UPDATE: Great Customer Service -
Anonymous - 2010-04-07
This parka has everything I look for in a ski shell but be careful when ordering your size. If your shoulders are wider than your waist, order a larger size. I ordered a medium after reading many reviews. The medium would work for a smaller frame. I'm 5'10" 180lbs and the shoulders were too tight, the sleeves were too short, and there was no room to layer. I re-ordered a large and it is perfect. The sleeves are a touch long but do not ride up when extending my arms. Customer service has been excellent so far. I have not received credit on my return yet but will update when complete.......UPDATE:.........I received my re-ordered parka and my credit very quickly. The large parka is a perfect fit. The whole experience has been excellent. Customer service is very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Altrec is a great store.

This is a great jacket for all things winter. Being 6'5" and 290 lbs, I especially like how the sleeves are long and the coat runs large. I've used it for skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and I even walked under a waterfall in the dead of winter and it kept me dry. Can't beat that. Great coat and great value.

Holding Up Well, A Bit Heavy -
Rich Etchberger - 2010-03-11
I have used this jacket quite a bit throughout this winter on snowy days. It is works well and is holding up fine. It is a bit heavy, but has not let me down so far. It seems to run true to size. With the variety of pit zips, etc. you can regulate your temp easily. Overall, I am very happy with it.

Excellant ski shell -
Anonymous - 2010-03-08
This shell worked great for skiing in 15 to 40 degree weather. Lots of pockets for storage. Especially for a large water bottle. The vented sleeves and powder skirt were great. The shell is made of a very durable material. Held up well in the trees!

Not a great jacket -
joe b - 2010-03-01
OK, I bought this jacket last year and loved it....for a year. After 1 year, the material is balling up like a cheap sweater. The jacket had been worn maybe 50 times, not alot given the normal durability of MH gear. I sent the jacket back to MH and they offered me a credit for the MSRP price. Problem is that the prices here are far less and now I can't get another jacket unless I downgrade or pay way more than retail. VERY dissapointed in MH waranty program. May be the last MH product I buy.

Bulletproof Heavy Winter Shell -
Brad Roberts - 2010-02-07
This jacket is my cold winter shell and keeps the elements at bay very well. The material is bomb-proof and it breathes very well. The pockets work with a pack (although the entry could be bigger for gloved hands). Extra long cut for parka feel. Put a lofty insulation layer underneath and this jacket is quite the waterproof breathable winter parka at a bargain price.

A seriously rugged jacket! -
Stephen - 2010-01-20
This shell preforms very well in wet, windy, and cold weather. I have worn it
in cold rain, heavy snow and at subzero temperatures and it has kept me dry, warm and comfortable in each situation. As far as the sizing of this jacket... I'm 5'9, 165 lbs and the small fits me very well and still allows plenty of room for layering underneath.

Excellant, durable, good for layering -
Glenn R. - 2010-01-06
Overall excellent quality as expected from MH but definitely intended for layering. Not a bad thing, just a medium size was cut a little larger than I might usually wear. Good fit through the sleeves and the collar is as it looks in the pics - stands up high but when needed, that's a good thing!

A real classic with a loyal following. -
Eric Wickmann - 2009-12-08
I worked for a national outdoor gear retailer for several years and the MH Exposure II Parka was one of the hard shell jackets which customers came back to buy after owning their first one for as many as 5-7 years. "I see a few changes, but it has performed for me beautifully" were the usual comments. A lot of the users were wearing this in the backcountry, where the longer length, powder skirt, and abrasion resistant outer shell come in handy. This jacket also has a proven Conduit(TM) laminate for durable, waterproof, breathable performance. There are other brands out there that sell all this of performance for much more money.

So far...so excellent!!! -
D.J. from IL - 2009-10-29
This shell parka is great so far!!! I'm 6'3" and even with a 39" sleeve length, the XXL sleeves are the right size. My favorite part is that the pockets are big and everywhere. At the ball game last weekend, my son wanted me to hold his drink and I just dropped the bottle in the interior mesh pocket.
So far I haven't worn the coat in any extreme weather but I'm sure that with a sweatshirt or fleece underneath I'll stay dry and warm.
A few co-workers who are familiar with the Mountain Hardware brand were surprised that I was able to get the coat for less than a similar North Face. It was an outstanding price since I bought the dk. brown (espresso) color for about $150 with FREE shipping! I noticed that now there is only one size left.
AMAZING COAT & PRICE!

