Without a doubt, the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS remains one of the most affordable and well-detailed GPS units for hikers, backpackers and domestic travelers. While other GPS units offer more features (and color displays) the eTrex Legend GPS has a proven reputation for durability, reliability and ease-of-use. It includes 8MB of internal memory for retraceable waypoint tracking and automatic log tracking (you can save up to ten tracks for retracing later). The preloaded basemap includes oceans, lakes, rivers cities, interstates and other major roads. You can also customize locations with your own waypoints for fishing spots and other personal waypoints. A backlight makes the eTrex Legend GPS easy to read in low light conditions. The colorful blue case is easy to spot in your backpack or travel bag and remains completely waterproof.

Only used a couple of times in and around Boston (where reception can be spotty), however, easy to use, clear menus for a basic GPS. Cant wait to use out west during some backcountry ski/snowshoeing trips. All one needs for basic GPS navigation and planning.

Would be nice if the maps were colour, but ah well. This GPS is very nice indeed and works wonderfully. So much better than my old Uniden one.
