I purchased these for vacation but never had the opportunity to use them so I don't know how durable they are. They are made out of quality material. I had to return my first order as it was too large but reordered the size that came closest to my hip measurement instead of the waist & they fit perfectly. I also require a tall size and they were long enough as I usually wear a 34 inch inseam which is extremely difficult to find. The material is light and packed easily without wrinkles when we arrived to our destination. I am very pleased with this purchase.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

I was pleasantly surprised when I took these pants out of the box and put them on. They are long enough (I buy a 33" inseam jean. The info says they are 32", but I think my pair was longer than that) and the cut is very comfortable and stylish. I was expecting to sacrifice fashion for practicality when I went looking for a pair of pants, but these pants fit like an ordinary pair of khakis or maybe wide leg jeans. They're fitted in the waist and hip,but wide enough in the leg that they don't cling. They're roomy enough for lots of movement. The legs are easy enough to zip on and off, and the venting is hidden from view which is good because of where it's located.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Wish I could have kept them
February 12, 2011
First I ordered a size 6, which is what I normally wear. It was too large, especially in the waist. Then I ordered a size 4. It fit perfectly. Two down sides were that there was a small snag on one leg, which led me to be concerned the fabric would snag easily in brush. When I removed one leg and tried to zip it back on, the zipper kept going off track. I didn't want to have to mess with a possibly defective zipper, nor did I have time to exchange it for another of the same size. I wish it had still been available in a darker color. The light khaki color seemd like it would show a lot of soil. I found another Columbia convertible pant that fit well and chose it instead.

Just got back from a week's hiking with these. Love the pants. fits well but I did feel more comfortable in them with a belt, which I did not mind. NOTE: front pockets are not deep enough for holding things securely inPros: Build quality
Nice hiking pants
October 18, 2010
Nice looking, comfortable hiking pants packed with features. Lightweight and well ventilated but also appear to be made of durable material. Time will tell. Convertible shorts are also the most attractive I've seen (and I've tried lots of pairs!). The only negative - a loose waist with no way to tighten it other than with a belt. Would have been good to have a draw string as per some of the North Face pants to enable the perfect fit. Despite this, they're keepers.Pros: Great design, Build quality, well ventilated, lightweight, Cons: loose waist
Long is really long
July 01, 2010
I absolutely love those pants. I am 6'2" and the long size is perfect for me. The material is really nice and it fits just great even though I need a belt to tighten the waist a little. Can't wait to wear them at hikes.

I really wanted to like these pants after reading all the reviews. I have tried on dozens of convertible pants and can't seem to find ones that fit well like normal pants and have a longer length short. These pants were tight in the butt and the stretch fabric is not at all forgiving towards any bumps and lumps. Also, at 5'10, I was excited about the long length but found myself stepping all over them. The Fossil color is a lot lighter then it appears online. Sadly they are going back to the store and the search continues.Cons: Bad design
Nice Hiking Pants
December 09, 2010
This is my 2nd pair. I like the "short" option, which isn't too short. These pants stretch enough to make strenuous up hill and rocky hikes a pleasure...as much as possible! They look pretty good on, too. I haven't worn them and washed them enough to determine duribility but I've always had good luck with Columbia.

good but not or me

I liked everything about these pants except for the fit. I am 5'4" and 135lbs. The fit around waist was ok but around the thighs and hips they were snug. These were just not meant for my shape.

