I ordered this Columbia jacket for Christmas I would like to mention that altrece shipped fast I was impressed. I have owned several Columbia jacket through the years.I like their affordability versus the quality when compared to other top name brands. Columbia is second to none at a usually lower price than a comparable product .I like this brand is very warm and very fit to me. Because I am 5'6 153lbs.this is my favorite.

Great Parka

My first columbia jacket and I'm impressed. Omni heat is not just a fancy name but is a fully functional technology. It actually does regulate your temp and keeps you comfortably warm.

Great Multi-use jacket
November 23, 2011

I have looked at quite a few "longer-length" jackets and this perfectly fits the bill! Love the inner lining the zips out for a great light jacket, too. Most important to me was the waterproofing and I can attest that after a Nor'Easter, I would use the outer shell as a rain jacket in any condition.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, Cons: color pattern

Columbia is Warm...
December 29, 2010

I was a little skeptical about this jacket and it's omni-heat technology...but not any more. Bottom line is this jacket is super warm. I live in NYC, and we just got 24" of snow this week, Now this jacket has become my new best friend. It has kept me really dry and really warm in and out of the snow. It even withstands the 55mph blizzard winds we got. The jacket is an exact fit, So use the sizing chart correctly. It fits me snugly ( I am 5'8 and medium build and I got the medium ) which helps keep the heat in and the cold out. You could even wear this jacket with just shortsleeve shirt on in the snow and still be warm. If your looking for A warm, comfortable, Durable parka look no further. You won't regret purchasing this jacket.

Warm Winter Coat
January 04, 2010

I bought this coat for these cold Ohio winters. The coat is warm, the hood is nice size and it has plenty of pockets. I am right at the border line of medium and large size. If you want to layer, go with the large as the medium is a snug fit if you are like me.

Great 3 in 1 jacket
August 31, 2011

This jacket is worth every penny. The heat technology is amazing even without the outer shell. The snow band inside is easy to use. The only negative would be the hood. Need a better place to store it. Awesome Jacke, very happy with it.

Pros: heat technology, 3 layers are nice, Cons: hood compart needs to better

This replaces a much beloved Whirlibird that was lost. My only complaint is that I couldn't get the same color scheme as my original parka. The parka is well crafted with many features such as zippers under the armpits that make this a great parka for the serious skiier. Than ks.

Solid Purchase
March 11, 2012

This is a really great coat. I bought it for Northwoods winters and it gets the job done. I have used it for trekking, skiing, winter camping, and just casual wear. All of these endeavours have been tacled with ease using wither the shell, the liner, or a combination of both. I am 5'10" and 165 lbs and the Medium fits perfectly.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Performance, Cons: Cost

Excellent Ski Parka
January 09, 2012

My son bought a Whirlibird parka last year and raved about how warm it kept him while skiing - he generally gets cold while skiing. Also, the fit and weight of the parka was excellent - his size was L. Therefore, I bought a Whirlibird parka this ski season. It was sized right and feels good on - I wear an XL. I like the omni heat material because you stay warmer and it slides on the clothes I wear under the parka - easy to ski in!!!

Excellent Buy
December 27, 2011

Columbia Men's Whirlibird Parka is a very warm versatile parka. I am 5' 11" 185 lbs and the Large was a perfect fit. Was pleased to find the Color skeem for Sea Salt, White/ Red/ Black, is actually better/brighter in person than the Grey/Orange/Black depicted on internet pictures. I use the Whirlibird Parka for skiing and it's find it far warmer than my old waist length ski coat, yet no real compromise in flexability. Although Parka is relativly heavy, Omni heat Liner can be removed or even used by-itself, offering quite a bit of added utility and versatility. Overall, I am quite happy with the Performance and Quality of the Parka, and cannot say enough about Altec's Price and Service. Recieved email confirmation of transaction with an accurate anticipated delivery date, which was then followed up with a tracking email. Highly recommend.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, Cons: heavy when using liner

Awesome Jacket
February 19, 2011

I think this jacket is one of the best designs I've ever seen. It was very difficult to find in stock, especially in the colors I would prefer. It was worth the wait. Its extremely warm, light, not puffy and keeps you dry. You can tell how good of a jacket it is when its sold out on a regular basis. I do recommend that you go a little larger than normal. The sizes tend to run a little on the small side, other than that everything else was well worth the money and then some. By the way, I had a great experience with Altrec as well. They were very helpful and had a great price.

Great Ski Jacket!
February 28, 2009

I am very happy with this product. The jacket lives up to the great reputation of the brand name. I had a warm but bulky older type ski jacket and this one seems to keep me just as warm but without the extra bulk. There is very little restriction in movement and I like the elastic under with the longer cover so it doesn't ride up while you're skiing. I highly recommend it.

Great price

This coat kept me warm, at thirty below zero. Great jacket, warm as can be. The best jacket I've ever worn. Comfortable. Excellent would pay far more for other brands for the same quality.

Features without the bulk
February 17, 2010

I was looking to replace a 10 year old jacket that was good for 30 degrees and below, but without all the bulk of the old one. This jacket is well made and very light. After several hours outside in 20 degree weather, I never felt cold, but I knew it was cold out when the inside of the jacket touched bare skin. This is probably due to the polyester material used on the liner. A fleece liner would eliminate that. All-in-all, a very nice jacket at a reasonable price that is loaded with features that were reserved for the rich and famous ten years ago.

