If extended trips or a job as a guide place you in the outdoors no matter the weather, a tough, storm proof jacket, like the Arcteryx Theta AR for Women is a necessity. Featuring GORE-TEX®: Pro Shell, a fabric that breathes better, lasts longer, and is even lighter than anything else on the market today, and offers a greater level of comfort and packability. Decorated with features to satisfy even the most hardcore mountaineer or backcountry skier, the Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket remains amazingly light by employing industry leading innovations, such as micro seam allowances and tiny GORE-TEX®: seam taping.
Waist and hem drawcords, articulated elbows, and no-lift gusseted underarms allow for full range of motion while blocking cold drafts and spindrift. Laminated zippers and bonded soft grommets contribute to the jacket's supple feel, and the one hand pull cords are exceedingly convenient when one hand is busy tending to a belay.
Major improvements since last version
My wife basically wore out her first Arcteryx jacket and I set out to find her something even better. After checking out the OR Mentor jacket we realized that the Theta had a better design for all-around use. We originally thought we had a version which didn't correlate to her existing Arcteryx jacket since the new one was so lightweight and thin. Now we realize that the advances in the fabrics have resulted in extremely lightweight jackets with the same durability and water resistance. Old jacket wearers should go check out the new stuff, even if they aren't getting wet yet!
Awesome!
After several years of my wife borrowing my North Face Summit Series Goretex shell, I decided to buy her this jacket. Especially for the days when I was skiing and took my jacket, but also because there are many days that we are together and both need one, and guess who goes without (that would be me). She wanted a long torso to cover her hips and block the wind, snow and rain, and based on other reviews and the stellar Arc'Teryx name, I took a chance (can you really go wrong with this brand?) on this one.
She is absolutely thrilled and loves the jacket! It has already gotten some real cold weather testing (is it warm anywhere lately?) and she has stayed warm and dry every time!
Sizing must be personal preference because she is 5'4" / 130 lbs, and based on other reviews, I would have guessed a size small, but her other jackets are medium so I went with that and she loves it! Plenty of room for layers and the Wisteria color matches her gorgeous blue eyes quite nicely.
This jacket is pricey, but it is an investment that should last for many years. The quality is phenomenal and at worst case equal to my North Face which has seen a lot of use and abuse over 8 years but still functions and looks great. I expect this jacket will perform and holdup similarly.
Great fit, extra-long torso!
I ordered the Theta AR before a recent skiing trip at Squaw. The construction of the jacket is flawless... waterproof seams, gusseted arms, drawstring hood. I'm 5'10" and this is the ONLY Arc'teryx shell jacket that has a long enough torso to keep the snow out. I also tried the Beta, which has a similar fit but hits at the waist instead of the hips. Compared with other Arc'teryx jackets, I think this runs a bit big. I'm normally a size medium, but I exchanged this for a small because the medium was loose in the back, which could allow wind (and snow!) to blow up. Overall, I would definitely recommend this jacket, especially if you're a taller woman.

Closest thing I've to a 4 season jacket.
At 130 and 5'3'', the small still has some room for layering, although for active sports a mid base layer is all that's needed down to 0'F. The material is slightly stiff. Love all the adjustments to give a custom fit.
It's Arc'teryx! What more can you ask for?
I wanted to get the Theta AR (AR stands for "All Round" aka versatile) because I wanted more coverage than my Marmot Minimalist and because the Pro Shell breathes a lot better than Paclite (and it's Arc'teryx). Since the Theta is a relaxed fit jacket, it tends to run bigger than my athletic fit Arc'teryx coats. I am 5'3", 120 lbs. and I usually wear a size small. I ordered a small and my initial thought was that it was a bit bigger than I had wanted it to be. For a couple weeks, I was in limbo if I should exchange it for an x-small. Everyone said it looked fine but I didn't want the extra material to drag me down when I'm biking or hiking. This is what it comes down to: What are you going to use this coat for? If you're anything like me, you want something versatile; especially if you are going to spend this much money. If you plan to just use this jacket for warmer weather and don't intend to wear multiple layers underneath it, go for a size smaller than what you normally wear. If you plan to wear it during the colder months and intend to wear multiple layers underneath it, go for your normal size. I kept my size small and figured it was better to have it a bit bigger than a bit smaller. It is also a longer length jacket; it goes past my bum (it's really good for biking in the rain). Lastly, the craftsmanship is phenomenal! I am a huge Arc'teryx junkie and there is nothing out there that can steal my heart away from this company. If you are thinking about buying the Theta AR, I say go for it! You'll be happy you did and wished you would have done it sooner! I'm in love with mine!
PERFECT!!
I REALLY LIKE THIS JACKET, IT IS VERY LIGHT AND COMFORTABLE.
Arc'teryx, the Armani of Gore-Tex
We bought two of these jackets and got them for an good price we think. The jackets fit perfectly. I am 186cm and slim, she is 177cm and slim. We went for medium and small. The jackets are light weight, roomy and tight at the same time. The arms are long enough and the hood is big enough for a helmet. Everything is well thought out and it feels and looks like... the Armani of Gore-Tex. We have only tried them in days of heavy rain so far, but they have kept us completely dry. And they breath very well. Very happy. Can't wait for winter. We also bought some Arc'teryx pants on sale. Same thing. Great poducts, great value. We could maybe wish for a snow skirt, but with tall pants that should not be a problem. The jackets have great tightening features around hips and waist. The pockets are not the largest I've seen, but big enough. I don't think you can go wrong with these jackets :)
Amazing!
I just bought this jacket and was recently caught in a downpour. I was completely dry thanks to this jacket. Love the style and fit, too.
