Waterproof Hikers
November 02, 2011
Everything about these shoes have led me to think they are quality-made. They are light-weight, comfortable, smart-looking and dry, so far. My reason for buying them is for the waterproof quality, as I work in a greenhouse and am faced with wet conditions every day for about two hours. I would like to recommend these shoes but only time will tell if I would recommend them to anyone else. So far, so good.
Close but no cigar

The shoe is well made but the last it came from is off for the size. The front is too narrow and the back too wide. You can loosen the laces to adapt the front a bit but there is nothing to do with the heal. I would not be able to day hike in these but can use them around town.
Pros: well made and good materialsScotland Purchase

This shoe is wonderful! I brought my shoes in Edinburg, Scotland on a whim because all my previous shoes (from different makers) didn't stand up for an all day treking...but this shoe was unbelievable!!! The comfort was surperb. I told my fiance that I felt like walking all day because my legs and body didn't hurt from walking after four hours in these shoes. The same shoes went to the northern mountains of Spain and performed so well, especially in the mud and water. No inner-leaks or slipping at all. Even in the snow I didn't have to wear heavy socks, the warmth was extra surprising. But when we got to Florida they heated up a bit too much. But I had to wear them because of the comfortability. We walked everywhere! The shoe is a little too small to fit, I had to buy a 13, yet I wear 11.5. So remember if buying online get a size bigger. Other than that...the durability is surprising, no noticeable wear and tear after months of constant wearing. And a little change in comfort...,they felt even better after breaking them in.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueComfortable but no ventilation

I bought these shoes for a trip in south america. While they are pretty comfortable they are just too hot. I wore them around in 40f degree weather before i left for south america and my feet would get too hot even in the cold. If you are hike in snow and cold weather these would probably be ok but if it is above freezing these shoes are way too warm.... im going to go find something that is more breathable as we speak.
well built shoe

found my size 11 to be a small for a size 11 if that is your norm, try a 11.5 if in doubt. my foot is mormally a small 11, but these 11s were a bit short at least to me
A Lousy Shoe
September 09, 2009
Frankly, I bought this shoe as a back-up. It felt okay to wear, but it literally fell apart withing two months. Yes, I hiked in the rain (who doesn't?),but I've never had a sole come off a hiking shore. After this I will never again buy Hi-Tec.
Good shoe for the price
September 08, 2009
I got these Hi-Tecs a few weeks ago and have put about 20 miles on them so far. Here is my impression: Pros: 1. Good traction, did a rock scramble around a waterfall and had good footing, felt confident hopping from rock to rock. 2. Look good as an every day shoe. Seem fairly well constructed although I only have 20 or so miles on them. 3. Price. Probably not something I would bring on a week long hike in the Rockies but for day hikes it's a good shoe at a good price. Cons: 1. Narrow shoe, I ordered a half size larger than normal but it still seems snug for my normal foot. Don't order these if you have wide feet. 2. Warm. I guess because it's waterproof the shoe heats up a little after some wear but nothing uncomfortable. 3. Not as hike ready out of the box like my Keens. Needed some breaking in and the arch support is very minimal so I bought some foot inserts. Bottom line is based on price and how they've performed so far, I would buy again.
Light and comfortable
July 30, 2009
These shoes are very light and comfortable. Unfortunately, they are narrower than most other shoes and I had to get a larger size.
