A perfect utility foundation layer for a wide range of outdoor activities, the Helly Hansen Warm Freeze 1/2-Zip top for women has a close, form-hugging fit that layers well beneath fleece climbing tops or a favorite ski or snowboard sweater. It's made with HH® Warm™ technology, a dual-layer design that uses moisture-wicking Lifa® T3TTM hollow fibers against your skin and fast-drying Merio wool across the exterior for ultra-fast evaporation. Helly Hansen applied flatlock stitching throughout the Women's Warm Freeze 1/2-Zip top and used low bulk cuffs for seamless integration into gloves and mitts. One important note: In online reviews some consumers have pointed out that the Women's Warm Freeze 1/2-Zip top fits a little snugger and tighter than other Helly Hansen performance tops and baselayers, so if you're close to being between sizes, consider going up a size for an ideal fit.

  • Fabric: Polyester Lifa® T3TTM hollow fibers across inner face, Merino wool throughout exterior face
  • Flat lock stitch construction to help prevent chafing
  • Low bulk cuffs

Love it!
February 14, 2012

Pros: Keeps me very warm, I can run in this top as a single layer in 30 degree temps. Soooo comfortable. Awesome fit! I had read earlier reviews regarding how they run on the smaller size, so I ordered a medium (I always wear a small - 5'5, 120lbs) and it was a perfect fit. Cons: Not many! It has to be hand washed with detergent for wool clothing. I don't necessarily like that. Also, there's an inside flap on the collar that kinda sticks up - looks wrong, so I just tacked it down with a needle and thread, but something to improve on. Overall, was happy with this top and ordered 2! I would order this again. I can't comment on long lasting...since I've only had it for a short time - I do hope it holds up!

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost, inside collar flap sticks up

So warm! Wish the wrist was looser!
December 02, 2013

I have been using this shirt for over a year. It is an extremely warm and cute base layer. I am 5'6 and 125 and a small fit well-my only complaints about this product is that the wrist is not stretchable so it is very tight on your forearms if you try to roll up your sleeves. I have worn this top in all sorts of conditions (I work on a bison ranch and regularly am outside in freezing temperatures)-I recommend it to anyone that needs a warm top in seriously cold conditions! Great to sleep in when camping too!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value, Cons: tight wrists

I love these shirts...they look good by themselves or as undershirts and above all are so warm with the wool and poly mix. I added three to my collection!

Love it!

I absolutely love this top! I have 3 of them. The purple is such a beautiful color that I wear it as a top instead of baselayer. I like the quality, warmth and comfort in addition to style. I would buy it in all the colors HH offers if I didn't have way too many tops.

good baselayer
May 08, 2013

goog baselayer for cold weather activities. especially skiing. Keep in mind that it fits small.

Really nice looking and warm
July 22, 2010

It runs small and is a very fitted style, but I knew that from a previous Helly Hansen purchase, so I ordered a size up. The zipper style is my favorite---very versatile. Can't wait to wear it hiking and camping this fall and winter!

Wooly Helly Hansen
February 07, 2012

This merino wool Helly Hansen is the perfect base or mid-layer for winter, spring, and fall activities. It is more lightweight than a fleece, but provides comparable warmth. The material is not itchy at all, and I have very sensitive skin. I wanted to use this as a mid-layer, with a long sleeve shirt underneath. I am 5' 8'' and 118# and usually take a size small or medium. In this shirt I purchased a large and the fit is perfect. I got the Ebony color, which is a charcoal gray with a subtle flower design. Love it!

Great Quality!!!!
February 11, 2013

I ordered this base layer top for skiing. Other reviews mentioned that it runs a little small, so I ordered a size larger than my usual medium and the Large fits perfectly. I usually have trouble with tops as I have a long torso and longer arms, but the length of the body and arms was absolutely perfect. The color is great and the material is not itchy at all!!! I can't wait to try it out on the hill! I like the top so much that I ordered a set of bottoms for both me and my husband....especially since Altrec had them all on sale! Can't go wrong with Helly Hanson!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value

Good shirt for the money
February 05, 2010

It is a good shirt. Size is smaller than usual, so you may want to one size up. Good for the snow as a base layer.

HH never disappointes me
April 05, 2012

I just got my top and can't wait to wear it on my hiking trip upstate NY this Easter. Helly Hansen products are top notch and have never disappointed me. I usually wear XS or S but this top runs small. I would recommend a size up. The merino wools feels soft and the subtle design is so stylish! I highly recommend this top as well as Altrec. Altrec is one of the few online stores that offers a great variety of HH products at a great price!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

nice top
March 04, 2010

This is a great top but runs very small. I normally wear a small but even the medium was tight. I would need a large in this top. The quality is very good. The fit is nice even if it runs small.

REALLY runs small!
October 21, 2010

I usually wear size small, so I hoped that the Medium in this top would work, given the reviews stating that it runs small. Unfortunately it runs extremely small, so it's going back. I'm giving it good ratings, though I never actually wore it or tested it out. The fabric feels almost like it could be polyester, though it's actually wool. It's a beautiful lightweight baselayer that could work easily as a top alone.

Great top
January 08, 2013

this top is as warm as icebreaker or smart wool and is stylish and not boxy and longer than Icebreaker in the torso. The purple color is nice and the sleeve stripes are subtle.

Pros: Great design

Does the job
January 04, 2010

I have the mens version of this base layer. Wicks well, warm 1st layer. true to size. Neck could be a tad higher, and thumb loops like the hybrid version would be nice. Best dual layer merino base layer I have used so far.

Great warm base layer
January 12, 2010

I purchased this shirt for my wife. I have always been very pleased with Helly Hansen Lifa fiber technology. This one, in addition to keeping you dry, keep you warm with the merino layer. Best warm base layer so far, perfect for all your winter activity... The body fits well, slim and long, like a base layer should. Arms are long but not too much. And my wife says it looks great...

running small and short
March 02, 2013

This is my first Helly Hansen base layer. I thought a size Small would fit me just fine but I was wrong (I wear size Small HH jacket). The shirt looks nice, but it runs short and small, not really stretchy.

Pros: Build quality, Cons: Low performance