Excellent Product/Great Value
January 30, 2010

I got the Green Jacket for Christmas and LOVE it! It is very warm! The shell & liner are very well constructed. Features are well implemented and the slim fit is not at all bulky. My favorite feature is the ability to wear individually or altogether. Combine that with the interchangeable waypoint fleece and its unstoppable.

awesome jacket
November 21, 2011

This jacket is awesome! Best cold weather jacket I've ever purchased. The omni-heat layer is everything it's advertised to be. I purchased this specifically for warmth because my job took me to several very cold locations this winter. The interliner goes in my backpack and the outer liner in my suitcase, as soon as I get to my destination it's easy to put them together and brave the elements. I've been to CO, MI, DC, PA and OH so far and been warm despite the very cold winter of 2011. I did have to exchange my first one because of a sizing issue but I received full credit and my second order was shipped quickly.

Great Ski Coat
December 27, 2010

I ordered this jacket specifically for skiing. Used it recently and it kept me warm and dry as it snowed for 3 of the 4 days I was skiing in Colorado. The fit is just what I was looking for, not bulky and not heavy. Plenty of pockets and the hood was easily detatched. I wear a medium jacket and this fit perfect. It looks great, both the shell and the liner, if worn seperately - I will also use this jacket for fishing on those cold/wet winter days on the water. Great product by Columbia.

Great Coat
December 22, 2010

Coat arrived promptly and in good condition. It is slightly smaller than my old coat of same size but that was not a problem. It is comfortable and very warm. I also like how it looks. It is somewhat pricey but considering I will likely get many years out of it, I believe it is worth it. I have had the coat almost a month and wear it daily.

Coat looks great. Fits small and very tight under arms. I am going to try the next size up.

Good Jacket / Priced right
December 17, 2008

So far this jacket has faired well in inclement weather. The insulation is nice and warm and attaches to the shell very well, you barely know its detachable liner. Style is very nice and pockets and velcro take care of all the tricks. I havent had a problem with the hood detaching yet, despite hearing complaints on other reviews. For the price, you can not get a better deal. Columbia makes an awesome product.

Excellent coat
December 05, 2011

This coat is great. The outer shell is waterproof and very warm. Its a little bit large, but not too large to wear by itself. The inner shell is very warm, but a little short, although not too short to wear by itself. I recommend detaching the coats from each other even when wearing them together. This prevents you from feeling restricted. Neither coat is hot though, so in mild or cold weather you feel comfortable. All in all, this coat met my expectations. If you are trying to choose between brands, I tried on all of the brands at the store, and columbia beat them all by a fair margin. It was the most comfortable fit, the highest quality, it also had the best features (the best inliner, omni-heat -- which is totally awesome). Also, because I bought it on Altrec, I got it at a great discount, which is another reason to recommend Columbia, because Altrec almost never discounts TNF gear, so I saved like 25 dollars. If you are trying to decide whether to get this coat or a more expensive Columbia 3 in one jacket, I tried out this and one of the more expensive ones, and didn't notice a huge difference.

Pro; This is a super warm jacket. Very light also. Much more comfortable than the North Face jackets I had tried on. Cheaper too. Cons; Should not have chosen sea salt (white). It tends to pick up a lot of dirt.

good value
December 29, 2007

After trying this jacket I was happy to find that it is a very nicely made product. However there are a couple of design omissions, which I found slightly disappointing . And one minor design flaw. First, there is only one upper outside pocket (left side). Second, because of itÂ’s roomy cut, it would be nice if it had a center draw string. And third, there is only one snap on the collar wind flap which dose not hold it securely against the neckline. (I am going to have a tailor put on a peace of Velcro to fix the problem.)

Great Product Geat Services.

This jacket is awesome. Altrec customer support was excellent, believe spoke with Maria. Had to replace for smaller size, no questions asked.

Worked Great
January 13, 2010

First time out was five hours in fresh snow with the temp. in the teens. Three of us were walking standing and kneeling down taking pictures. Was not cold nor did I feel too bulky. We plan a 8 day trip to several Nat'l parks next.

very warm jacket
February 24, 2011

I just got this jacket and tested it outside at 20 degrees. It is very warm and very comfortable. I would highly recommend this jacket to my friend. It is worth the money to buy it because of the quality is nice and the material which Columbia is very soft and smooth. The jacket isn't heavy at all and it is kindda light weighted comparing to the jackets at the same class. I love it so much. I believe you have to check on the sizes because mine fit a little bit larger, and I believe I have to get a one size smaller.

Beautiful jackets!

The white Whirlibird is just beautiful I have the white)! The liner is so soft and warm, not at all bulky. Shell and liner together SO WARM. Impervious to wind (haven't had a big rain yet). LOVE IT!

Great Jacket
November 27, 2011

This is a great jacket. "Abyss" (Columbia Navy) is the second color that I have bought in this model. I bought a white one (last year they called white "Sea Salt") and I have to be careful getting it dirty so the "Abyss" color works great for everyday use. This year it looks like they changed the "Sea Salt" color to a light shade of grey though so do not be afraid of it! LOL Anyways, after much research this is the best jacket out there for all around use, you will be very happy with your purchase! You might even go back for another color too!!!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, style, Cons: none

Excellent coat
January 28, 2011

This coat is excellent. I've owned it for approximately 1 weeks and I have yet to find a flaw. The omni heat keeps me warm without making you hot and sweaty. Recently I walked to class in -5 degree wind chills and 20 mph winds and I was perfectly content. I highly reccomend buying this product.

Got this coat about 2 months ago, then it got really cold around here. It's been awesome, it maintains the warmth and resists the bone chilling winds. The lining in the hood is a neat feature which keeps your ears warm. The material on the chin is nice too. It's the best coat I've bought so far. Another plus is the inner coat, which is lightweight and great for those milder days

The price-quality ratio on this jacket is exceptional. The parka has kept me warm and dry in the snow, ice, and rain. Great jacket!
