very useful as a training tool
July 13, 2009
I purchased the Garmin 405 to help me train for an upcoming marathon. I found it very useful in tracking my mileage since I run mainly on rural roads. The watch alllowed me the freedom to run any route I desired without having to clock my mileage beforehand. As a first time marathoner, I also relied on the pacing mode of this watch quite a bit. Since I mostly run by myself, I found that I became quite dependant on this feature. I also set the watch to clock intervals which made the run fun and interesting! I know that this watch does so much more and I plan on learning how to access its many features in the future. Garmin customer service is also very helpful if you have questions about operation of the watch. The one thing to be careful about with this watch is make sure that it is sufficiently charged before long runs. Also, before big events (such as a marathon) be sure to leave the watch plugged into the charger the night before. I charged my watch the day before the race then set it next to my race shorts, top etc. the night before. Without knowing it, the bezel was touching my race top, which activated the watch and drained the battery. I had only 14% battery life and not enough time to charge the watch again before the race. Live and learn! I look forward to many more miles with my Garmin.
