Most beginning and casual recreational skiers don't want a ski that runs away down the mountain. The Cool Thang has plenty of vibration dampening for a smooth ride even through the crud at the edge of the groomed runs, but the low density milled core doesn't stick you with a lot of excess weight that makes other smooth-moving skis difficult to turn. The Ski Magazine testers also noticed that the Cool Thang was "predisposed to medium and long turns" but the reduced swing weight and user-friendly profile give beginners the ability to carve any turn they want--at the moment they want it.
