain, but not a light mist either. The jacket does shed the rain...it beads up under a light rain...and that is a plus. If you can get this jacket on sale, and if you want a layering piece, but not as warm as a Maverick SV, then this is a very good bet. By construction, this jacket should last 10 years...though pay note: the "lifetime" warranty is the standard "reasonable" lifetime warranty of the jacket...not your lifetime!
warm
Arc'teryx: Men's Maverick AR Jacket is Warm. This Jacket is consist of 100% polyester Polartec Nailhead textured fabric with DWR finished. Good for any winter climbing, hiking and mountaineering.
great
very nice design!! Good!
I would highly reccomend this jacket.
This is a great jacket, although I have only worn it a couple of times since I got it--the weather isn't that cold right now--I cannot complain because I got an excellent deal on it. The jacket is really roomy and moves well with my arms, considering that I have fairly long arms. The two side pockets are roomy enough for just about anything, and I especially like the fact that there is an internal windflap to keep out the wind. It is the perfect lightweight fleece for the Fall.
Awesome!!! Nice length on arms
Great layer, plenty warm, very nice build-quality. Great soft fabric. I am 6'-4" and 190lbs. I worried that the Large I ordered would be to short on Arm length, It fits perfect!!
Another great product from Arc'teryx
I wanted a fleece that didn't look like I just came off the trail. This one is warm, rugged, and can be worn anywhere. Oh, it works great on the trail, and skiing but does not compress well for backpacking.
Warmth Machine when under a shell
This is a very excellent jacket. The fabric is very soft, with the perfect amount of stretch. Unlike some jackets which sacrifice all stretch for the sake of windproofness, or on the other extreme, those that feel like limp spandex, the Maverick AR jacket stretches within the human range of motion, nothing more, nothing less (note: this is not labeled as a 'stretch' item, I am just attempting to describe the feel of the garment). The fabric has excellent loft, and is very comfortable next to the skin (as in soft, but i wanted to avoid the rhyme). Due to its design as an under-shell insulator, it lacks the multitude of zippers and buttons and nylon patches found on fleece jackets designed as outerwear. However, if you are truly purchasing this jacket for the purpose intended, this is a mark of excellence, another example of how well arcteryx creates the kind of perfect and simple specificity in their clothing, a quality which is greatly appreciated by any who take the care of properly layering. As for te insulating qualities, I have been comfortable standing still for 2-3 hours in 20-30 degree weather, wearing nothing but a t-shirt, this jacket, and my gore-tex shell. Many of my friends say that I have an above average tolerance for cold, so take that part of the review with a grain of salt. As for sizing, the only real comparison i can give you is between my other garments. If you are familiar with Mountain Hardwear soft-shells, a maverick AR large is equal to a Mountain Hardwear Synchro jacket XL, which, as far as i can tell, makes it an actual 'large', so its safe to order your normal size. it is long for a "jacket", something which i appreciate, since it never rides above the small of my back. Again, just to make sure its clear, this jacket is not windproof in any way, AND that is not a detriment to this jacket. It is designed perfectly for what it is intended for, and it is not intended to block wind or rain. If you need a cold weather insulator under a shell, this is the last webpage you need to look at. (not extreme, arctic cold, mind you..but certainly adequate for anything you'll find in the continental US or southern half of canada)
great jacket
Arc'teryx goods may be a little pricey, but their construction and subsequent durability pay off in the long run. This jacket is very warm alone, but is also great under soft or hard shells.
Fantastic Layering Piece!!!
This jacket has a great trim fit that doesn't ride up at all even when scrambling. Nice pill resistant fabric too.
Definitely worth the price.
Arc'teryx Rules!!
great overall
gets four stars for lack of a chest pocket. a necessity for an under shell jacket. Aside from that it does as any mid fleece should.
above average
above average
Great under a shell, not as a shell.
The garment is very warm and holds heat very well and breathes great too. Under a shell that blocks wind and rain is where it shines. If you figure on wearing it alone, the wind will remind you the garment's indended use is to be used as an inner layer.
Very Comfort...Great Fit
The jacket is very warm and comfortable. It's a must for anyone who needs a quality fleece without the bulk. The sizing of the jacket is right on target. As long you follow the guidelines you should have no problem.
Awesome Jacket
I purchased this jacket recently after seeing it in the store but without trying it on.
Figured what the hell, Altrec has pretty flexible return policy.
It is warm, lightweight & unlike ordinary fleece resists pilling which is a plus. In addition the seams are flat and it has two handwarmer pockets. Warm enough for lining inside jacket and waterproof enough as outer layer too.
Kind of on the expensive side but that's probably the only negative. Would recommend. Shop around, some colors are cheaper than others.
Very good for layering
The jacket works well as a second layer under a windproof shell. It does not "ride up" the abdomen when you are active nor does it feel bulky. The jacket is extremely comfortable and looks great. It is not windproof.
Not Very Good Material
Owned this fleece and the outer material started pilling almost right away. I'm not sure why the manufacturer still sells this but don't waste your money. I returned it and they gave me something else.
