Great compact shovel
January 30, 2011

Had originally thought about purchasing one of these for emergencies, but never gave it serious thought until I tried out my friend's. This shovel is sturdy, compact, with a great design for the handle. Most backcountry shovels are a two-piece requiring room for the handle and the pan, while the Deploy is all in one minimizing space! Genius! The handle's bar is shaped in such a way that it minimizes "shake" from bar and the pan while shoveling. All in all this compact shovel is well worth the money for the quality and design!

Great shovel so far. Well built and sturdy feeling. A tad shorter than expected, but the dimensions are accurate. It does its job, it's sturdy, and it packs nicely.

Black Diamond Deploy 7 Snow Shovel
February 11, 2011

Used my Deploy 7 last night for the first time after just receiving the shovel. I was really impressed with the light weight, but certainly a very strong shovel. The blade cut through frozen snow this morning so I could melt the snow to drink. The shovel is compact and I didn't even notice on my backpack. I highly recommend this shovel to anyone else.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Great Shovel...Solid!
December 25, 2010

I plan on using this shovel in my car and in the backpack. I didn't expect to give it such an early test, but it got it's chance to prove itself yesterday. Heading out snowshoeing, we got very stuck in Subaru Forester. Pulled out the shovel, and it made quick work of the problem snow ;-) This is a very solid built shovel and in my opinion well worth the price. It allowed me to move a lot of snow quickly and get on with our day!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Good solid shovel
February 21, 2011

The shaft doesn't hold in place when it is in closed position but it feels more sturdy when it's open all the way. The rectangle shaft plus the curve shape makes it a very powerful digging tool. But it would be better if the handle was longer. I'm 5'7", and I had to get on my knees when digging, standing position caused back pain. (I have bad back). I got rough with this shovel, I used it for pounding the snow down and it worked fine. Overall it is still a great shovel , good size, light weight. Price is a little bit steep.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Lightweight and strong
January 10, 2008

This shovel proved to be the ideal tool for our snow camping trip. It's really lightweight and the collapsible handle makes it easy to pack, yet the shovel remained very strong and sturdy. Perfect shovel for making a snow cave, or just clearing an area. Highly recommended.
