Recommended for Alaskan Bush
February 18, 2013

I have a brown bear hunt coming up this fall in Alaska. The outfitter provided a list of recommended equipment and clothes. He highly recommended Kelly Hanson 3/4 length rain gear and commented it has held up very, very well in the Alaskan bush. While the hunt is several months off, I had an opportunity to use this raingear this past week outdoors in Texas to confirm fit and comfort. I plan to add another one of these to my gear.

Ipertech is impressive.

Wore this coat to Kodiak Island for a spring brown bear hunt. Very lightweight and stretches a little. I had to size up to XL to fit over 4 or 5 layers of clothes. Coat was very windproof and waterproof as we experienced a lot of both. Spent days in the bow of a Boston Whaler with waves breaking on me. Similarly, spent hours every day laying in the rain glassing mountainsides for bears. I was very comfortable despite the challenging weather . This coat does not breath, so it is a great coat for sitting... not stalking or climbing. On the downside, even the 3/4 length is shorter than desired. It is an above the knee coat and would have been more protective if it was below the knee like some of the swedish brands. Another issue was that the draw string for the hood was received damaged. Last, some of the threading around the cuff has come off already. It will have to be returned for a replacement.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value, Cons: doesn't breath, a few flaws in my coat
