CG Chateau Jacket
April 21, 2012
No need more comments on warmth and quality. I would like to say something about the fit. I am 5'9, 155lb, I usually wear size small on Patagonia, but after read all reviews, I got a size large of Chateau. It fits big on me if I only wear a t-shirt underneath, but it's just the way I like. Because it's slim fit, even the size large on me doesn't look bulky. If I wear a pata R4 underneath, it's just perfect. The sleeve a little long, but you can roll up a litte bit and it doesn't look ugly. If you plan to only wear t-shirt, shirt, or thin sweater underneath this parka, then I suggest size medium.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts foreverwarmest jacket in the world

This jacket is PERFECT for those below-freezing days when your butt feels like it's going to freeze off! I like the length of it--it's also super comfy and well-insulated. It's a little bit heavy, but I think it's the warmest jacket in the world. Feels very comfort and good quality. Recommend to you.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great valueanother classy piece from CG

I'll get the "bad" out of the way first: CG seems to have an issue with handwarmer pockets: either they're too small, too high, uninsulated or non-existent. In the case of the Chateau, they're too small. Now with that out of the way, I'd like to say that this is one warm, classy looking coat (jacket would not seem to describe it- my XL is 1487 g., bulky and 36" long from collar base to hem.) So this is a MAJOR parka. Classy because it does not have patch or bellows pockets on the surface as do most CG coats, so it presents a smoother, more citified look. Removable ruff it has (important in many circles). I wear size L in all jackets except CG- you must size up in those identified as "slim insulated fit". I have the CG Constable in "L", but they call that a "regular insulated". Finally, it is not waterproof: it might repel some light rain, but you don't want to get it drenched; all that down inside would need time consuming maintenance. There's no such thing as "cold" when you're wearing this coat.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceReady for a blizzard

Those Canadians know something about cold weather gear! This is a very warm yet fashionable down parka. The material seems very sturdy and it appears well-made (I've worn it only a few times so far, so I reserve judgment on durability). I wear a size 38 and size M fits perfectly. It's snug around the body, as it should be to keep you warm. It's long enough to fit over a blazer or suit jacket, yet shorter than a coat, allowing you to get on a bicycle. Because it's designed for VERY cold weather you will get very warm if temperatures are 33 Fahrenheit / 0 Celsius or above, particularly while riding a bike or walking vigorously. A minor point, but I actually find the coyote fur trim, a signature feature of these parkas, a bit of a pain: Unless you wear the hood (which you would only do in a blizzard), the fur keeps tickling your ears and cheeks. Luckily it zips off. All in all, a nice cold weather coat. Now of course, NY winter seems to be over....
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, looks niceAwesome Parka

I've had the Chateau for a few months now and have to say it's a terrific parka. It's kept me plenty warm in the New England winter so far. Highlights include the slim fit (deemed by Canada Goose). Most parkas look ugly and bulky, this one does not. For reference I got a Large and I'm 6'1", 175 lbs, with an athletic frame. Warmth wise I find the Chateau to be very substantial. I have yet to feel cold when wearing a couple layers under my coat. Don't forget that the proper hat, scarf, and gloves, go a long way in keeping you warm too. Canada Goose is a very reputable brand that's been around for decades. This coat is made in Canada, awesome, and Altrec is an authorized American dealer. Be warned that fake Canada Goose gear is infesting the internet these days, so always buy from an authorized retailer like Altrec. Canada Goose has a list of authorized retailers on their website, Canada (dash) Goose. Some other features I dig. Two fleece-lined side pockets that keep my hands toasty. A chest pocket (fleece-lined too). An internal chest pocket, and real coyote fur on the hood which is incredibly warm and can be pushed forward and back. The fur can also be zipped off if you'd like. Jacket is water repellent, not waterproof. You'll be just fine as long as you don't wear this in the rain (and why would you?). Style wise, this coat just looks awesome and is very formal in dark colors like my black or even brown and navy. What can I say, this coat rules. It's pricey, but a quality parka will last you for many years if you take care of it. And it's money well spent that will protect you from the harsh winter weather. I have to give it my highest recommendation.
