Lots of bang for the buck
June 24, 2012

I've got both the Spitfire 1 and 2. They are prettty much the same design and use the same materials. The 1 is 18 sq ft, the 2, 38 sq ft. The 2 is big enough for two campers, their gear, and the dog. This is a step in/step out tent. No crawling required. Great peak height. Having pitched the solo more than 200 times, with little sign of wear, and since the 2 is made of the same material, I'd rate it very durable. Important point for the zippers. The seams do required sealing, and a footprint is needed to help keep water from seeping through the floor. I have re siliconized all the fabric on my 1 over the years. This is a bang for the buck tent. You can pay a lot more and get a little better.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: small vestibules

nice tent
August 11, 2009

My husband is very excited about this tent. He thought it was free standing but it is not. Other than that, he likes it very much. He can't wait to go for an overnighter!

Huge Interior, Light Weight,
June 30, 2009

I started with the Splitfire 1 and was very impressed with the design. Most tent makers have a similar not free standing, 2 hoop 2 stake design. Eurekas is the newest and could copy the best ideas from other makers. For situations where I wanted more room and could handle a little more weight I got the Splitfire 2. The picture in this description is the Splitfire 1 not the 2, so it doesn't accurately illustrate the enormous interior of this design. Not much vestibule area in either design but this tent used solo one can accommodate all my gear plus me comfortably. These tents have nice DAC poles, but I use Y stakes instead of the ones that it came with. The materials, while not cutting edge have held up well on numerous trips over the last few years. I have to admit cheating though, by making my own SilNylon flys for these and have stayed dry in Alaska's constant rain and a tropical storm in the Bahamas. The Splitfire 1 UL comes with a Sil Nylon fly, I wish the Splitfire 2 did also. Overall a very capable tent.
