5 out of 5

Let's be honest - I read way too many reviews from all sorts of websites when looking for trekking poles. Eventually I bit the bullet and bought these poles. I have zero regrets. The shock absorption is quite noticeable, especially later in my hikes after my joints and muscles start to fatigue. It also gives you just a touch of spring when using the poles to push-off, which is also quite pleasant. These babies are light and are incredibly adjustable to account for when you're climbing steeply, descending sharply... or just sword-fighting your friends while taking a break (probably voids your warranty... be careful!). Oh yeah, - my testing-lab was over 40 miles in the Tetons of Wyoming.

Great Trekking Poles

I bought these for myself and bought the Trail Shock Compact poles for my wife. I have a bunch of Black Diamond gear and have always been impressed with the design, quality and durability of their merchandise. These poles are upgrades from our old Lekis, which were great but I always had difficulty with the internal locking mechanism. The BD flip-lock external locking device is perfect for my needs: simple and very durable. The shock absorbing device in the shaft of these poles works perfectly as well, and I like the extended foam grip below the handgrip. There's nothing I don't like about these poles. Great work, BD!
