truly waterproof & very cute
November 06, 2011

Generally , I'm very happy with this purchase. I ordered a green M. I'm 5'5'', 125lb. It fits well. A little bit loose, but that's I was looking for, since I could add several layers underneath, but I guess SM could be OK for figure like mine. My main purpose is to find a robust rain coat in midwest, which is also against the strong wind. This rain coat works amazingly so far. It is exactly what is described, absolutely WATERPROOF. It also does well against strong wind in Chicago. I only wish the hood could be a little bit larger to cover my face more. The sleeve covers almost all my hand. That's nice protection in rain. I was considering order a black one at first, but green color turned out pretty cute too! I recommend this rain coat. This is my first purchase with Columbia/altrec. I would like to try more. I genuinely expect this coat works for at least several years for a not very rich student like me.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Perfect for travel
April 20, 2011

This was the perfect selection for travel and well as dog walks, and shopping trips in the to put it to the real test on a recent visit to a friend in Ct. with flood watches blaring from the weather channel. Took my old dog with me who needs frequent bathroom breaks so had a chance to put this coat to the test many times. With the hood up, no rain got through except at the cuffs where the wind blew up my sleeves. It fits small...I usually take a small or extra small (5'3". small build) but had to order a medium. VERY lightweight and easily packable. Long enough to cover to mid thigh. Definitely would recommend.

May 11, 2011

Very good gift for my wife, she needs something to protect from the rain in his travels, that is long, but stylize your figure without doubt that this jacket has that protects from rain and can use their work clothes without problems, also is very compact and easy to store. If you want to win a smile on the face of your wife, think.

Columbia Women's Compass Course Shell Grp
October 16, 2011

I'm happy with my purchase. I've already gotten some good comments on the way it looks too, which is an added plus. I was unsure of the blue online but it was cheaper than the other colors. Unfortunately the jacket hasn't gotten a ton of action yet; but the 3 or 4 times I've used have gone well. Looks: It's not too frumpy because of the waist drawstring, which can be pulled to add a bit of shape. The blue turned out to be quite pretty and different and the length adds a bit of a stylish look to it. Carrying convenience: It is very compressible and I can roll it into a small bundle and fit it into my tote or purse. It's very light so it's not a pain to carry on days where I'm not sure if there will be rain. Quality/Durability: It's thin, which is good for the compressibility but I worry a little about how easily it could tear or fall apart. Some layer of the "plasticky" lining has already peeled a bit in the pocket and so I am trying to be careful with it. Function: It kept me dry, and I wore it on a very hot rainy day (85 degrees and a thunderstorm) and I actually didn't find it to be terribly breathable so I was soaked from sweat on the inside. I'm okay with that though because the day was weirdly hot and humid. It was pretty good against the wind too, and I wore it on top of a thin tshirt in 50-degree weather, and it did a reasonable job of making me not freeze. (This is a plus; I get cold very easily). I had several weird particular requirements for my very first dedicated rain jacket and this fit pretty much all of them. I try to walk everywhere, including when it is raining heavily, and the length helps me not get pelted by rain on my thighs, butt and knees. Also, I can sit on wet surfaces after a rainfall without worrying about getting my clothes wet. I don't understand uber-short rain jackets that just stop barely at the hip... neither umbrellas nor they can protect the below-the-hip and above-the-rainboot area in heavy rain. The cuffs can be tightened, the double zip is very convenient, and the pockets are roomy and zippable (all the zip mechanisms are smooth). The hood actually stays on my head and my neck is protected because of the hood's design. This is a detailed review, but I figured I'd describe it just in case someone else was wondering about some of the same things I deliberated over. Also, for fit: I find it to be a slim, but not snug, fit. I can wear a hoodie under it (probably looks bulked out, but it fits). I am 5'5", 118-122lbs and medium-chested: 32 D-ish. I'm pretty satisfied. I hope the jacket lasts a good long time for what I paid...which was still a good deal, but I'm a poor student.

I really enjoy this Jacket. I would say that if you are looking for a trench that has total aesthetic neutrality this is it, and in that light, it is totally about functionality. You've got sealed seams, protected media pocket and inside, headphone sleeve, soft interior pockets, hidden zippers, a hood, and double zipper to the neck. Profile is really nice for such a simple no frills design. This is an urban centered garment- walk your dog, ride the rails -go to work, head to the grocery store, and return those library books! I would agree that this runs just a hair small. Really, it is intended for spring use you shouldn't have to wear a ton of layers with this. If you're in need of warmth, go heavier this is really NOT a winter jacket. I live in the midwest and I am no stranger to cold and rain keep this as a mid spring and summer trench! The thing I wish this jacket had was a little hook inside so I could hang it on a coat rack, haha. Also again, it is really specifically for warmer spring and summer rain. For a jacket that originally retails at close to 230 dollars perhaps it should be a just a bit warmer. Thankfully it will run you over half less here at altrec! Get it while it lasts!

This raincoat is a perfect waterproof jacket for light rainshowers, fits my need perfectly wearing it as a street jacket. I like the fact that it is light weight, are long, and the colour turquoise is very nice.

Cons: Low performance
