What you'd expect from Carhartt
February 20, 2012
If you've worn Carhartt coats before, then all you need to know is this is more of the same quality and durability that you've grown accustomed to. If you have no experience with Carhartt, here's what you can expect from this jacket: -Construction is second to none. -Durability is incredible. (I still own & use my first Carhartt coat for working in the garage... and it's 14 years old) -Value is exceptional. Relatively low price for outstanding performance. -Sizes run large (I am 6' 175 lbs and wear a M Regular). -Weight is moderate... not a light-weight jacket, but not noticeably heavy either. -Warmth and wind/water-resistance are good (but not wind or water proof). Good with just a t-shirt down to freezing; below 32F you'll want a fleece or sweater underneath. -Large pockets are well-placed with large openings that accommodate wearing gloves. -As another reviewer observed, the shell of this coat is like rhino skin. I wouldn't be surprised if it were tougher. No kidding. However, the downside of that toughness is a stiff, abrasive shell that takes a few months to break in. -The heavy duty velcro used on the front flap will snag less-sturdy fabric if left exposed. (this is more of a warning to be heeded when hugging your special lady while she's wearing a nice sweater... yeah, learned that one the hard way. So keep the front flap closed and you'll be golden. :-) In summary, the Carhartt Extremes Arctic is a durable, affordable coat that's perfectly suited for hard work in cold weather.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value, Cons: initial stiffnessJanuary 03, 2011
This is an excellent coat. Although it is light it is incredibly warm. I can wear this over a t-shirt in 15 degree weather and still be extremely warm.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityGreat value on a great coat!

I already own this coat for a few years and wear it daily come fall & winter. It keeps me warm and wears like iron. Only sparks from the welder and grinding iron have shown some wear on the shell of the coat. I bought 1 from my son who does a lot of ice fishing and am certain it will do a great job of keeping him warm on the ice. Let's not forget it has all the pockets you'll ever need.
Been looking far and wide for this coat at a good price..

I work outside as a bridge inspector and tend to abuse my outerwear. Finding this coat at a good price at the same time turned out to be a sweet deal. I'll keep on looking at altrec for my work gear.
Another great one from Carhartt!

This is my second carhartt coat. Very well constructed and very durable. After reading other reviews, I ordered a medium instead large and it fits perfectly. I also bought the hood. Very warm as well.

This jacket has the skin of a Rhino and the insides of ummm Well, WARM! I have just started buying carhartt things and so far I think the thing that gets me the most is the QUALITY! Quality is REALLY hard to find today and this jacket is pure quality. Look, I am happy to spend what I did for it... it is a low price compared to other winter jackets and for this quality... no kidding... I am happy I got it but I don't understand why it doesn't cost more. OR maybe it is just altrec pricing but needless to say I am very happy with the jacket and also with the friendly service. Because my first jacket didn't fit... returned and got new one no problem. These jackets run a size big I would say.
