You can easily hang the Orbit form from about anything with the dual hook atop the lantern. The Orbit runs on 4 AAA alkaline batteries or the Black Diamond Orbit-specific NRG2 rechargeable battery kit.

great lightweight light
January 03, 2012
This light is amazingly bright, especially considering that it weighs next to nothing. We really like the easy-to-use dimmer feature that allows us to use only as much light as needed to conserve batteries. Best backpacking light I've ever owned!Pros: Performance, Ease of use
Simple yet Extraordinary!

After searching the internet for a lightweight, compact lantern I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It collapses down very well, about by half. This will make a backpacker very happy. The frost on the plastic helps reduce the harshness of LED's. Pros: -Dimmer switch -Compact -Lightweight -Frosted LED -Good value -High lumens for the size -Hangers Cons: -None yet! It's also a great value for the price. The Apollo is a bit more expensive, and in my opinion, not worth the extra cash. I do not own the Apollo, but I would assume you get a lot more bang-for-your-buck with the Orbit. I have not used this on any trips yet (too cold!), but I plan to as soon as it hits 60 degF. It works great in a dark basement so far! I highly recommend this lantern to anyone who goes car camping or backpacking.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Great little lantern/light!!

Excellent backpacking since it is so small but it gives out a lot of light. I really like the dimmer button feature; very useful and it really extends the life of the batteries.

Just finished a seven day kayaking trip camping out each night using the Orbit Lantern. It is so compact and yet did a great job in illuminating the inside of the tent. I really liked the fact that it would dim as well. Definitely worth the money.
Great, compact lantern with dimmer

This lantern was one of the best we could find for it's price. It's very small and light, which is ideal for camping, and it includes a dimmer.
Modest ambient light in a small, light package
April 04, 2011
Let's face it, you're not going to illuminate the entire campsite with this lantern, and you're not going to read a book by it either (unless you hang the lantern off your cap and hold the book a foot from your face). What you do get is a pleasant ambient light that avoids the harsh glare of a headlamp or flashlight while letting you move around the campsite without falling on your face, or organize the tent (or get up in the night) without blinding the rest of your group. It does put out enough light to play cards, although best to have more than one so you can place them behind the players. The weight on this lantern with batteries is 4.7 oz and it fits in the smallest cranny in your pack. I'm attaching a picture showing the Orbit at full brightness - you'll see that the actual sphere of direct light is fairly small. If you want ambient light in a small package that lets you avoid stumbling around the campsite, this is a good choice. If you want a lantern that actually illuminates the campsite (like the good old days when you car-camped with Mom & Dad), step up to one that operates on a fuel canister and prepare to carry more weight as well. I've owned my Orbit a couple of years (I'm still on the original batteries) and have only taken it along a couple of times (when I'm counting ounces, luxuries get left behind). Probably the best recommendation is that the times I did have it, I always used it, although I didn't necessarily miss it when I didn't bring it along.Pros: Great value
Versatile Compact Lantern
September 17, 2011
Although I am not a big camper, I am sure this lantern would work great for any field trip where gear space is limited. I take one on all my adventure travel expeditions. When not in use it remains stored in a handy home location for power outages. This lantern has a great design, it is extremely compact and versatile. I would definitely recommend this lantern anytime you are planning to pack light.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

I just took light to Yosemite National Park, and it worked very well. For its size it produces a lot of light. It fit compactly into the bag and it can be extended to cover more area. I would definitely recommend this product!!!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

We already own two of the "Apollos"(which we love) but needed something more compact also. I was so amazed at the amount of light this little guy produced. It is part of our home emergency backup and will go on all our Colorado adventures. This was a stocking gift for my husband. I will definitely be ordering a second one for myself. You will not be disappointed or ever left in the dark. I suggest you have one in your car, purse, bedside anywhere. Apollos's baby brother does the family proud!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Light it up and go. Strong, Durable, Bright and adjustable.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
Tiny little thing!
June 02, 2011
When i bought i was expecting a larger lantern (yes, my mistake for not reading the dimensions). After initially being concerned, i realized what a great thing it is to have such a small lantern to lug around. Given the lower output (not a substitute for fuel powered units) I've turned it into my storm/disaster recovery light. Easy to grab, tough to damage and runs an awful long time on a single set of batteries.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Great Lantern- Bright or Dim it casts a long shadow
August 05, 2009
What an excellent LED lantern, incredibly bright for its size and weight. I used it outdoors and it [ca-st] enough light to play cards around or find my way to the nearest tree. It also makes an exceptional reading light with the dimming feature. Batteries lasted a good while, but after two week long trips (moderate use) I had to change them. Fortunately, AAA are pretty light.

Love this lantern, small enough to go on any trip and enough light to read by, cook by or whatever you might need. Simple design and construction should last for years.Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value
