super light weight storm jacket
May 21, 2011
Wow! This jacket weights only 6.62 oz (191 grams) in the womens medium. The fit is the typical fitness jacket fit, tighter than a casual jacket. The sweep (bottom edge) is 40" which may be tight on a 37-39" hip, but the zipper is 2-way so it can be undone to give more room when climbing hills. I am 5'5" and weigh 125 lbs, and my hips are 37". I bought a medium in the red which is a true deep red. The fabric is shiny and a little noisy whereas the Marmot hyper is soft and sueded, but the jacket is 3 oz lighter than the Marmot hyper, a lovely jacket if weight is not critical. The Golite Tumalo Pertex is also lovely and weighs about the same as the Marmot. But I really wanted a super light weight jacket with lower pockets (the Outdoor Research helium only has a chest pocket) and sleeves without elastic, so this is it. It will be in my bicycle panniers or my backpack for the next 6 months--an extended trip.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, super light weight
