Excellent features
July 11, 2011
Love the battery display to check how much juice is left. A bit beefy but worth the weight due to many features like nighttime vision, dimmer, strobe, very bright spotlight. Nice colors- we could each get a different one!
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great valueAlready own the Black Diamond Spot Headlamp? Tell us your thoughts.

This is the second spot headlamp I have bought. The first one disappeared on a trip and I liked it so much I had to go for another. Very nice headlamp, puts out a nice beam at any setting. great for running through the woods at night.

This is the best headlamp that I have ever owned...it is a replacement for the same model headlamp that I lost in the woods of Maine; so either buy yours here or go on a scavenger hunt around Eastern Maine

Camping Must Have
June 06, 2011
I love my Spot headlamp, the LED is extremely bright. Fits comfortably and adjusts easily. I bought it just to use when setting my tent up in the dark, but found it was convenient and comfortable to keep on all night. I can't imagine camping without it!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useDid you recently buy the Black Diamond Spot Headlamp? Write a review.
Don't waste time looking at other models!
May 01, 2010
I just recently had to buy another one since I cracked the case to my original spot headlamp that I've had for the past 5 years! Based on the overall performance....I couldn't buy another model since this has been the best headlamp I've ever owned and it works great for nighttime work (which I do a lot of)due its superb lighting capabilities. The only reason I don't rate it the full 5 stars is due to the way you have to take the case apart to change the batteries. I sometimes feel like I have to push extra hard on the release button and am afraid of breaking it. Overall, if your considering this for a replacement to an old headlamp or looking for a first...I would definitely recommend this model.
Finally the perfect lamp!

The BD spot has the power to light up the trail when hiking and the adjustments to make it last for hours in the tent. Really versatile.
lightweight, 1W LED compares w/ halogen
January 01, 2009
My wife and climber daughter both use the Spot as well as myself. I've always liked halogen bulbs for penetrating the wilderness night when required. A side by side test in the wilderness with an old BD halogen and the Spot's 1Watt LED was fairly close. Add the benefit of the Spot light weight, integrated AAA batteries in the lamp and the inherent low energy consumption of the LED's combination's and you have an excellent piece of ultralight backpacking/climbing gear. I wouldn't recommend this for a constant use headlamp as the construction is rather flimsy. I've read other reviews about the hinge failing; I hold my breath when I change the batteries. The switching tends to get a bit busy with the hi/mid/lo/flashing settings for a total of eight combination's. I don't need that much choice in the woods, hi/lo would be fine.

Super Bright!

Great headlamp! Both the brightness and the distance of the focused beam blows away any other headlamp of a comparable price. I went with the green/camo color and it still looks as new as the day I received it. Use it for hiking, camping, biking, and even used it on an ATV when the original headlamp malfunctioned. THE GOOD: The beam is very bright. The focus allows you to notice the edge of the light field even when directed up into the high tree canopy. The casing and strap are very durable and do not show wear and tear. The housing comes off easily to replace the batteries (unlike some other brands which nearly break your fingernails), but has never opened unintentionally during use or in my pack/pocket (takes 3 AAA batteries, included). Battery life is as good as any headlamp and completely depends upon how you use it. The brightness is adjusted simply by holding the button down and realeasing when you reach your desired brightness. Simply bringing it down of the max brightness saves hours of battery life. Red LED is great for hunting and for use when you don't want to blind those around you. The lock feature saves you from killing your batteries after your lamp is accidentally turned on in your pack. THE BAD: Every time you turn the lamp on after it is off, it alternates between the focused beam and the peripheral light LEDs. This can be annoying when you are relying on one particular light pattern, especially since they are drastically different. However, this is easy to switch by simply hitting the button two more times. The red LED is not as bright as the TIKKA 2 but works fine to get in and out of the woods while hunting or into a tent without waking another sleeper. OVERALL: This is a great headlamp and I definitely recommend!

There is nothing at all wrong with my old one (bought 2006 or so) but I found myself keeping it hanging in my shop for general use (I hardly ever use a hand-held flashlight anymore) and got tired of having to remember to put it in my pack when I headed out for an adventure -- so I got another to keep in my pack I do like the new dimming feature on the new version and the red light works well for those times when I don't want to ruin my night vision but need to see something in the tent etc. I do find it mildly annoying having to cycle through the spot and diffuse beams but I don't think I'd really want two separate switches so I'll just live with it. The battery life is fine for my needs. The spot is plenty bright enough to illuminate a reasonably high speed ski descent on a dark trail for those early season returns to the truck after staying for that one last powder lap. All in all an excellent piece of equipment.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useVersatile Headlamp

The long distance beam was very focused, powerful, and reached far. The short distance wide-beam works well. Nice combination and value.

I am soooo excited to have purchased this new headlamp. This is the 3rd lamp Ive owned, but my first Black Diamond. It can take the place of any lantern to light up the entire camp. I was a bit concerned about the lightweight plastic feel of it, but it is very sturdy. I can shine this baby up into air at night, its like sending out the bat signal! VERY VERY BRIGHT! .I am so happy with this purchase.
Pros: Lasts forever, Ease of use, brightnessPhenomenal!

The Spot is a very high quality headlamp that can be used for a huge variety of activities. I am extremely impressed with how well it has worked for me, especially for the price! This lamp has performed flawlessly in a range of activities from mountain biking to sitting in the tent reading a book. I highly recommend the Spot to anyone that needs an awesome headlamp for a great deal!

After reading the gear review in Packpacker mag, I chose this lamp and I wasn't disappointed. Great beam on any setting, compact size and easy to put the strap on. I had a little trouble putting the batteries in until I read the directions (go figure!) Great lamp, great value!
