Dakine Backpack
September 08, 2011
I wanted a backpack that was small so I could easily bike around without it getting in my way. It can't hold a ton of stuff but its just right for me - a couple of textbooks and a binder - but if you're looking for a smaller backpack like I was, this is a great one. It also has a separate laptop zipper pocket which is super cool.

I love my new DaKine backpack! Comfortable fitting on the back. Straps and handle are ergonomic. Plenty of room! Didn't realize I can fit so much in it. Loving the pockets. So roomy! Doesn't feel as heavy as I thought it would and there's still available space for more. Takes load off the shoulders when I walk. Can't wait to use it for light travels. Recommend it definitely. Awesome design, as well. =)
very convenient

I work in security in and industrial environment and use this bag on a daily basis to carry all of my gear. The straps on the outside are quite convenient to hang my hardhat and gas mask. The cooler pocket keeps a couple sodas cold for several hours. It's not huge, but generally fits everything I need in it.

Useful and stylish!

got the olive soba color. On the website, it looks more like an army green. But in real life, it is more dark green. I was a little disappointed because I wanted an army looking bag but I still like this one. It fits my laptop nicely and lots of neat pockets to put my stationery supplies and girl necessities in. I also like how the top of the bag where the straps connect have a handle. Unlike the Jansport backpack where there's a separate handle, this handle makes the bag look good.
The New Backpack

I LOVE this backpack! Everything about it is Great, from the design to the whole overall style. Holds my laptop perfectly with enough padding to keep it safe. Keeps my 2 soda's cold, holds my glasses, phone, mp3 player, towels, and off to the beach we go! Works even better for a carry-on bag when traveling by air! My new favorite backpack and you cant beat the price! Would recommend to anyone looking for a cool backpack for their laptop!!!

I love all of the different compartments in this pack. The bag is solid, & well padded. One small drawback are the heavy feeling straps, but it could just be that I'm not used to them vs. my od daKine backpack.
Very Functional

Perfect bag to hold everything you need for school and more. The media pocket holds my PSP comfortably. One of the few bags that carry both my computer and books separately. The design protects the computer in a completely different compartment. The bag is the perfect size for an overnighter or everyday use for school. I carry everything in this pack. Ipod pocket and cellphone pocket are decent size. Outer pockets hold drinks for easy access. Straps securely hold a skateboard or snowboard but the grip tape from the skateboards grinds on the waterproof material of the pack. When wearing the pack it sits comfortably on your shoulders equalizing the weigh on both sides. Top pocket is perfect for a digital camera, laptop power supply, or even a mini dv camera. Great all around pack for functionality, style, and organization.

its a great bag and is just the right size, but one of the only down falls is that the skate straps get in the way when not in use

Great backpack
August 02, 2012
I actually purchased this backpack as a diaper bag for my 2 young boys. I like to have something that keeps my hands free and doesn't fall off my shoulder all the time. This bag is great for organization because it has lots of compartments. The insulated pocket is perfect for snacks and having 2 pockets on the sides for water bottles is wonderful. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish the bag stood on its own. You have to prop it up otherwise it falls over all the time. If the base were a bit wider I think it would be helpful. But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. And it was less expensive here than anywhere else... :-)

Quality bag

I use my new backpack to carry my skateboard and my pool/park/downhill items: helmet, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, slide gloves, a towel, skate tools, sometimes a sweatshirt, my cap, mp3 player, sunglasses. Everything fits nice with room to spare. The backpack is really great looking and well made. It is light, middle sized and comfortably to carry. I have not used it to carry books or a notebook, since I bought it for sports stuff, but this backpack would be really useful for school: it has a lot of space, a dedicated and protected notebook section (I would say for up to 14,5" inches), and lots of organizing little pockets on the front section. It also has an insulated pocket that could be very handy to carry snacks/cans. It has two side mesh pockets, I use one of them to carry a cooler bottle. Dakine is known for their quality, which is the main reason why I chose this backpack. I did not regret the decision.

Great Backpack

I got this backpack to use for college and I have been happy with it so far. Seems very durable and fits nice with the extra straps across the chest. You may want to make sure that your laptop will fit in the slot, I have to squeeze the zipper to make my 15.4" Toshiba fit.
Excellent backpack

Bought this for my college freshman son, after his original DaKine backpack finally needed replacement after five years of heavy daily use. He wouldn't even consider another brand name. He loves this one just as much as his old one -- great construction, great features. He uses it daily to lug around school stuff, including laptop, and also uses it as carry-on luggage for traveling.

