Good value in a technical day pack.

For me packs are like hiking boots, you need a few for different purposes. I had 3 but needed a day pack that could carry some weight. This one is built well, priced right, has a lot of adjustments and loaded with bells and whistles. It's the most comfortable pack I've owned. If I had to be critical, I think it may be a bit over engineered for the size (like a German car). The bells and whistles use up some volume and the main opening is a bit tight for grabbing say a camera. And it might fit into an overhead airplane compartment like one review said, but it would be tight. It certainly wouldn't make it under the seat in front of you. All in all I like it so far, and looking forward to putting to the test.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueDeuter Futura 32

Great quality pack that is probably perfect for specific needs. I was looking for a pack that would be my main day pack/carry-on/light trip pack, and based on the specs, I thought the Deuter Futura 32 would be ideal. The pack itself has as much space as a standard day pack, but is configured more vertically than a regular pack. This is fine (and probably better) for clothes and compressable items, since the load is distributed better. Also, the suspension is extremely comfortable, and the Deuter includes features that are usually only found on more specialized (i.e., larger/ more expensive) packs. The separated compartment and bottom access are particularly great features, and the build quality is superb. However, the aircomfort system also reduces the depth available for use in the pack, which limits the ability to carry more rigid items, such as a laptop or books. I could fit my 13" laptop in the upper compartment, and maybe a smaller book in front of it. I still had space in the lower compartment, but it's definitely not a bookbag. Also, the aircomfort system and specialized hip-belt and shoulder straps probably prevent this pack from making the cut as a carry-on: if you're on a regional or prop plane, it probably won't fit in the overhead compartment, and would need to be checked. Regrettably, this pack didn't end up being the jack-of-all-trades that I was hoping, but rather a very technical daypack. As I said, great for some people, but not all... Bottom line: this pack is probably ideal for day hikes or trips from the campsite, especially if you want to separate food or wet clothing/shoes/camp equipment, etc. But if you also want to use this pack for school or work, it may limit your options away from the backcountry. In the end, I ended up purchasing an large Osprey Stratos 24 (actually a 26L pack) as a carryall and carry-on, and a Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 as a trip pack that would need to be checked for travel. I guess you can't have your cake, and eat it, too... Pro's: - aircomfort system brings pack off of the back for air circulation - suspension is great, and the pack rides ridiculously well (I'm 6'3" and had no issues) - includes specialized-grade features - top-notch construction Con's: - aircomfort system limits the capacity to carry rigid items (i.e., laptops or books) - suspension system and configuration may prevent use as carry-on - not enough space to carry anything more than a minimalist load

Great pack! Very well made, and lots of pockets. I took this pack on a 15 mile off trail hike, and it was very comfortable, and stable on my back. Great quality in the making of this pack!

I have used a litany of packs over the years. My Deuter is always the one i reach for first. I bought this one as a gift - i figure if I like it this much then my family will too! super comfortable, fits a variety of hiker sizes/shapes. I love the separated wet-clothes section at the base of the pack. I usually put my compressed sleeping bag in there. it fits perfectly.
Versatile

Very versatile with many well placed storage areas. What I like, and why I chose it, was the ability to unzip the central diaphragm between the upper and lower storage areas making one large area. Water tube accesses do not allow in water like some. Pack seems to be very durable with daily use (I use it for work too, yes I'm a dork), and backpacking on 3 trips so far.
Very solid backpack

The backpack has a nice fit and has enough pockets to store pretty much everything I need on a day hike. The ventilation system keeps my back nice and cool. The bottom pocket provides nice storage for my wet shoes while keeping everything else dry. My only complaint is the pack is a little bit on the heavy side.
