Exped Sirius Extreme Tent

Built to weather the worst, Exped's Sirius Extreme tent has the same durable, critically-acclaimed features found in the award-winning Sirius tent with less weight and a waterproof two-sided, silicone-coated ripstop nylon rainfly. Backpacker Magazine gave the Exped Sirius tent top marks for low weight and space that feels like a three-person tent, but Europe's Outdoor Magazin (that's not a typo in the name) recognized the weather protection in the tunnel tent architecture. No matter which characteristics appeal more to you, you'll appreciate the fast and easy setup that one person can pitch (four stakes!) in roughly two minutes. Windows open from the inside for convenience and feature bug netting to keep any biters at bay. Like other top Exped tents, the Sirius Extreme tent features color-coded and reflective elements, making it easy for beginners to pitch right on their first try.

  • Backpacker Magazine Editor's Choice winner
  • Dual-ply, waterproof silicone-coated ripstop nylon rainfly with untaped seams
  • Ripstop polyester canopy with a UV-resistant finish and fire retardant treatment
  • Seamless, rugged PU-coated taffeta nylon bathtub floor for absolute waterproof protection
  • Flat pole sleeves help minimize wind resistance
  • Two color-coded DAC Featherlite SL 7001-T6 poles with 9-mm. diameters
  • Sized for two adults
  • Average pitch time: Around 2 minutes
  • Color-coded, reflective and glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls for easy identification and access in low light
  • Color-coded poles match color-coded continuous sleeves
  • Windows open from inside and feature bug netting
  • Large adjustable end door tucks away into a side pocket
  • Outer fly can be pitched alone
  • Interior height: 45 in.
  • Floor area: 35 sq. ft. (3.25 sq. m.)
  • Vestibule area: 16 sq. ft. (1.5 sq. m.)
  • Packed dimensions: 16 x 6 in. (42 x 15 cm.)
  • Minimum weight: 6.2 lbs. (2.8 kg.) (including poles, fly and main compartment area)
  • Packed weight: 7.0 lbs. (3.2 kg.)

Exped Sirius 2 Extreme Tent
Don't know how I managed to get the Sirius 2 Extreme but that's what was sent to me. It's different from the regular Sirius by being a little smaller BUT it's got these really nifty poles in the foot section that are permanently attached. They prop up the inside foot area giving you a lot more useable room there. Altrec offered to take back this tent due to it not being what I ordered but I've decided to keep it. It's also lighter in weight than the Sirius Extreme, which is just another plus for me. As far as I can tell, it's got all the other great features of the Sirius Extreme. Each time I set it up, I get better and the tent looks better each time. Inside it stays warm and dry even though it rains here the temperature can drop to 28 degrees. Next morning had to pick large pieces of ice off the outside. That was my first time setting it up and I didn't have it quite right but still no leaks inside. Also there's a lot of room in the vestible. I'm small enough to sit inside it and remove my boots before going inside the main tent. I've never been able to do that with a tent that's light enough to backpack.

Solid and compact...
I'm planning a trip that will include cold, wet weather, and I'm counting of this tent to keep me warm and dry. Functional and esthetically pleasing..that's what I like, and I also like quality that will last. I'm sure I've made a great choice.

best tent out of hundreds
i recently attended the grassroots festival in trumansburg, ny. I know this may not be the harshest of climates but we had rain for four days straight. walking up in the morning completely dry was very comforting. there was a flood warning in the area and every tent around us was completely soaked and full of water. we slept 4 in this tent and it was fine. this is easily the best piece of outdoor equiptment i have ever owned.

Best do it all tent
I have used this tent year round and have found it to be the best do it all tent . It easly withstood wind rain and snow on Pikes Peak. This tent is a breeze to set up as well only taking 1 minute after practise. The none freestanding design is a little differnt but you get used to it.

Very strong and light!
This tent is very strong and light. details are thought through... the door has built in mesh. the guy lines have their own self tie-back connection so no knots are needed. I have already used this tent on multiday winter trips in the sierras above 10k ft with winds and 10 degree temps, and it was totally quiet and warm. i also used it in the cool deserts of california, and it has great ventilation (top vent and mesh door)... very impressed with expeds design... roomy for 2 people, but can still hold 3 without trouble. the outer fly is kept connected to the inner shell and makes for really fast setup and break down. (the 2 can be detached from each other if desired.) i had to get used to the non-freestanding 2 pole design but after a few setups, is went fast. when staked, the tent is totally stable and tight. at just under 6 pounds without the supply/stuff bags, this tent is worth taking on multiday trips/expeditions... i would buy it again!...

Looks Promising
Recently bought. This being my first mountaineering tent it took a bit of time to figure how to set up. Luckily, somebody posted photos of an erect tent on web. Given istructions are very laconic. But tent itself seems excellent, and once you realize how to set it up it's not hard. Eager to put it to first test!