Great Great jacket.
Took it with on a skiing trip to norway.
Arc'teryx has the best quality
I bought this jacket because I was moving to New Zealand and was going to do a lot of outdoor stuff in raining conditions. This jacket is the best hardshell I have ever owned. I bought a size bigger because I usually put a few layers under it. It fits very nicely compared to a lot of other woman's jacket. The sleeves are long enough. Well worth the extra money as I have been staying dry every time I wore it.
light and cutting edge
I bought this jacket for my daughter. She loves it. Very light and cutting edge. Only complaint is that she would like it to have a zip away hood like my (discontinued) Theta LT
Best of the Gore Tex
After much searching to replace a worn but loved Eddie Bauer jacket, I was convinced by a co-worker that Arcteryx is the Next Great Thing. He was right.
The construction is flawless, the fit is marvelous, and this baby keeps out the rain as well as the wind, so I highly recommend getting it slightly larger than normal so you can wear a fitted fleece under it during the winter.
Best part, of course? All of the stares and comments that I get: it's form is almost better than it's function.
NB: regarding size, the small was perfect for me (size 8 on top), although the sleeves were a hint short. I went medium and it's perfect for layering without billowing on its own.
Theta AR Jacket
This is a great jacket! Plenty of pockets, very good two tone colors. The Theta jacket blocks the rain snow wind very well. I would highly recommend the hard shell. Arc'teryx makes one of the best 3 ply waterproof jackets out there.
TERRIFIC !
JUST RETURNED FROM A CRUISE TO ALASKA AND USE MY NEW JACKET WHILE
HELICOPTER RIDING ON GLACIER BAY! WORKED BEAUTIFULLY.
THE JACKET HAS A COMPLICATED SYSTEMS OF PULL CORDS THAT I COULD HAVE USED AN EXPLANATION FOR...WOULD RECOMMEND THESE INSTRUCTIONS BE INCLUDED IN THE VARIOUS TAGS. THIS IS A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR AN ALL AROUND RAIN/WEATHER JACKET
The perfect jacket
I bougth this jacket for a friend of mine.
She loves it. It's got a very good fit, and has all the right details.
The Theta AR is really an allround model. We use it for hiking, mountaineering and skiing.
Perfect
I wore it yesterday in an all-day-long down pour and stayed dry as a bone. It is excellent at blocking the wind and keeping you dry. Plus its the lightest piece of outerwear that I own.
Wonderfully made hard-working product
The craftsmanship of Arc'teryx is hard to argue with. The prices are steep and getting this on sale was a great find!
It has simple lines and not too many "bells and whistles" which makes it extremely versatile. I have had it on daily since it arrived, and expect that it will hold up for many years to come.
so.....cool
gooooooood!
Wonderful jacket!
Very well made, perfect fit and very good looking. It totally blocks wind and water. Thanks to Altrec for the great deal.
Expensive but nice and light
Very expensive but dose the job

Nice Jacket
This is my second ArcTeryx purchase. My wife really likes the jacket and I am impressed with the quality of an ArcTeryx product. Altrec was quick with shipping.
Functional Jacket
The Thata AR jacket fits very well, looks stylish, and most importantly, assures that you'll stay dry during your outdoor endeavours. Whether it be skiing or hiking/backpacking, you can depend on this jacket. People often quesetion why Arc'teryx costs more, but when you own one, you'll know it's because their cutting edge designs, quality materials and attention to details makes great functional products.
Great
Great jacket. Took it with on a skiing trip to norway. It was perfect. I was warm and dry the entire trip because of the theta. The jacket is very function, yet has a great fit and look.
It's Arcteryx, isn't it!
Arcteryx' workmanship, attention to detail and unsurpassed quality are all invested in this jacket. While styling/trendiness is never Arcteryx' goal, it always seems to set the standard in everything and the imitators (North Face, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear etc) are constantly struggling to catch up!
Outstanding style and comfort
The Act'teryx Theta AR jacket not only successfully wards off the wind and cold, but it is amazingly light weight and very stylish. No more bulky jackets for me when snowshoeing or skiing. Without question, this high-tech jacket is well worth its price....
Arc'teryx - simply the best
Arc'teryx simply makes the best outwear in the business. Their attention to detail and quality is second to none. There garments look as good in town as they do in the wilderness.
Absolutely great!
The best jacket I've ever owned. It's quite light but keeps warm and confortable. Works perfectly in rain and snow. Absolutely worth the money.
Best Gore-Tex XCR Jacket
This is the best Gore-Tex XCR out there, beats other brands like Mountain Hardware and Marmot hands down. It's good looking, very light and fits perfectly. I wear it in all kinds of weather and it always works great. If you only buy one jacket, this is the one to own. It is expensive, but definitely worth the money. The longer you wear it, the more you'll appreciate it.
The best shell money can buy
The fit and motion of the jacket are amazing. The seams, zippers, and pockets are very well designed. This jacket will work for all sports in the winter and summer. It's made to carry backpacks, and still keeps out driving rain. The best jacket I've ever owned. If you see it on clearance, it won't be there for long....
I love it.
I love my Theta AR. The fit is impeccable and it never fails at its' job - keeping the wind, rain, and snow out. I looked at other shells when deciding what to buy and this one is definitely the best. Worth every cent.
Hot Jacket!
This is definately the most I've ever spent on a jacket, but it's been great for everything. I've used it snowboarding and hiking. While all of my friends were cold on the hills this winter, this jacket with a light Polartec fleece kept me warm and dry. The length is great and I especially liked having the hood on those windy days. Love this jacket!
