The Exped Wallcreeper is one of those brilliant innovations that you know other manufacturers are going to copy, clone or spin within a year or two. When you consider that the Wallcreeper is a sleeping bag, thermal liner and long vest all in one, it's easy to understand why this product is destined to be a bestseller. It features elasticized vertical and horizontal baffles to eliminate shifting insulation and cold leaking through seams. Slide in, pull up the foot section and secure the buckles and you have a warm vest that's ideal for late night fireside chats. When you're ready to call it a night, loosen the foot section buckles and give a quick tug on the cinch cord at the base of the Wallcreeper. What's great about the transition from vest to sleeping bag is that you never sacrifice your body heat moving from one activity to the next. When the weather turns really cold you can pair the Wallcreeper with other performance sleeping bags or a bivy bag and you have the ultimate thermal liner. A fully adjustable and insulated hood also helps keep your head warm without hindering your field of vision. Stuff sack included.
unique versatility
I bought this primaloft wallcreeper (allergic to down) and am delighted with its innovations and detailing. Why don't more bags have these features? Very handy to be able to poke an arm (or both) out of the bag. Wear it like a long vest by means of cinching the foot around your waist (more easily done than explained). Wallcreeper is ideal for modesty around camp and doubles as a changing room. Plus it has pockets for your essentials. It may not sleep as warm as Exped states but great for sleepovers and terrific as an inner bag.
Well made with nice details.
A wonderful summer bag
I hiked the Vermont Long Trail end to end with this bag during the summer of 2005. (All 270ish miles ... and I was 50 years old. I brag ... I can't help it) It’s versatility more than makes up for its lack of warmth. The perfect solution is to bring along a lightweight liner, because the bag was perfect 90% of the time. I was in the Vermont mountains for a month and there were only two nights when I needed to beef up its warmth. There were many warmer nights however when I appreciated its venting possibilities.
The option to use this bag as a jacket is awesome. I could get up to pee in the middle of the cold night and not even have to get out of my bag ... if I was careful! I was the envy of everybody in the shelters when I walked around in the evening and mornings in my toasty "jacket".
What's more, I keep it hung up in my closet at home now because it's my favorite covering when I'm watching TV in our cold family room. I've really fallen in love with the thing!
Why didn't anybody think of this sooner? I'm so glad that I took the chance and bought this one in spring 2004, even though all I had for a recommendation was a Backpacker magazine review. They said it was great but kind of treated it's versatility as a novelty instead of the long overdo innovation which it is. Double duty gear like this is worth its' weight in gold when you're on the trail!
The only reason I give this bag four stars instead of five is that the temperature rating is much too generous. If temperatures are expected under 40 degrees F then bring along a lightweight liner. Otherwise its' value is a "no brainer". Go ahead and buy it!!!
great but was cold
Spent 8 days at the end of june and early july in bob marshall wilderness. I loved the bag except I was cold. I'd say the temp was only in 40's. I must have a liner or something to make it warmer or else it would only work in the summer. Would make a great hot weather bag. I didnt need that. I needed a 3 season bag which would handle temps at least down to 30's. other wise it was great. The hood, the foot openings, the pockets, the fact you could walk around camp in it.
