Best Backpack I've ever Owned!
December 21, 2012

Bought this in Feb. of 2011 Still looks great and I don't see myself getting a new one anytime soon. Very durable and fit more things then I thought it would just be looking at the size. Definitely buying more from Dakine through Altrec in the future (:

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Is not a bad backpack BUT...
May 08, 2009

When I talked w/ Altrec ppl, they told me this pack is exactly same as the women's 20L except the women's pack gives you more choice in color. Well, I ordered this one because I really like one of the color that's not offered in the women's pack. When the bag arrive, I was very excited. The material was nice and there are a lot of useful functions. The waist clip I'm not so sure about because the way it is designed, you HAVE to clip it on your waist or it'll go "dangling" on the side. Overall the design and material are pretty good. (But, the part where you put the hydro-pack in is a bit on the flimsy. It only has one little clip on the back to clip the hydro pack and you put the hydro pack in a thin layer of plastic flap. ) I love this backpack... BUT...the big BUT...this backpack was HUGE on me (I'm 5'4) so I called Altrec back and the lady said there is a difference between the Men's 20L and Women's 20L. The lady was nice enough to send me a return slip for free since I was mislead. Well, I just recently put in an order for a 16L Women's pack...and I still have high hopes...Crossing my finger now~~

great purchase
July 13, 2011

this backpack is great for skiing, supporting all of your heaviest gear. even though the backpack is light as a feather. i also use it for my general everyday things and it works great!! i have gone through alot with this backpack in the last year and still there are no serious signs of wear. Overall a great backpack. id recommend to anyone who enjoys skiing or needs a heavy duty but light backpack.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: little bit small

Awesome Snowboarding bag
February 08, 2011

I bought this bag to snowboard with and the side pocket for hiking poles can actually hold my Japanese katana. Couldn't like it more! I have included a picture of the bag below. Take several minutes to appriciate the awesomness.

Very, very satisfied!!
January 31, 2011

Completly well thought out day pak, Great zippers, and easy to access pockets. Sholder pads and straps seem to be in the correct positions, and adjust easy. Holds every thing i need for a day treck or outing.

Awesome Backpack
June 18, 2010

I bought this backpack for my brother as a graduation gift. He was thrilled! He can use his camelback with it. He plans on using it for trips and daily use. Altrec was awesome, I ordered this on a Mon. and received it by Wed. Thanks for the great service, I would definitely buy from Altrec again.

Great bag
December 14, 2009

I am currently using this bag for school and while not quite as big as I wanted it is still a great bag. It is light and durable. It would be nice to have a laptop pouch in it but I would imagine that most people are not buying this for school. Overall, I am very pleased with the bag and the service.

Great winter hydration pack for small folks & kids
January 05, 2009

Bought this for my 11 yr old son for our skiing adventures. Very well made ie durable and intelligently thought out. Would have given 5 stars if it was a bit lighter (3 lbs without the water sleeve) and lack of clip to secure water sleeve (though there's a loop). For the price, expected Dakine to throw in a decent water sleeve but you need to buy that separately. Still, if you want and appreciate top notch build quality this is it. Fit is very comfortable for his 4'10" frame. Waist belt is contoured and the integrated pocket well done & handy.

ski backpack with around town capabilities
January 12, 2011

Great comfortable backpack with a surprising amount of storage space. All of the interior waterproofing of the pockets and compartments separates this as a true skiing backpack. It's relatively flat -- unless you overload it -- so it's comfortable on your back on the lift. Lot's of use possibilities whether you are doing some serious skiing or just cruising the groomed trails.

love it.
February 23, 2010

Bought a Heli Pro 20L Backpack for my self over a year ago and my boyfriend liked it and wore it skiing so much that I ended up getting him one as a gift. He likes his new backpack so much that he uses it everyday! Great product! Also, Altrec sent it very quickly! Received it within a couple days of ordering it!

Great Pack
February 15, 2010

Bought it so I could have an easy way to carry my skis while hiking to untouched powder. It does the job wonderfully, and is loaded with features. I love the camera pocket on the waist strap, the padded goggle pocket, and the fact that you can add a hydration system to it easily. If you're looking for a good back pack for a day on the mountain, this is great choice.

Heli Pro Snow Pack
September 03, 2012

This bag is perfect. Its not to big, but not to small either. Just the right size I feel. I was looking at this one and a similar burton bag but the burton just seemed too bulky for me even though it had some more features. All in all I am really happy with this purchase and the bag impressed me more after I finally received it.

Great day pack!
January 14, 2013

The Dakine Heli Pro Snow Pack (20L) is a great day trip pack! Plenty of room for food, extra clothing layers, multiple goggles, tools, and any other goodies you need. This pack allows for vertical board carry and ski carry as well! The hydration system is nice but you have to purchase the hydration pack separately, be sure to buy a insulated system.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Good fit, balance, and roomy
January 11, 2010

Just skied with this pack in Park City and it worked great. Durable, lots of room, good fit & balance. It has a little wider profile than the Osprey Kode, which my buddy skis in, but functionally I couldn't find any differences. We didn't get a chance to test it out with backcountry gear because of the unfavorable conditions, but it works just as well inbounds packed with an extra layer and PBRs & water (which helped pay for itself). Good value, I recommend it.

