Show me the light!
December 26, 2010

Extraordinary quality as expected. Unbelievable brightness. Variable levels levels of brightness to adapt to the situation. Light and easy to wear. Gave as a Christmas present and don't think my stepson has taken it off fro 2 days.

Great All Around Outdoor Light
November 05, 2010

This is an amazing light. I use headlamps for hiking, camping, , backpacking, fishing, cycling, or any other time when I might be outdoors after dark. I'm using this light to upgrade and replace my current outdoor activity lights. I've been using another headlamp that is about 4 years old in combination with a high intensity xenon hand held light that uses two 3 volt lithium batteries. The Icon is all that I hoped it would be. It weighs about 7 ounces and is two ounces lighter than the combined weight of my two current lights. The 3 watt LED is extremely bright. It is as bright or brighter than the high intensity xenon light I have been using plus it has a much greater battery life (85 hours) on the high setting than the xenon light ( 1 hour). There are 7 lighting settings for the Icon. Three brightness settings ( high, medium, low) for the three watt LED and three settings for the 4 LED mode. Plus, the 4 LEDs can be set for a flashing mode (great for an emergency or extra visibility when cycling after dark). With the range of settings and two modes this headlamp works perfectly for those situations when low light is needed (i.e. cooking after dark when backpacking) or when you need a lot of light (i.e. that strange noise on the edge of camp or trying to find an obscure trail on a dark night). I'm also able to use this headlamp on my cycling helmet with some ingenuity. I use a velcro strap to attach the battery pack to the back of the helmet and a plastic zip tie to hold the lamp on the front of the helmet. This works great for road bike tours that may last past sundown. I like the ability to see around me with a turn of the head. The only drawback (depending on your needs) is that the light is a little heavy at 7 ounces. I'm perfectly happy with a light that is a little heavier than some since it has such a great range of light settings and a long battery life.

Dependable and Bright with Excellent Battery Life.
September 25, 2009

Our first headlamps were Halogen lit and were powered by 3 C batteries in the late 90's. It took many different attempts to convince us that brightness over a long distance could be achievable by LED's. I have owned many models and never experienced such illumination while maintaining battery longevity. Truly the best, that is why this is my second of this model. The first one is still in service, I just needed another. You won't be disappointed by the brightness on focus or the softer and wider light options for alternate applications.

An excellent light
October 06, 2009

This is the light to buy: it's VERY bright, long battery life, and durable. As the description notes, you can switch the brightness, and also go for a more focused beam or a wider beam. There's also a strobe-light setting, if you're looking to disco (or signal I suppose). Most people you'll encounter on the trail probably buy one of the Petzl lamps--they are also pretty decent. If you don't mind dishing out $20 more for this one, you'll get a portable spotlight.

Excellent light
December 08, 2010

My wife and I decided to purchase headlamps after a couple of camping trips and doing without. We bought two different brands, not knowing which would be best, but by far this is the better. This lamp has an incredible 'high beam' that is a true spot light and several settings for different lighting needs. We do a lot of hiking and now that it is winter do a lot of night hiking and having this incredibly bright lamp makes the experience even more fun. Not sure what brand others are using but this lamp by far is the brightest that I have seen. I have logged several hours (5 or 6 hrs) already and there is no indication that the batteries are running low (still getting the green batteries are fully charged light on). The lamp is light weight and adjusts to different headgear easily. I have also hiked with it in the rain and have had no problems. Excellent light.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

A GREAT BUY
March 30, 2010

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp This is a two setting no frills LED head lamp. The first setting is a two LED diffuse light energy saving mode for working on stuff within 10 meters the second mode is a beam that will spotlight something over 100 meters away. I have used this head lamp for night rock climbing alpine climbing and spelunking. I have dropped it in water taken it in below 0 temperatures hit it so hard it almost knocked me out and its still works and is brighter than all my buddies lights. It takes AAA batteries and those don't work the best in lower temps. Over all a great buy.

have used the light on two backpacking trips. very bright, well built. During the most recent trip used it to continue hiking for three hours after night fall. the only issue i have is getting the button sequence correct to set the desire lighting mode.

Best Headlamp
December 07, 2010

This one lives on my caving helmet. This is my second one because I left my original one with my guide in Belize and he loves it. Its design is exceptional. The 4 LED's provide adequate light for most caving activitiy, switching to the spotlight when needed to see details in a formation and focus my camera. On this recent trip to Belize, we swam/hiked up a stream for 640 meters inside a cave and those 4 little lights were better than a spotlight for reading the rocks through the water so I could avoid hazzards. I don't feel weight on my helmet like I did with other headlamps. And the light flips up easily when I am focused and ready to take my photo.

Great Headlamp
September 05, 2008

I commute on my bycicle to work every morning while it's dark. So I attached this light to my helmet with velco. I was using a smaller headlamp, but I get going 40mph sometimes on an unlit streat so I needed a headlamp that would give me enough visiblity to avoid obsticles. I am very happy with this light the 3W LED looks like a spotlight.