Fantastic shell! -
Anonymous - 2009-09-22
I was looking for a good jacket for our cold winters here in MN. Someone suggested this jacket combined with a thick fleece (like the North Face Denali). I bought this shell and an army surplus 300 weight polartec fleece and it couldn't be warmer! Without the fleece it also functions as a colder-weather light jacket. I'm very pleased :)

This is the first mountain hardware product I have owned. I bought it for bass fishing, Yesterday it was cold, low 40's all day, windy and the fog was thick. The jacket worked great. The test was 70 mph across the lake and it worked. This is my new fishing jacket.

Karla Broers - 2008-12-28
Received this jacket just in time for a winter storm complete with freezing rain. Wore a liner underneath and stayed warm and DRY. I am a 5' 10" gal and buy men's jackets to get the arm length I need. (And also because it's hard to find a women's jacket that's as worried about function as it is about being "stylish") This jacket has a substantial, sturdy feel without being overly bulky. The arm length is perfect and the sleeves don't pull up on your arms when you're active.
I have ordered from Altrec multiple times and this was the first time I had a problem with an order--one of my items was out of stock and didn't ship, but I wasn't informed and my card was charged for the item. When I called Altrec customer service they were wonderful. This is the kind of mix-up that can happen to any business, but that has the potential to loose a customer. Instead, thanks to the wonderful customer service team, I still feel absolutely confident ordering from you and recommending you to others. Thanks Altrec!

This is a very well though out parka. Everything worked for me except the length. I am 6' 4" and the XL was a bit too short. The material is great and the design is fantastic especially the hood and I loved the long sleeves. I had to return the XL but will probably end up buying the XXL. The service of this company is great. Because of the service, I will definitely be back as a customer.

This is my 1st Mountain Hardware jacket and it is great. After reading the reviews from other shoppers and getting a great price, I am very happy with the purchase. I spend a lot of time overseas in rough areas and have chosen this over my more expensive issued gear. Great pockets, great seams, zippers and draw strings, tough material, but fairly lightweight. Plenty of room to wear layers and has a great hood. I will buy another Mountain Hardware jacket! Shipped fast and great customer service from Altrec!

This is my 2nd Mountain Hardware jacket and I love it! After reading the reviews and getting a great price I am very happy with the purchase. I had put the jacket in my closet thinking I wouldn't be wearing it that much now that it had warmed up here (North Carolina) but the next day it poured down cold rain. So I wore it out that night and was nice and cozy and dry! Great pockets, great seams, zippers and draw strings, tough material, but fairly lightweight. Plenty of room to wear layers and has a great hood. I will buy another Mountain Hardware jacket! Shipped fast and great customer service, thanks Altrec!

B. Whaler - 2008-01-29
Nice and tough. Have used as a heavy rain jacket and also as a light super cold jacket. Its sort of in between weights so it can be used for just about everything.
I normally wear an XXL but in this jacket in xl is perfect except for the sleeves. I fact the sleeves of this jacket are the only thing I don't like. First of all they are too narrow, so its hard to layer. The second fault is the pit zippers are stiff, I always feel them when they are closed. It would also help it the pit zips unzipped from the opposite direction. The last problem is with the sleeve length, they are just too long. I normally take shirts with a 38 inch sleeve, yes I'm a monster size person, but the sleeves on this XL are about an inch to inch and one half too long.
These grips aside, I love this jacket and have been wearing them for several years and they still look like new.
Thanks for reading and keep on climbing up.

Mountain Rose - 2008-01-05
Pockets & features suitable for a variety of outdoor winter activities from skiing to winter hiking. Have been looking for a comparable women's jacket and can't find one with the features I want (lots of pockets for layering up/down on a winter hike). Sleeves still a bit long and hip synch cord sits lower on the waist (men's torso). They should make this same parka in women's sizes. For outdoor high adventure sports, would choose function over look any day. Hence Men's XS will have to do until these companies realize there's a market for women who want durable, functional gear like men.

Great parka wears like iron -
Clarence - 2007-03-05
Perfect for wet-weather and winter mountaineering. For those looking for wearable tent, this handily fits the bill. I use this in the PAC NW with the shell alone, or with additional layers and found the fit and movement accommodating. Little details like the fleece lining in the pockets, glove loops on the sleeve, the stowable hood and the secure drawstrings justify the expense for the parka. I found the longer sleeves are an advantage on those occasions when one has to remove their gloves, as it helps reduce exposure. As with any piece of equipment there is a tradeoff with performance price and weight. The performance is certainly there, however those choosing weight over price should look elsewhere.

