The Right Tent for Moto Camping
June 05, 2013
While not new to camping I have been gathering equipment for extended camping from an off-road motorcycle. Those I travel with recommended Big Agnus tents for their small pack size, light weight and durability. I chose the Copper Spur UL2. The first set up was pretty simple and a cinch the second or third time. Practice helps. Best feature is that it packs to a length just under 20 inches (better than advertised). At around 3.5 pounds without footprint it can ride fairly high on my small motorcycle w/o affecting balance. The interior size is best for one person my size (5 ft. 9" / 185 lbs.) and their gear. The equipment carried for moto camping is necessarily greater than for backpacking so the extra room is welcome especially as I use a rectangular bag and full size inflatable pad.. I've yet to camp in rain but the overall size and adequate ventilation limits interior condensation. A slightly larger vestibule would be welcome but it is certainly workable. It seems expensive; reliable equipment usually is.
