my favorite for cold, continuous wet weather
November 02, 2010
This jacket is great. I use it ice climbing, touring, on the dirtbikes, at the resort, everything. Taped seams, so pretty much waterproof. I love it for skiing and i actually think the hood is better than on some arc'teryx ski jackets for helmets. This has been my primary ski jacket in horrendous conditions with out any problems at all. Great jacket. Could use a couple more internal pockets though. Has been very durable for several seasons-but no as durable as the mountain hardwear alchemy-but this jacket is more versatile.
Great jacket

Great Soft Shell, vented, sheds water really well, hooded, shoulders and elbow areas are designed extremely well.It is longer than alpha sv, and it is very suit for ice climbing.
Pros: Great design, PerformanceLight and a wind blocker!

This is an awesome light weight jacket. It is low profile; yet an high performing jacket. The hood is perfect when light rains drops. I live in SF and it is perfect. I am 6 feet and 180 lbs. Size large is perfect, but on the tighter side. If you want an extra layer inside, XL would be better.

one of best Arc'teryx softshell jacket
December 13, 2009
This venta sv jacket is absolutely one of most classical softshell of Arc'teryx company, it's fashion and performance are excellent, I love it, absolutely!
Highly Waterproof, Nice to wear
December 27, 2010
The Arc'teryx Venta SV made from GoreTex Windstopper, which is basically a more breathable version of waterproof GoreTex. So, the fabric is essentially waterproof; what sets this jacket apart from most other Windstoppers is the finish taping on the seams. Now, to be clear, this doesn't make it waterproof by GoreTex standards, which is a rain room test.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valuebest in its class

Great jacket. Really like pretty much everything about it, the fit, the styling. A bit expensive, but got it while on sale. Highly recommended.
Short Sleeves
October 29, 2011
First let me say, this is a great jacket. Arcteryx makes everything high quality. My only issue is the fit. I'm 6'3 200 and had fit problems with the Large and XL. The body of the L fit nicely but the sleves were too short. The XL was way too big in the body, but still borderline on the length of the sleeves. I know Arcteryx makes some things in Tall sizes, but they can be tough to come by.
Great Jacket! Love it

Comfortable, great collar, Large hood... great for wearing a helmet underneath. All around great outdoor jacket.
Pros: Performance, Cons: CostDecent shell, but not for me
February 24, 2010
As soft shells go, the quality of the fabric on this was top notch. I wanted to use it for skiing, but the lack of pockets was a deal breaker for me. Arc'teryx in general seems to be geared for traveling light and fast, and as such forgoes the useful but apparently heavy features that TNF and other brands include. All in all, the cut of the jacket was nice except the front came up too high for me. The color was excellent, I got the Aztec with darker orange shoulders.
good jacket

Expensive but good. I took this Jacket for glacier travel and ice climbing. After full day walking and climbing on the pouring rain I was impressed with this highly waterproof softshell.
Excellent Jacket, super bright color, just the way I like it

This jacket is awesome. I am 5'8" and medium fits me really well. Blocks wind like nothing else. I really like the copper color. 5 stars for another great piece from Arc'teryx.
Great fitting Jacket - bomb proof function

This jacket looks great, fits great and is super windproof and warm. Great mobility and light feel. I am a broader chested person and an XL wears perfect.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceSweet piece of gear

Nice soft shell jacket that I use as my everyday jacket in and around NYC. I usually wear a short sleeve polo shirt, a thin fleece, and this jacket and am fine in temperatures down to 30 degrees or less. This is a soft shell jacket with minimal insulation so others who have complained about requiring layers with this jacket, keep in mind, that is the point of this jacket. it's a soft "shell". The windproof works great, I don't feel any wind flowing through the jacket and it can get quite windy where i live. Also, i'm 6 ft 185 lbs with a muscular build and the large fits me perfectly. The cut of the jacket is a little boxier and not as "athletic" as other acteryx jackets (i also have the Alpha SV), however, the additional room is nice to be able to throw additional layers underneath including a thick fleece. All in all, the fit is still nice. Once last thing is that this particular jacket is made in China and not Canada, however the craftsmanship still looks top notch but only time will tell.......
Arcteryx Jacket
November 29, 2010
First Arcteryx product I have owned and it wont be the last. Jacket has a great fit, athletic but not too tight. Construction is top notch. I went out and got the Stingray Arcteryx pants to complement the jacket. Looking forward to the snow.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceExpensive shell but worth the $

I've tried at least a dozen softshell out in the market. The brands I've tried include all the major ones such as The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, etc. I must admit that I am a huge fan of Arcteryx products but by far, this is the most comfortable, functional, and stylish shell with a hood out there. As far as the size is concern, it is not too big or small so that this jacket can be worn without or with insulation. The material used is softer than TNF and Marmot but Mountain Hardwear's silk conduit is softer and smoother. Although, the fit and functionality of this jacket is simply the best as no wind gets through and keeps you dry. The details of this jacket is second to none. Though lots of Arcteryx products are manufacutred in China these days, the quality control is far superior than any other manufacturer in the business. Overall, nearly $400 jacket is pricey but if you can afford it, this will serve you well. I personally recommend this highly.
Great windproof softshell!
January 21, 2010
I have had one of the Venta SV shells for the last two seasons and used it for almost everything except rainy days and it has performed great. The Windstopper fabric blocks the wind and the DWR finish repells the snow. The sizing is perfect - no long arms like the Gamma MX hoody - enough room for a light mid layer. Pit zips come in handy on those long uphill skins. Durability is great with good abrasion resistance. I like it so much that I purchases a new one in Candy Apple Red so that my ski buddies could find me on storm days!!!

Jacket was not as thick as i thought it would be but does as a great job of blocking wind. I am 6'-0'' 190 XL might be a touch big for me but I think it will work well for layering in these cold MI winters. I really liked how the collar goes up inside the hood, it makes the jacket more functional when you don't have the hood on.
Pros: Great designArc'teryx Men's Venta SV Jacket Photo
Big Sky, Black, Kaktos, Nighthawk, Nightshade and Yippee Cayenne.