Fantastic Backpack
September 04, 2006

This is my second Heli-Pro. The first one lasted six years in which I took it backcountry skiing in whyoming and utah, mountain climbing in yosemite, and tree climbing in the high sierras. I dropped it out of trees thirty feet up with twenty pounds of gear. I was at first skeptical with all the bells and whistles on this one, but unlike most of the BS that I buy, they are purposeful. The fleece lined goggles pocket is an especially nice touch. The beefed up ski tote is also going to come in handy. This may seem like a pricey backpack, but it is worth every cent.

Super Pack
February 25, 2009

I recently purchased the DaKine Heli Pro 20L Backpack and have nothing but great praise for it. I have not used the ski straps yet but will in a week or so in Alta. The trial dry run seems to work out fine and it carries everything you need for a day trip. Installled the cambelback water system and it fits and works perfectly

Solid Pack
March 12, 2011

I was looking for a pack that I could take on the mountain to carry a camera, tripod, and some food as well as something I could use around town. The heli pro has been perfect so far. Pretty low profile, and the straps are not obnoxious. The felt lined goggle case has come in handy often. Lots of space in both pockets. Good padding on the back. Fits really snug and feels solid. My one complaint is the size of the organizer pockets in the front pocket such that some smaller items are to big to fit in the organizer...but if that's the only complaint I think dakines doing okay. Haven't used any of the board straps for board strapping but I'm sure they work just fine.

Great ski backpack
March 17, 2011

My 12 year old bought this with his birthday money to carry his stuff to the ski hill. He's on a race team and he can fit everything he needs for race day or practice. He's also hoping to use it for back country skiing, as he can attach his skis and there's enough room for a shovel, probe, etc. He thought it was a great price and would highly recommend it.

Great Pack
October 22, 2008

Reliable straps and zippers, the board harness is easy to use, great for back country as well as hauling around campus. Its a great pack altogether.

Cool Color and Just the right Size Backpack
March 23, 2012

I purchased this backback mostly to go with me as I ride on my motorcycle. I love the color and will help with visibility. Dakine always means Quality...and that's what you get with this backpack.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, color

great pack
December 05, 2007

thought it was a lot of money for a pack but it was a great investment. super comfortable to ski/snowboard with and gotta love the lifetime warranty from Dakine

love this pack
January 16, 2010

I was nervous to buy this pack because I'm really small, I use it for snowmobiling and love the room pockets and how this thing sits on my shoulders. Much more comfortable than my other packs.

great quality
December 14, 2009

A very nice pack, just make sure you are tall enough for it. I didn't realize there is a minimum height requirement, so I am a bit short for it (5'5) but I still love it and it's very comfortable.

Great pack, just didn't have insulated strap
January 21, 2013

It is a great pack with lots of features but I returned it for DLX model because I really wanted an insulated hydration strap sleeve for skiing. My fault for not looking closer before buying. Altrec handled return without a problem though.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, Cons: no insulated hydration tube access on strap

Has just about everything...
May 02, 2009

This backpack is perfect for skiing and snowboarding! It's got everything from the insulated protected camera and goggles pockets, three different carrying options for skis and snowboards, a little loop for a shovel, a place to put your camelback, and it's very comfortable to wear. Awesome!

Great Product, Great Service
November 10, 2010

Overall, very impressed with both this product and the speed of which it arrived! The bag is great, well designed ergonomics so when wearing it is very comfortable, good size being 20L with 2 compartments in the main bag for seperating your goods. Goggle pocket is good size and will not scratch your lens and a cool little hideaway pocket for the loop when your not carrying your snow shovel. Only thing that slightly annoys me is the metres of strap your left to sort out when not carrying a board/skis.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

great bag
August 04, 2009

I have had other alpine bags in the past, from pretty prominent brand names, but none compare to this one. Very comfortable to wear (I'm 5'5", by the way), tons of adjustable straps, holds skis or snowboard easily, insulated sleeve for a hydration bladder (keeps the tube from freezing), lots of storage for all requisite backcountry gear. Plus it looks super rad!

The BackCountry Bro of the Heli Pack
December 23, 2008

I've owned and used the Dakine Heli Pack for quite a while now, having purchased it out of necessity during a trip to Chamonix, France. Always a bit on the short side for space and features, I finally upgraded to the bigger brother in the family, the Heli Pro. This is the full meal deal. More space, more storage options, more features, multiple carry options, everything I wanted in the original, smaller Heli Pack (which still has its uses). If you've got a small pack or no pack and are looking to get ahold of a pack useful for carrying onto airlines as well as stowing your backcountry gear for those powder-packed off-piste days, this is the bag for you!!

Not as described
January 21, 2011

Backpack is fine but does not have some of the features listed. Does NOT have a insulated hydration sleeve. There is a pocket you can slip it in, this pocket is not padded, however It will fit a laptop. The retractable ski carry is not like on the DLX version. It does not cinch on the bottom loop. There is NOT a padded pocket for a camera on the waistbelt. There is NOT a deployable water bottle pocket. Other than that the pack is sweet and low profile.

Pros: Great design, Performance

excellent product
October 17, 2009

This bag is the best skiing backpack I've ever had. Lots of storage even for school stuff and a portable computer even though it's only 16L. Very resistant and a lot of possible adjustments. It says recommended for riders under 5'7, I'm 6' and I see no problem at all. Everything you need for a a skiing trip is there, there is absolutely nothing missing like accessory you may need. Perfect product overall.

Awesome Pack
December 24, 2009

I love all the pockets and specific gear holders it has. The insulated goggle, camera, and water tube pockets are my favorite. GREAT BACKPACK!!!
