Description

Lightweight, easy to use, great value and highly recommended for those snowshoers weighing up to 195lbs who are walking on trails and rolling terrain. The Crescent Moon Silver 9 – Mountain Hiking Snowshoes features the simplified SPL binding, 3 claw aluminum traction, and polished aluminum frame. The integration of an outstanding design and the simple to use components of the binding make the Silver 9 an excellent choice for recreational snowshoers and a great value for those just starting to enjoy the world of snowshoeing. The bindings are the most important part of any snowshoe and all of the Silver models have a modified version of the award winning SPL binding. The Silver series feature a simple cam-locking cinch buckle while over–the-foot buckles are nylon cinch mechanisms. The Silver series of snowshoes also have aluminum crampons vs. stainless steel claws, and polished aluminum frames. The Silver series of shoes feature 6063 aircraft grade aluminum, TIG welded tear-drop shaped frames, PVC –free decking material called TGS (the good stuff), and the polyurethane harness which forms the stirrup section of the SPL binding. All of the models in the Silver series of snowshoes feature a “fixed-rotation" hinge system, which means the snowshoe lifts off the ground with each step – this is the opposite of a “free-rotation" shoe which drags the tail of the shoe along the ground and will never lift any snow. Crescent Moon snowshoes are more responsive, maneuverable, and athletic than free-rotation shoes, but, you will never get snow thrown on you with the free rotation design, even though you may not be as maneuverable. The choice is yours, but Crescent Moon feels the snowshoes should closely follow the natural motion of your foot and the mechanics of your normal gait. The Silver series of snowshoes by Crescent Moon do exactly that. All of the snowshoes by Crescent Moon are made in Boulder, CO, USA.

Best traction on the market
October 22, 2010

This has been the best snowshoe I have ever used. I have used numerous other manufacture's snowshoes throughout the years going back to the days of wooden shoes with leather bindings. The closed toe binding system is sweet! It allows for a great fit every time. The frame design is the best I have ever used. It allows for a very natural stride for any user in any condition. The shoe will throw a bit of snow on the back of your legs, but that is snowshoeing unless you want to go with a free rotation binding. I think this style gives you the best of both free rotation as well as fix/loaded. The traction system allows for excellent traction in all conditions. Noore slipping on the ice or hard pack. Great for crusty snow or powder. All in all, I am very pleased I purchased these.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

nice shoe but designed wrong
December 30, 2009

Very nice snowshoe except throws a ton of snow up your back all the way to your head! The tail is designed wrong. Also, nobody needs that much grip on the bottom of the shoe-unless you run/walk on bare ice only! I would return them but I'll manually change them.

great snowshoe
March 13, 2011

I am very happy with this purchase. These snowshoes were very easy to put on and take off. The bindings were simple to use and held my feet in place perfectly and the straps did not loosen at all on a multi-mile hike with varied terrain. The traction was superb for steeper pitches and handled ice-crusted snow, packed powder, and established trails very well. I have yet to experience super deep snow with these shoes, but I can tell that they will handle very well to keep me afloat. The teardrop shape is excellent and allows me to maneuver with ease. The sizing of these shoes is great. I'm 5'6", 130 lbs. and wear a pack. I bought these on sale and even though still a bit pricey, worth every penny.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
