Cheap fleece jackets always seem warm in the heated still air of a retail store, but you don't know how well your insulating performance will work until you step outside--unless you have this Columbia Thermarator™ Fleece Jacket for men. Unlike traditional fleece apparel, the Men's Thermarator™ Fleece Jacket has Columbia's innovative Omni-Heat® thermal reflective lining, a special lining material made up of tiny foil dots that help reflect heat back at your body. In most studies Columbia found that their Omni-Heat® thermal reflective lining was at least 20% warmer than conventional fleece outerwear. Columbia made their Men's Thermarator™ Fleece Three-point Interchange compatible, so you can fit this jacket inside a compatible Columbia waterproof/breathable shell for full weather protection. The Men's Thermarator™ Fleece is a popular layering piece for skiers and snowboarders, although campers and flyfishing enthusiasts also appreciate the insulating warmth on cool summer mornings and evenings.

LL Bean Thermarator Fleece
January 10, 2012

Ok, so I just got this. I replaced an Eddie Bauer which I lost somewhere for a second time. I haven't washed this fleece yet. However, it does have great warmth characteristics. The fit is better than the fleece I replaced. It is more normal rather than tight like EB. It seems to do well in wind, although it wasn't that windy when I skiied the other day. Bottom line is that I am well pleased with this product

You can not be this versatile jacket for the price and quality of a a Columbia jacket. Will work well as a stand alone jacket or a base layer jacket under a parka or wet weather top.

Great jacket
May 03, 2012

Stylistically, this is a wonderful fleece jacket! The weather got too warm for me to wear it yet, but I can't wait to throw it on soon. I'm 6'3''/200lbs and a large fits me perfect. I was hesitant, at first, about purchasing a large because I generally like a fitted look; I have wide shoulders and a slim waist. The large was the right choice though in the shoulders, length, and overall cut.

Heat reflector and cold conductor
January 30, 2012

This fleece is not wind proof or even wind resistant. I was looking forward to wearing this fleece and the day I did wear it I regreted it. I like the omni-heat idea and I own several omni-heat items but unless my physics memories fail me aluminum is also a good conductor of cold. This fleece could benifit from a membrane or some type of bonded wind screen to this fabric. Yes omni-heat does reflect heat back but when the wind cuts trhough the fabric all the little dots become conductors of cold and stop reflecting heat. I wore this on a very windy day in Chicago it was about 39 degrees and every time the wind gusted, it cut right through the fleece the dots would actualy become uncomfortably cold. This is a nice insulating mid-layer or a outer-layer in mild conditions. The fit was good and the workmanship was excelent qaulity the fit was a little athletic. This Jacket could be amazing if they made it more wind resistant. I wore this under my hard shell in 29 degree weather and was very comfortable. The cold wind just saps all the heat away as it cuts throught the fabric and then the dots start cunducting the cold that passed through the fleece. This time the technology works against you.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Low performance
