For winter use, runs small
January 19, 2012
Runs a tad small. Got M but it was too snug despite having taken a measurement prior to ordering the helmet. I suggest adding 1-2cm and ordering whichever size into that range. It looks great and is very light. Unfortunately it only came with a winter liner (not sure how that falls under "all-season" since it would definitely be a sweatfest during summertime.) Without a liner the helmet is very uncomfortable as there's no padding on the sides and the fit becomes too loose. Would have definitely kept it had it not been for those 2 issues.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueFits Women Too!

I have avoided wearing a helmet for skiing because all the ones I tried in the stores were so uncomfortable and expensive! True to listed size, the Bern fits great and is very comfortable even wearing my prescription glasses! It sits low on my head, unlike the other bike helmet types and is very light. Since I bought it at the end of the season, I haven't tried it on the slopes yet. There is no vent closure switch, though--just a thin, Velcro liner that you can use to cover some of the vents, but it seems pretty warm, and I could fit a helmet liner underneath. I'll update when winter comes. I do wish the helmet strap had one of those soft covers under the chin, though,
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, light, comfortable, low profile, Cons: no chin strap cover, no full vent closureAlready own the Bern Brentwood Helmet with Zipmold Foam? Tell us your thoughts.
Comfortable helmet!

I bought one last year for skiing. It fits nicely and I think they run true to size. I used it with my Electric EG2 goggles, but I chose to wear them inside with a beanie because the straps weren't really helmet compatible. I'm sure most goggles will fit nicely though. Unfortunately though, I dropped them onto a hard metal surface, and probably because of that cracks started to appear. I already took a few hard hits before that, so I guess it did more than (I believe they are single-impact helmets) it should have. Or maybe there were already cracks inside. Anyhow, I used it for last season and it was great so I might even think about buying another one!
Pros: Great design, Ease of useGreat Winter Helmet

I commute by bike year-round in New England. I bought this helmet for the winter - I think it's the best thing on the market. Compared to many dedicated snow sports helmets, it's lighter and allows you to hear traffic. It fits very small - I wear a L Bell, and I fit an XXL Bern with the standard liner. I ended up going with XXXL so I could layer a balaclava, etc. underneath the winter kit.
Pros: Great designRuns very small

I very excitedly bought this helmet as a Christmas present for my husband, who has a very large head. An XXXL, I figured it would be perfect! However, as another reviewer indicated, this helmet runs small. The XXXL is not 60.5-62 cm as stated--he had to force it onto his 62 cm head, no way he was going to wear it for a day of skiing. It fit my size L head well, and from trying it on I can say it was comfortable--liked the small profile and the knit lining was cozy--but we have no comment on durability, performance, or quality because of the sizing issue. Went back today.

Be careful about size

This appears to be a good helmet, but watch your size. Even the XL size is not big enough for larger heads. XL is only slightly larger than a typical M.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityNice helmet

I have worn bike helmets for some 25 years and never liked paying more than $30 for a helmet. I just got tired of helmets that never felt snug around my head. My coworker had a Bern Brentwood and I liked the shape. I tried it on and I really liked how snug and comfortable it felt. Altrec had a nice sale. So I bought one. I can't comment on its durability because I just got it. But the comfort and fit are great. My wife and son tried it and they want one too. So I'm going to end up ordering a couple of more of these.

Pros: Ease of use, Great valueTough fit - hard to size

I can not really comment on anything but the fit - which is not good. I do not have an overly large head, but XL was hard as rock, and tight as the devil. I suspect the fit has to be perfect to work - so getting this helmet on the internet is not a good idea. I suspect even with in the sizes there is some difference in fit. Looks good - fits bad, sorry to report.
Cons: Bad designCheck the sizing chart
January 30, 2012
Before you buy, definitely check the sizing chart. Athough I don't have an XL body, evidently I have an XL head by Bern standards. So that is what I ordered and it fits very well. The design appears to provide more coverage than conventional bike helmets. There is a place on the back to attach a small light also. My only concern is that there aren't as many ventilation holes as my older helmet, and may be too warm in the summer. But as it is winter now, that isn't a concern. The knit liner meshes perfectly and is quite warm. I'll have to get the summer liner. It's too bad you can't buy them both with the helmet. Overall, I'm pleased. I hope I never need it. But I wouldn't get on a bike without one.

I finally found a helmet that fits!!

Okay -- for all of 'yoose' guys and gals with huge heads. This xxxl helmet is the ONLY one available that actually fits and is comfortable. This helmet fits like a glove -- very, very happy with it. One heck of a lot more comfortable than the helmet I use for beekeeping -- yikes.
