well balanced, high end, not too severe
May 02, 2012

Got this in the color purpura in size S for my wife (slim 5'2) about a year ago - time for a review. Overall, pretty awesome... as expected for the price. Sleeves are a little long for her arms, but this seems deliberate according to other reviews. Very comfortable fabric - not too noisy like gore-tex proshell can be. In colder, rainy conditions, this jacket (like many arcteryx goretex 3L jackets) is the antidote to that 'vulnerable' feeling you might have with less technical ware - your body is breathing but shielded from falling skies. FYI that this jacket has a very light 'felt' on the inner lining in select areas that is meant for just the right amount of insulation for active people in colder conditions... unlike the beta/alpha/theta series that are pure, purpose-driven shells. This jacket also has a few more pockets than those minimalist shells so it's more versatile. Storm skirt also helps for winter sports. Hood is one of best designed out there. So far so good.

I am very satisfied with this Arc'teryx jacket, It has many features. At first, thanks to its Gore-Tex softshell materials, it is softer than normal hardshell jacket, and could provide some warmth for me. Secondly, it could protect me from heavy rain or hurricane, same with other hardshell. At last, It looks so stylish and has a high quality, I love it!

Tempest Jacket
February 13, 2011

I have been a fan of Arcteryx jackets for many years and have owned a couple myself so I was comfortable recommending to my wife that she check them out herself. I know what good quality costs so that was not an issue for me. She gets cold easily so was not sure about buying a shell but she is a convert now. She is 5'3" and slim so she tried the small - fits perfectly. On a recent hike on a 20 degree day she said that she was completely comfortable without overheating or feeling like she was sweating in the jackte (which she was accustomed to with other jackets) She also had on a fleece and poly pro base layer. The sleeves are little long (by design) but the velcro closures give her a good arm fit and the hood is designed to accomodate a helmet (which she does not use) but the pull cord gives a good fit there as well. She likes the whole look of the jacket because it would look good in the city or on the mountain (especially the light blue accents on the sleeve and zippers).

Love it so far!
December 29, 2010

My husband bought an Arc'teryx jacket, pants, and sweater last season and he loves them. This year, I got this jacket and pants, and so far, I love them as well! They have protected me from the wind, they are waterproof, and they fit and look great. I feel like a pro out there on the slopes. I don't think we will be using any other brands from now on! I also plan to purchase an Arc'teryx sweater to go under the jacket, as it is mainly a shell and I need some extra warmth.

great jacket, but returned
October 28, 2010

I really liked this jacket, but wish it was longer. A description says that it hits mid-thigh, but is hit right at my hips (I am 5'5", size small). Not as flattering as I hoped.
