Burton Custom Snowboard (Fall 2008):
Redesigned with a wider waist in longer lengths for the big boys,
Burton's Custom remains the delightful detour from conformity. Traditionally experienced snowboarders were forced to make a choice between specialized freestyle and freeride designs, which often limit you to certain parts of the mountain. Burton's Custom Snowboard spans the gap between freestyle and freeride designs without messing up the performance potential for aggressive riders. This season Burton redesigned the width of the 158-cm. and larger Custom boards so bigger riders can enjoy the same versatility. The Custom features Burton's Pro Tip construction that gives the board more of a freestyle twin-tip shape with a light and easy swing weight, but the 10-mm. Back-of-Center-Stance Location locks in the all-mountain potential. It has a proven Super Fly II core, a vertical sandwich of hard and soft woods for minimal weight and better snap. A Carbon I-Beam backbone adds more longitudinal response without bulking up the weight. If you could peer inside the fiberglass construction you would find that the wood grain along the toe and heel edges runs perpendicular to the rest of the wood core in a design called DualZone Edge Grain Direction, a process that elevates edging performance without sacrificing durability. The wood is wrapped in a long layer of Triax fiberglass topped off with two more diagonal layers, resulting in a torsional stiffness that translates to intuitive carving and easy turn initiation. Another nice touch is Burton's new 10:45 Sidewalls, an impact-absorbing edge design that uses two different angles to add strength and performance that lasts through seasons of hard landings.