Great Jacket and well worth the money. -
Free Rex - 2007-01-29
MH can produce some mighty slick looking jackets for men. The Exposure II Parka is just another in my long line of collecting Mountain Hardware jackets that I am not disappointed in. I have used mine in blinding rain, snow and just about anytime any dampness is in my environment. It performs fantastic. The pockets are laid out well, the vents offer all the options you would expect, and the adjustments available on the hood and entire jacket cannot be improved on very much. I have only one somewhat MAJOR complaint and is has nothing to do with the performance, just the function..... For all the money I spent on this jacket as well as a MH Windstopper Tech jacket, and a MH Sub-Zero jacket.......None of these will ZIP INSIDE my Exposure II as do most any of the North Face outer shells! Very disappointing in that respect.... This is the only big disappointment and I have really no other complaints at all about the jacket.... If that is no big deal to you (zip other MH jackets inside the Exposure II) , then this jacket absolutely rocks....You will not be disappointed....RFree

Awesome for Skiing and Winter Sports -
Ryan Ellis - 2007-01-29
I bought this jacket primarily for an extended ski and winter sport trip to Jackson Hole, WY I am going on in a few months. I tried the jacket out this weekend on the slopes and I was quite impressed with how warm and wind resistant it is. It was one of the coldest days of the year with a -5 wind chill and snow falling all day and this jacket held up great. I had 2 thin layers on underneath and didn't get cold once. I especially liked the longer sleeves to put over my gloves along with the Velcro fasteners. The hood was key and the powder skirt is great for wind protection. Great deal, awesome value and quality brand.

Great Looking Jacket. The Pit zipps are somewhat stiff. Great Jacket to stand up to the Noreasters. It is longer than my NF Mountain light and tougher material. I was always affraid of snagging the ML but not the MHW Expousre II. The jacket could use a litte more room in the arm pits. I wear it with the MHW windstopper and it keeps me warm. All in all a great jacket.

David Schill - 2006-12-07
I have only had this jacket for a few months, but have already taken it on three winter hikes. It fit well and kept me warm and dry in 70mph winds with both snow and rain. I have owned a few different shells, but so far this is the nicest I have owned. It is not that light, but for the money it is well worth the extra weight. I have long arms, so the extra arm length and the problem with the pit zips was not an issue. So far the only issue I have had is with the hood. The velcro tabs do not hold the hood in place securely. I would like to see a removable hood, button tabs, or something else. Either way, I did not buy the jacket just to wear around town...

When I first received my Mountain Hardware (MHW) Exposure II, I tried it on and thought it had a very large fit. I always wear XL, but this felt real roomy. After I went hiking with with a fleece shirt under it, I was very impressed how MHW put the extra room in this jacket. It is sooo comfortable to wear, I hate to take it off. It breathes great and is waterproof. I can reach and climb without the cuffs riding up my arms or exposing my mid-section to the cold. Great coat!!

Love the Men's Exposure II Parka -
D. Klecka - 2006-06-20
Was looking for a suitable jacket for outdoor activities and for coaching. The Exposure II Parka is outstanding for the unpredictable weather in the Midwest. The Conduit fabric keeps you dry and warm through rain and windy conditions. The length of the jacket covers more of your body, which is an added benefit. The overall coverage and design of the hood is outstanding versus other jackets that I have worn. Sleeves tend to be a bit tight, but then I wasn't looking for a large bulky jacket. The actual price is a bit high, but did find the jacket at a discounted price.

I have a ratty old Gore-Tex jacket, and I wish I had replaced it with this Exposure II long ago. It is very well built, and looks like it will last a long, long time. I has already proven its worth in some significant rain and wind, and it was perfect.
The only downside is that it's a little heavy. But the "breathability" seems good, and I have no problem with the weight because it's put to such good use.
Highly recommended.

The finest jacket I have ever bought, worn and pushed to the limits. This jacket has stood the test of time, too. Purchased new in 1994, I have NEVER had a single problem with this shell, until the zipper finally broke, over ten years later. It has bombed chutes, glades and below zero cruisers year-in, year-out. You will NOT be disappointed! The coat has actually dropped in price since 1994. It was a $300 coat then. You can buy it from an official Mountain Hard Wear dealer for $200 today. Can't be beat.

A great coat with thoughtful pocket designs and a great water repellency. Conduit is light enough for the spring, but layered, it makes a great shell for the slopes. I recommend using Revivex to recreate the DWR finish at least once a season. The Napoleon pocket is perfect for a camera or Ipod. A great deal for the money!