Great pair of hiking pants, very flattering if you are curvy. Lightweight and quick dry. Seem to be true to size fit. Nice material and plenty of pockets. Lower half zip off to use as shorts.Pros: Great design, Great value
Best trekking pants ever had
March 17, 2011
True to size and length, very comfortable, light weight, supreme material. Planning to wear for my Nepal trip. The price i paid is 2/3 cheaper than buying fr the outdoor gear store at where i am living.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value
Great pair of pants
July 28, 2011
I just got into hiking last year and decided that I wanted a pair of convertible pants (shorts for when hiking up a mountain and pants for when I reach the top where it is cooler). After searching around, I found these, so I bought two (size 8 and 10). I am 5'8", 155 lbs, and have a 32" inseam. The size 8s fit a little snug, especially around my rear (I'm athletic and a little curvy). But the 10s fit me nearly perfect. Not too tight and not too loose. I love that the pant legs, which can be removed, have a zipper on the bottom so that you can put them back on without having to take your shoes off. I haven't used them for hiking just yet, but I have worn them multiple times and they have served me well. I would definitely buy more... if they were cheaper. =)Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
May 15, 2011
I ordered two brands NF and Columbia. The NF was an overall bad fit and Columbia was the exact opposite. Though the waist is a couple inches big the pants feels great on my skin and was very comfortable. i will just have the waist tailored for future wear.Pros: Build quality, Great value, Cons: big in the waist
Great Pants...Just not for me
April 27, 2011
I ordered these in 'grill' thinking they would be a dark grey however they were much lighter when I received them- not a deal breaker. They did seem to be of high quality and the convertible aspect was just the right length (a couple of inches above the knee) and super convenient. I am 5'3", about 135-140 lbs and often wear between a 6 and 8. I have very skinny legs and carry most of my weight in my belly. Based on the reviews I ordered a 6. They definitely did not fit as loosely as I like so I exchanged them for an 8. The 8 fit around the waist but was too baggy in the legs. Thses are great pants, just not for my body type.Pros: Great design

Love them. Fit and look fantastic.
True to size
November 08, 2010
I really like the way these pants fit and look. I'm a little under 5'7 and normally wear a 6. Thats what I ordered and it fits really well. The shorts are some of the most stylish I have seen for these types of pants.
July 02, 2011
Nice and cool, lightweight. Love the versatility to shorts. Comfy. Rise is a little high in the front for me but still very comfortable and a keep for sure!Pros: Great design, Performance
January 16, 2011
I am 5'10", weigh 150, and these pants fit perfectly, as well as looking ruggedly stylish. They are just the right length, covering the tops of my shoes without dragging on the ground. The fabric has a nice sutstantial hand, does not wrinkle easily, and is wonderfully comfortable because it stretches. The colors (I have two pairs now) are neutral enough to disguise the grime of dusty travel, and the pants wash out easily in hotel sinks and dry overnight on a hanger.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
dont trust the size chart, these run big
May 06, 2010
These are HUGE. I'm between sizes and ordered up. What a mistake. These have some stretch so why did they make them so large? I may have to go two sizes down now.
April 10, 2011
Material is comfortable and light. I like the convertible to shorts feature. Fits true to size. Rise is a little higher than I'd like, other than that they're perfect.Pros: Great design
love these pants
October 04, 2010
Finally....a pair of backpacking pants that fit well, look stylish and are long enough....I am almost 5' 11". I ordered a long and they fit my very long legs. The lower waist feels good and is flattering. One of my very short hiking friends has these and loves them too.
Quality, comfortable hiking pants
April 18, 2011
I bought these pants because I was so pleased to find a convertible hiking pant in a long length! Being tall with an athletic build (5'10" 165 lbs), I have always had a difficult time finding ANY pants that fit, let alone good hiking pants. I've worn these on backpacking trips as well as short day hikes, and they have held up quite well! The material kept me warm on early spring overnighters, but the vents in the back mean they breathe well, even when I was carrying a 40lb pack. The material has plenty of give to make them comfortable, but doesn't stretch out and make them unwearable after a few days. Overall, a quality and versatile pant!Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
Tough and stretchy
September 04, 2010
Excellent fit, although I would prefer a true petite option (maybe an inch shorter). The shorts length and slim cut leg are comfortable and flattering. Jean-style scoop pockets, which wouldn't poof out at all, would make these almost perfect. The fabric is heavier than a thin nylon, with a nice bit of stretch, but they are comfortable even in hot and humid weather. They did cling a bit when they got wet or sweaty, but the discomfort didn't last long. Bought them for a Half Dome hike but have worn them on all weekend outings since. Fit seems true.
