Canyoneering, trail running, and approaches to climbs often involve precise foot placement and a desire to feel the terrain underfoot. The Chaco Z/2 sandal provides this added level of performance with a toe loop strap configuration that wraps around the big toe as tightly or loosely as desired. A strap still wraps over the entire forefoot but the addition of a toe loop gives the user that extra measure of control. The Chaco Z/2 men's sandal comes equipped with a Vibram® Unaweep sole, capitalizing on Vibram's industry leading ability to build durable, high traction outsoles for hiking footwear worldwide. Of the many features that make all Chaco performance sandals, not just the Chaco Z/2's, the gold standard for outdoor professionals, the BioCentric™ footbed contour is among the most special. Carrying the seal of acceptance by the American Podiatric Medical Association, this supportive underfoot platform encourages the foot to roll through the stride in a neutral position, keeping pronation to a healthy minimum. The Chaco Z/2 sandal's BioCentric™ footbed also offers a sculpted heel cup that stabilizes the heel and concentrates the fatty pad in the heel to aid its inherent natural cushioning ability.

I bought my first pair of Z/2 Chacos almost 6 years ago and they are still going strong! They have been with me from the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado not to mention many rivers in between! Unfortunately due to weather and work I am not able to wear them everyday but when the summer hits you will not find me in anything but my Chaco sandals no matter what the day brings! If you are worried about dropping a $100 bucks on them DON'T BE! You will not regret it! ! ! I recommend them to everyone I meet!

I have to admit I am in fact a sandal "freak". If it were up to me I would have sandals on all the time but cold weather dictates otherwise. I have never and I mean never allowed anything between my toes, but chaco Z2 anytime. I look foward to these being my #1 sandals.

I have a pair of Z2 with colorado soles for 6 years,there still in pretty good shape.With the toe loop you can do about anything you can do with shoes, hike, bike,I even ride my motorcycle.Just ordered a new pair with unaweep soles,this is the only sandal to buy.

I bought these to replace a pair of Nike sandals that would rub my foot raw when they got wet. The Z/2's strap system secures my foot to a fantastic foot bed that has great support and cushioning. The true test will be walking in Lake Michigan from Rock Island to Washington Island, but that won't be until next year unfortunately.

The appealing thing about this sandal is the security it offers from its variety of straps. It stays comfortably and securely on your foot. So far it has proven to be comfortable. I can not yet speak of its durability but it seems like a solid product.

Comfortable, supportive and easy to put on and adjust, these sandals do it all. For an active sport sandal, these will provide enough traction and support for many adventures.

I wear sandals 24/7 (unless I am barefoot) and day-hike 3-4 miles everyday in them. I have owned Nike, Teva, and Merrell. I was reluctant for years to fork out almost a $100 for sandals, but after getting fed up with these other brands, I have never regretted the purchase (I now buy them on sale when I can). I wear Chacos (model Z/2) exclusively now for the past two+ years and there is no other brand I would even consider for sandals.

I didn't buy the Chacos from Altrec; however, since they're the best pair of sandals that I've ever used, I HAD to rave about them. Their contoured foot bed is amazing and their construction is absolutely durable. I've been to Ecuador, Argentina, and use them everyday during the summer here in Lubbock, TX and they've served me well. My main point, is about their "convertibility." If you're deciding on whether you should get the Z/1 or z/2, may I suggest the Z/2. Why? Because, if you strap down the toe completely, basically tighten to the point where there isn't a place to insert your toe. You "basically" have the Z/1. It's awesome! Now, I'm not sure where the Z/1 positions their straps, but I can't imagine them being that far off from where the Z/2 places theirs. At first, I thought the toe loop to be uncomfortable to walk around in although it does hold your foot in better when you're in white-water; however, for walking about town, it just felt like too much pressure strapped around my toe. So, now I cinch my Chaco's down all the way and voila! comfort city for walking, and can be used for white water again when the need arises.
Mind you though that the strap that is now under my toe "can" be annoying, but if you're not totally Obsessive compulsive about it, you'll be ok. My straps also need shortening now (but they needed them before anyway) so I'm going to find out if I can get them altered locally. Sure, I could send them in to Chaco; however, $20 to get a simple strap adjusted is just too much for me since I got them for half price...

Anonymous - 2006-09-14Great Sandal...sole is not as soft as other brands.
I really am pleased with the purchase (no buyers remorse) and would recommend the sandal to anyone interested. I thought the soles were a little stiff, but certainly not to the point it is uncomfortable. If you are looking for a softer sole...I'd try the Nike Air Deschutz. Both are great sandals.
