While the Columbia Descender Shoe for men was intended as a walk-off climbing/bouldering shoe, the versatile features and support make it a popular multi-sport shoe both in and out of the backcountry. Whether you keep it in your ascent pack or wear it in the shopping mall, you'll appreciate the traction of the blended high-traction rubber and Omni-Grip® sticky rubber throughout the sole. Columbia even added a rear carabineer loop in case you need to clip your Men's Descender Shoe to the outside of your climbing backpack.

  • Upper material: Closed cell mesh with micro-suede overlays to enhance support and stability
  • Single-density, compression-molded Techlite™ foam midsole for cushioning
  • Internal TPU shanks for torsion control
  • Blended high-traction rubber and Omni-Grip® sticky-rubber for durability and climbing traction
  • Convenient carabineer loop near heel

good trail runner
December 29, 2011

Light, not overly padded and breathable upper makes this a good trail runner for me. Sizing is a little small. I got a 12 and they fit the same as an 11.5 in Saucony and Zoots. The sole is not very aggressive, but sticky on rocks. The best part is the rocker which is very aggressive. Reminds me of my mountaineering boots. It isn't the most comfortable when standing around because the toes are curved up, but it makes running on the toes easier then my other running shoes. Overall a pretty good shoe.

Mr. Green Shoes
April 03, 2012

Opening up the box I was surprised at 2 things: the weight of the shoes (very light) and the pronounced upward curve of the toe. I'm guessing it serves some purpose, just not sure what it is. Very comfortable in my initial wearing and found them to be pretty firm also during some short runs around the neighborhood. Not enough miles in them yet to know about how they'll hold up. Looking forward to logging more miles in these babies. Oh yeah: the green color looks great!

Amazing camp/ warm down shoe
September 18, 2011

The quality of this shoe is surprisingly good for being ultra light. They wight 10oz less than my Teva water sandals, so these replace those as my camp shoes. Extremely comfortable and I really appreciate the soft suede tongue and sock-like fit after a long trek. The Techlite soles are really light and nice, but can't comment on durability yet. Each shoe has a small carabiner loop near the heal to attach to a pack or you can use the big ring in the tongue. Love them and they seem true to size. The only problem I see is messing them up in camp or on a climb, because they really do look great as an "around town" shoe.

Pros: ultra lite, comfortable, stylish, better than flip flops!