Excellent computer carrying day pack!
September 18, 2006
This is by far the best computer bag Ive found so far. Here is what I like in the pack. 1. I like that it doesnt have a hip belt. I never use these on a city bag, and they really just get in the way. If you want one, this isnt the bag for you. 2. The computer pouch fits my laptop great, and holds it snug against my back. 3. I like the fleece lined sunglasses pocket. It fit my hard-shell glasses case well. 4. The shoulder straps and fit are phenomenal! It seriously fits like a glove. Heres what I think could use some improvement. 1. I wish the cord pouch was a little bigger. It fits my laptop power supply but just barely. 2. I wish the pen pocket was a little deeper. It is kind of awkward putting pens in it. 3. I wish it had a front attachment cell phone pocket (you can buy generic ones of these after market. I was skeptical about the pack at first because it doesnt have side compression straps, but its really built in such a way that you dont need them. It fits fine with just my computer and/or books etc It also comfortably fits my computer and a 6 pack of beer (just an FYI). Overall a great pack for the money. This is a city pack with all the quality/fit of an outdoor backpack (without a hipstrap). My wife liked mine so much, we bought her one too (dorky yes, but at least theyre different colors). I doubt well ever use the skateboard attachment straps, but they dont really get in the way.

Great Bag, Weird Colors
August 25, 2009
The bag is functional and practical. I use this bag to commute to and from work, and for that purpose, this bag is great. The insulated front pocket is perfect for keeping my lunch container cool, and the various little pockets make the bag easy to organize. The only criticism that I have is that this bag is not "compact" by any stretch of the imagination. Items do not stack well vertically, which helps to center your weight higher up on your back, and putting less stress on your shoulders. For commuting purposes, I think this is a great bag. Not the best I've owned, but pretty darn good.
amazing bag!!!

I've had a ton of backpacks over the duration of my elementary and high school years. Junior year is pretty hectic with all the books and such you have to carry. The comfort and durability with this bag is simply amazing. (And this isn't an exaggeration) I can comfortably fit 1 propel and 1 smart water bottle on the sides, my 15" laptop, three 2-inch thick books, and my lunch. I strongly recommend this bag for high school students who want a comfortable & stylish looking bag.

zippers of good quality, and compartments well laid out the only problem is that the connected satraps are uncomfortable when riding a bike

Sick Pack. Handy compartments, great for my MacBook Pro 13". Would recommend Altrec and Dakine always. In order to get 15% on my next order I have to write a review and it has to be a long one too? I guess I'll keep typing. Thanks for the nice bag tho Altrec, in all seriousness!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueOverall, great pack. Well-padded and constructed
September 08, 2006
I like the laptop pocket a bunch but it's a tight fit with my Lenovo laptop and the extended life battery. The selection of pockets is great and the padding is awesome. My only complaint are the straps - they're great for walking, skating, etc. but if you use while riding a bike with low handlebars the top of the strap digs into the base of your neck. I have to loosen the straps so it hangs down a bit but then it doesn't fit as tightly so it moves around more.
Best Bags on the Market
March 20, 2006
I had a Marmot bag that was stolen and it was kind of good because it was falling apart. I had to find a laptop bag. My sister had just gotten a DaKine bag and loved it. I took the plunge. Holds all of my stuff, the laptop is snug and as a commuter in Chicago's Loop, the black/charcoal is toned down enough to wear to the office. For the money, there is nothing better or cooler. Great quality on all of the seams and zippers.

Cool

This is a great pack. It's big enough for all the necessary items like your 15 inch laptop, your books & clothes, your board and I really dig the two nickknack pockets for your phone, ipod, keys and other junk. It looks nice, too. I had a Dakine Terminal that was sweet but it was way too big. The Duel is a perfect size and fit. I think the straps on the Terminal were more padded, dual density, but I still like the Duel better. It's more stylish and well made.
Really nice backpack

Very comfortable to wear and holds enough for your average weekend trip or for school. My only gripe is that the cell phone pocket doesn't actually fit my cell phone.

So I am a fickle consumer. I've only had 3 backpacks in my 27 years. The first being the classic Jansport. My 2nd backpack was my love,Droors Sig 43 that went all over the world with me. I loved that thing. But I needed a new one.Now I have my Dakine Duel. This thing rocks. It has a great laptop compartment, that is padded sufficiently but not too much to be too bulky. The main compartment is roomy and can fit all the necessities like books and magazines. There is even a pocket that holds 3 beer cans comfortably! How good is that.

Great for all uses and includes a laptop specific pocket as well as straps for carrying a skateboard. Use for school or on the beach this Dakine backpack is ready to go anywhere.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueAugust 15, 2012
A well designed laptop backpack. Roomy enough to carry a bulky laptop and equipment/cables/wires. Overall construction is very good. Two front pockets, insulated cooler pocket and water bottle pocket are useful. The pack is designed for people on the go.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: lacks handle at the top.good bag

Dakine makes great bags and the Dakine Dual is no exception. It is a great looking bag that sits snug on your back. The side slots are great for bottles and are big enough to fit the bigger bottles and drinks. I have a 14" laptop and it fits in the laptop compartment (separate and very convenient) with plenty of room to spare. My only gripe is that the storage is a little lacking. I am in school and have a lot of thick books and it fits everything in but it gets tight. Also, the organizer pocket is on the small side and highlighters and pens do not fit as nicely as some other bags. Otherwise, the bag is great and is very good for day and weekend trips.
Great Backpack for Travel

The compartments are well-designed, and the size is great. Much better than my old Jansport backpacks. I bought this when I started college and it has been very useful. Plenty of space to hold my textbooks, notebooks and laptop. My only complaint is about the shoulder straps, because they fit pretty awkwardly to my shoulders.
