The Crescent Moon Gold 15 Backcountry Snowshoes for Women are the first off-trail snowshoe specifically design for women up to 200lbs (including your gear) and comes highly recommended for that purpose. New for this season is a re-designed frame shape featuring greater surface area and a lower nose in the front resulting in a shoe that feels and performs better in deep snow and accommodates a woman’s more narrow stride. The exaggerated tear drop shaped frame is a perfect match with the SPL (single-pull-loop) binding, which makes them remarkably easy to walk and hike in while also providing great floatation. The combination of form and function in the Gold 15 maks it easier to haul your stuff, like all that wine and cheese, so you'll have more time to enjoy what you brought in. The Gold 15s may be the most compatible backpacking partner you'll ever have. Make your outdoor experience the best it can be with a pair of Crescent Moons. What makes each of Crescent Moon's Gold series of shoes unique and worth considering is the SPL adjustable binding, recognized in Backpacker's Winter Gear Guide (09/10) as the best binding on the market. The single-pull-loop (SPL) is designed to capture your foot with equal tension in all directions, not just top down like all other bindings, but the anatomically shaped SPL harness also form-fits around, and supports, your foot from side to side and most uniquely, from front to back. Because of this unique capture system, the binding translates the motion of your foot in every direction and makes the snowshoes by Crescent Moon highly responsive. With each step you take you will notice the tail of the shoe follows your heel, immediately lifting off the ground…this is the opposite of the motion, and feel, of a free-rotation system found on other brands, commonly known as “tail draggers". The benefit of the Crescent Moon design is that they are much more maneuverable (and fun) than a tail dragger, but you should also know that natural hinge snowshoes will pick up snow when you're in deep powder; some people don't like that because they get it on the back of their legs, so be sure to wear the appropriate clothing to stay warm and dry. So, remember 'tail draggers" have less snow pick-up, but they don't have nearly the responsiveness and mobility that Crescent Moon snowshoes have. If you want to stay on the trail and follow everyone else, perhaps the tail draggers are good enough, but if you want to kick up your heels and go where you want to go, there's only one choice to make…
Love the bindings on these snowshoes!

The bindings are incredibly easy to tighten up and once they're on they are on for the duration of your adventure. The snowshoe doesn't have as much 'float' as I would have liked especially in the front, but I've learned to make adjustments for it. When I first tried them I was having problems with them toe-diving. I changed up my stride a little and that helped.

Snow shoes for my wife
March 18, 2011
Looked for snowshoes for my wife that she would have for years.Checked out all the different brand's went to the stores to actually see them in person. The cresent moon's just seemed to have everything I was looking for.#1 was the binding I wanted something for my wife that she could do on her own and that did'nt have to be readjusted all the time.Next was the construction of them soild and of course the life time warranty. They cost a little more than I planned on spending but then again " you get what you pay for ".She has only used them in the backyard so far do to me buying them late in the season but is looking forward to next winter use them more and put them to the test.I did not rate durability yet do to her only using them in the backard also that is why the overall rating is only a 4 hopefully that will change to a 5 after next winter.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
