a must have for rough hikes
September 18, 2009
My wife & I ( 60+) are regular day hikers 2-3 times a week in the Coronado's AZ & have found these poles very helpful(BLD trail shock poles) in particular on slippery slopes, downhill, going through running water, & to lighten the stress on the knees going steep uphills . The snap on device to set the pole at the right length is easy to use and if it snaps shut you know your pole is set. I feel that I might over or under torque a twist on device. Easy & quick to adjust, a little shorter going uphill, a little longer downhill. They are light, easy to carry flat or to store in the backpack. The shock damper device doesn't seem useful to us, maybe for fast trekkers. The handle is comfortable & the loop well designed, the pommel is OK but a little small and starts hurting the wrist after a long day. We usually use only one pole. Hard trekkers or very fast hikers would use both. Conclusion: A very good pole, a little pricy.
Awesome quality.

I have yet to field test them, but what I can say is the quality and build of these trekking poles is top-notch. Black Diamond has done it yet again, with excellent quality and functionality. The only complaint I have is that, to undo the flip lock takes the strength of Hercules, and also the price is a bit steep. In the end, all of these are minor issues, and should not prevent anyone from enjoying top quality trekking poles.

Perfect

Not much to say. They are light, sturdy, don't reverberate as others do. They are compact. They are perfect. This is my second pair of BD hiking poles and this pair is even better. Black Diamond rules.
what a pair of Sticks

Great item. Like always I go to my local outfitter/sporting goods store, take things for a run than go to the ALTREC site. Great sticks the patient locking system is outstanding took them on a 3 Mile Hill hike with changes in Elevation specially the down hill itâs like having four legs. I loaded down my pack to see what the sticks offer and they were great took them off the trails to see how I would do in rock areas they saved me a few times from a fall. If you are looking for a pair of trekking Poles these are it. You get more than you paid for. Thanks and keep it safe.

Hi, started using these after another well known brand repeatedly slid shut on tricky snow crossings in the Alps. My son, who mountaineers, recommended the Black Diamonds to me and I have never been disappointed on many treks. They have survived being taken apart for various airports this summer while hiking in Norway and Switzerland. They are easy to adjust and always dependable-a safety issue for me. I have recommended them to various friends, who have also been pleased with them.

Great buddy on a long hike

I recently went on a long hike in Taiwan and brought one pole. It was awesome especially the flick lock feature. It was so convenient that my friends' poles looked cumbersome to adjust. the grip was great, I could switch sides easily. I would never leave for a hike without my pole.

EXCELLENT POLES, VERY STRONG....

These are a great poles, they are light, compact and very strong, very easy to adjust, even with your gloves on, these feels very comfortable in your hands, the most important to me, I used these poles many times in a hard climbing and these never break or bend, to me they worth every cent that I spent on these. I checked many options before I bought these and today I think that I took the best choice. Do not use a cheap option poles, they seems that they could works but when you are in the mountains they going to fail, trust me.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
