Wow: New Vertical does it all
October 22, 2011
Since the Vertical is new, I obviously have not had a chance to test it out in extreme conditions, especially here in New Mexico. However, my initial impression is very good. Or should I say wow. I wanted a tough, weather-proof shell, but with hand pockets and interior pockets since I would be using it for skiing, where you always seem to need storage. This jacket looks like it will work perfectly for that, with seven pockets. In addition, I wanted a storable hood, which is has, since I usually use a helmet and don't often need a hood. The combination of these two features appears to be somewhat rare in Arc'teryx shells, but the new Vertical was exactly what I was looking for. The build appears to be typical of Arc'teryx: water- and wind-proof, tough, and of very high quality. I am 5'9' and 155lbs with a medium build. I purchased a medium and with the exception of slightly longer than necessary sleeves, it fits very well, including the shoulders and chest. A thin base layer with a decently warm medium layer fills the jacket out but does not make it too tight. I am definitely looking forward to using it on the slopes this winter.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, versitility
