Air Evo Ice Hammer
June 11, 2012
I bought this for a summit attempt on the Brothers in WA, to be able to easily drive pickets, and use two axes for stability, on the steep hourglass section. The hammer worked great. It has a small head, but with the shorter length (53cm - not as long as a all mountain piolet) and nice balance, it is not hard to be accurate with the hammer. I should note that with just a little wear on rocks, the yellow paint started to scuff off. Just a sign of good times, in my opinion, but if you expected the axe to remain in immaculate condition, be warned that the paint scratches pretty easily. This axe is expensive, but is hot forged with T-rated shaft and pick, unlike many competitors. I paired it with the 64cm Air Evo adze and the pair is great together.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Cost
