Description

Recognized as the breakout helmet at Bern, this Baker Hard Hat Audio Helmet for men is based on the original pro model Baker helmet introduced by two-time snowboard cross gold medalist Seth Wescott at Torino, Italy in 2006. What makes this version of the Bern Baker helmet different is the Hard Hat Brock foam and thicker ABS shell. The Hard Hat versions of Bern ski and snowboarding helmets use open cell foam that feels lighter and far more breathable than conventional EPS hard foam. While Brock foam will offer multiple low-impact protection, it does not meet the action sports head protection defined by ASTM F 2040 and EN 1077B standards found for EPS hard foam designs. The Men's Baker helmet has a snap-out insulated audio liner for four-season applications, making it a popular choice for guys who also kayak or wakeboard after the snow begins to melt.

Specifications

  • Shell: Thick ABS shell (denser than traditional Bern EPS hard foam helmets)
  • Foam: Breathable, lightweight Brock Foam designed to protect from multiple low-impacts
  • Liner: Snap-out audio knit liner
  • Does NOT conform to ASTM F 2040 and EN 1077B standards found for EPS hard foam helmets
  • Weight: 18.5 oz

Pretty Decent Helmet
December 21, 2011

Took the helmet out of the box and tried it on. It was a perfect fit (I wear about a 7 3/8 to 7 1/2 hat) and kept my head nice and warm! I can't wait to try this out on the slopes.

Pros: Great design, Performance

Great helmet, but weak audio jack
November 07, 2011

The helmet and speakers are great! Can't say enough about how much better it is to have my tunes, and yet still be able to hear my buddies. The speakers sit around the base of my skull, and pound me there. Their voices can still be heard, with a focused listen. The jack on the knitted part of the hat ain't so good... I damaged it the second trip when I was unplugging the special cord. The wires they use are really small, and I can comfortably say that they are difficult to solder.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use

Fantastic helmet - looks + comfort
February 15, 2011

This helmet delivers on all fronts. Looks: probably one of the best looking helmets on the market. It's got a low profile, so your head looks proportional to your body. Also, the front visor gives it a modern and urban feel, making me want to wear it for aesthetics alone! I use the Oakley A-frame goggles and they fit nicely with the helmet. Comfort: The liner fits snugly with no pressure points. The helmet is also light so my neck isn't sore after a day of shredding the mountains. Audio: I have heard from others that the audio system is subpar. My experience has actually been the opposite. I was impressed with the sound quality and have not had any issues with durability yet. That said, I have only used this helmet for a couple weeks so it might take additional time for issues to surface. My only reservation with the helmet is the lack of vents. I've only used it in cold weather and have found it to regulate my head temperature well. I am apprehensive of how it will handle during the spring season. I don't sweat much so for those of you who do, I would recommend checking out the bern watts helmet line.

Pros: Great design
Comfort: 3 / 5

Performance: 3 / 5

ok helmet
February 09, 2011

just bought this helmet. took it to killington 2 days after. helmet worked fine at the lodge go to the top of the mountain on my first run and the headphones did not work. i am returning it now. called bern they said they will send me a new headphone piece but it will take 4-5 weeks as the part is backordered. not happy since in 4-5 weeks the season will be over. seperate headphones and seperate helmets might be a better option for next time.

Pros: Great design
Cons: Poor quality

Awesome Helmet, Wrong Color Shipped
January 06, 2010

This helmet is awesome. The audio sounds great. Wish it had a mute button but I'll deal with it. I was hoping to get the color of helmet from the picture but the wescott black matte is what was shipped to me. But I kept it anyway.

Helmet Awesome, Altrec Needs Improvement
December 10, 2009

This is a GREAT helmet. It is very comfortable, warm, and I enjoy the 8tracks audio. I'm wary of the Brock foam due to warnings that it provides less protection. But, the foam is good for many impacts, unlike the EPS foam. On Altrec's mistake, the helmet pictured is not the helmet you get. It is the Seth Wescott Edition, but is solid black with a white design on the back, as opposed to the orange, black, and white pattern shown. It does say the helmet is matte black in the order, so I won't argue. Still a sharp looking lid!

Awesome helmet!!!
November 16, 2009

The helmet is awesome! I have not had a chance to wear it skiing yet, but I have worn it longboarding and most of the time I forgot I was even wearing it! It was slightly large for my head but I just put a bandanna on, I can honestly say I don't think I have ever worn a helmet this comfortable.

wrong color
September 10, 2009

The helmet was the right color, but it came with a different liner than the one in the picture(the in the pic was black and it came with plaid)