I don't think it's possible to ever be cold again. -
Donovan - 2005-11-14
When i first took this coat out of the packaging i didnt think it was going to be worth what i paid for it, but with the under layer beneath it this coat is quite possible the warmest most secure thing i have ever put on. There's almost a vest inside of the parka that you can button and velcro up to keep the wind from coming up inside your jacket and the pit zips, while strange, are extremely useful. I was never a big fan of hoods, but it's there if you want it. It doesn't insulate quite as well as a hood should but i just wear a hat.
Completely waterproof.
This thing is like a space suit without the weight and the oven like quality where you sweat all over yourself.
Chicago winters are going to have to be pretty brutal to make me feel anything.

I have been slow to convert to MH as the cost is a little high compared to some other products, however, I have never been disappointed in anything I have purchased. My Exposure II parka has been a great addition to my gear bag as I spent quite a lot of time outside. It has a great fit and keeps me warm and dry with an emphasis being placed on the dry. It is great by itself or with a layer and has stood up to the wear and tear of heavy use. I promise that you won't be let down by the Exposure II.

Warm, good quality, and light weight -

This is a very good quality, light weight and warm jacket. It fits very well. It works great in the rain, the bill on the hood keeps the water out of my face very well.

Great product...great price! -
E.J. Zimmerman - 2005-09-05
I recently began purchasing outdoor gear from Altrec and have become a convert. This Mountain Hardwear shell is a premier product and I couldn't be happier with the price (unless of course it was a gift). Service has been first rate also.

Love It -
Glenn Sveum - 2005-03-18
I love this jacket. There is no way that I am going to pay $400+ for a shell. I like the $200 price tag much better. I think the durable weave is excellent. I have yet to get wet or let down in any way. My only concern is in reading a few of the reports about the longevity of the DWR? I trust MH did their research before offering a DWR to challenge Gore -Tex. I don't like paying $100 extra on an item or more JUST for the Gore name. I am willing to give Conduit a try. So far I love it.

One tough, great looking shell -
Anonymous - 2005-01-29
After looking at many shells, I bought this one and couldn't be happier. I live in Chicago, so a lightweight shell is out of the question when the temp drops to 5 and the wind is blowing. The Exposure II is a great piece of gear for the northern climes. The DWR finish has held up nicely so far and it layers well, even with the mesh lining. Apart from its great performance, it looks great as well. There is some cachet that accompanies a Mountain HW that isn't found with North Face and definitely not with Columbia. I'm no fashionista, but the Exposure II looks sweet. However, its performance is what makes it one of my favorite bits of gear I've ever owned.

Form and Function -
Teddy Krolik - 2005-01-14
This jacket looks great, but unlike some other jackets I tested, the Exposure II is concerned with more than just its fashionable appearance. From the fleece-lined hand warmer pockets to the easy-to-use pit zips, the jacket design is terrific. Though others complain about its weight, this is not a jacket only to be used for summer rain showers; I like that the jacket can take a beating in the snow, yet still be vesatile enough for most of the rest of the year.

Great jacket! I've just got back from a 70 mile trip through the smokies on the AT. While in the jacket the wind was non-existant, rain bounced off me, and no clamyness at all while putting in 15 mile days.

Awesome parka...tough as nails -
Chris Wheless - 2004-11-27
This parka is just plain awesome!! It will stand up to briars, sticks, rain, falling down and all kinds of other abuse, too. It breaths very well and the hood is very adjustable. Some people say that it's a little heavy (maybe if you're a todler) but I don't agree. I suggest buying this parka if you are considering it.

Excellent all-around parka -

I love the MH Exposure II parka. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I own several waterproof shells but the MH Exposure II parka is my favorite. I'm one of those who prefer a heavier, more durable jacket to ward of the elements and this one certainly fits the bill. It's also really sharp looking. I've always liked MH designs and colors. This parka will last forever.

Conduit is cheaper than goretex and mountain hardwear makes solid gear - those are a couple of reasons why I settled on the exposure II. From a deluge in the San Juans to white-out conditions on Evans, this jacket has left nothing to be desired - uh - it is a bit heavy and it runs large. Did i mention that it is tough as a damn coffin nail?

Bombproof jacket! I've had it for a little over a year, at it has gone through the most skiing I've ever done in one season (and was just as good the last day as the first). The pit zips are great for the days where the mornings are cold but then warm up in the afternoon. Excelent jacket!
