Great for bike commuting, but a little small
February 04, 2011
I use this for commuting to work. I'm not a fan of backpacks that have a million straps on them and this one is pretty simplistic. Shoulder straps are lightweight and breathable, but they don't have much padding. That hasn't been a problem since you can't fit too much in this backpack. I can roll my jeans, tshirt, underwear and socks into a towel and that pretty much fills the back. There's a small outside pocket where I put a small bottle of shampoo, deodorant and soap for the shower at work. External side pockets are good for a coil bike lock and to hold gloves, glasses, headphones, etc. The AirComfort back does help to keep my back from getting too sweaty. I sweat a lot and with a normal backpack my back is drenched. With this it still certainly gets sweaty but only a fraction of what it does with a normal backpack. The quality is very good and overall I'm very happy. I just wish it was *slightly* larger than it is.

Deuter Race EXP Air Goodness!!!
March 29, 2012
Here's the deal everyone; I have worked in this industry for 18 years. I have worked with and used almost every brand and almost every company out there...period! Altrec is by far the best online outdoor retail service available. They are consistent and as a whole have a customer service staff that is educated on products...not just pumping out the jibberish that company reps spew to bolster their particular brand(s). With that said hopefully you can put two and two together that this review is from someone who knows a little something about gear. ;) So, Deuter pound for pound, bang for buck is one of the five best pack companies on the market, the other being Arc'Teryx, Osprey, Vaude, and Millett. This Race EXP Air I purchased for myself a couple years ago as a day trekker, biking, everyday pack to store my rain gear, headlamp, pair of gloves, occasional midlayer, and a few other goodies holds everything perfectly with the 3L bladder filled. After having the privilege of working and using every bladder company out there and having some leak issues more than once with a couple companies, Deuter's bladders are the best! Anyway, I loved my pack so much I just bought one for my girlfriend. The durability, breathability, and organization options is perfect...and the stow away rain cover is the goods. I highly recommend.

This pack is the best I've used. It allows me to spread my cargo out into several spots for even weight distribution and even with body armor and a helmet attached still feels comfortable. The Aircomfort system is a must in any pack. Forget back sponge packs. Get it!
