Description

Cut close with a flat lock seam construction for comfortable layering, the Ibex Shak Jersey is a natural alternative to polyester middle layers, featuring the right balance of moisture-wicking density for skiing, hiking and running in cold weather conditions. Significantly longer than most zippered pullovers, the Shak's front zipper extends halfway down the front of the jersey, so you enjoy more ventilation potential than most middle layers, especially if you're wearing it over a light silk shirt. The itch-free Merino wool knit holds the dye at the core of each fiber, so you won't have to hassle with color bleeds or fading.

Men's Shak Jersey 4.6 5 32 32
Wonderful Garment I have several womens shaks so bought one for my husband last xmass. It has held up well, no holes compard to a similar icebreaker piece. It is warm and versatile. It is a good midlayer in cold weather and outerlayer in milder winter weather. Works for skiing, biking, or an urban professional look. Its pricey but if u can snag it on sale well worth the price and washes well. I machine wash delicate and rack dry. December 13, 2011
Warm and comfortable. Fits well. It looks nice for casual wear but not as sharp as some other warm tops on market (fleece or wool). I typically wear a light base layer under this so it doesn't seem itchy, but if worn by itself I'm not sure about that. Sleeves were a little long (I am 5'8" and 148 lbs and wear a medium). October 2, 2011
Go to shirt I wore this all winter. Going to get another one. Perfect midlayer for cold days, great outer layer rest of the time. I wore it on morning runs in -12 degree wind chill and felt cozy. Plus, my wife thinks I look hot in it. highly functional peice of clothing gear that looks awesome too. June 17, 2011
great as a midlayer I'm 5'6", 167 lbs, and the torso part has a good athletic fit, but I agree with other reviewers that the sleeves are a bit snug. That's great for a midlayer, but I probably won't wear it much on it's own. The material is breathable and has a high quality feel, but a little itchier than I expected. The longer back is great too. Multi-tasking Garment The Shak Jersey is equally at home on the ski slope and out on the town afterwards. Great as a mid to heavyweight layer on the slopes, with a style and look (and odor resistance) that makes it a no-brainer to wear around town afterwards. I fell hard for the jersey and have already purchased two within the last two months. The craftsmanship appears to be good and I expect the jerseys to be a durable, long lasting staple of my ski wardrobe. I also anticipate that I will be wearing the jerseys around my home town on cold weekend days and nights. Even though the sizing chart indicated that a Large would be best for my size (chest - 42", arm length - 36"), the jersey fits on the tight side, so I bought the X-Large which will allow me to comfortably layer underneath it (the X-Large sleeve is a bit long, but not by a lot). Its only a matter of time until I purchase jersey #3! March 26, 2011
Perfect for a mid-layer, or top Very impressed with the comfort and warmth. I'm 180 lbs and 5 foot 11. Large fits very well, especially through the torso and in length, but arms are just a little snug. I've been usuing it around the house on cold days, at work on casual Fridays, and for outdoor strenuous activiity like hiking and chopping wood--it works for everything! I'm looking forward to buying another. February 19, 2011
Too small I really like the look of the Ibex jersey but it is very small fitting. The arms are long and the lenght is about right but it fits very tight. Iam not big, 5"10 185Lb and a "large" felt really tight in the shoulders, chest and belly. I purchased an Xlarge and will see how this does. I haven't received it yet so we'll see. February 2, 2011
Shak of Many Trades The Ibex Shak Jersey is a top quality mid-layer. As others have mentioned, Ibex quality is superb. The Shak has the quality of an old school ski sweater, combined with an updated fabric and fit. The fit of the Shak is athletic -long and lean. Combined with a Goldilocks fabric weight, this make the Shak just about perfect as a mid-layer for any cool to cold weather activity. It also looks nice enough for casual wear, the perfect Stealth-Tech piece. December 13, 2010
Cozy Great stretch in the fabric. Also love that it is several inches longer in the back. Weave is just the right thinkness and feels great as a casual shirt or for more rigorous activities. November 29, 2010
Great Purchase This product is exactly what I was looking for in a comfortable, stylish outdoor wear product. It separates itself from the competition with a large color selection and a extra long back. It does fit a little small compared to some of the other major brands. November 23, 2010
Second Shak I'm a recent Ibex convert and I bought the Shak Jersey after being very pleased with a Shak Hoodie. Like any Ibex garment, the design and quality are top-shelf and I really love the long athletic fit. I use the Shak Jersey mostly for casual wear or for layering to-and-from the gym. I ordered mine in the Burnt Sienna and it looks fantastic. Worth every cent! November 4, 2010
Really Warm! The Shak jersey is incredibly warm and not itchy. I have never had a problem with wool anyway but this feels plenty soft and is a really great warm and thick shirt. July 22, 2010
Ibex's Shak line rocks Sometimes it is best to hold off on the easy stuff and save for the best...that is the way I feel about the Ibex Shak line. I've got 2 of the hoodies and want more! My friends always want to borrow My Shaks when they show up without the right gear. I thought I would try this jersey to round out my wardrobe for many of the seasons in Northern CA. Here its all about layers and these impeccably cut and crafted pieces are all I want...add a underlayer when you are cold...put a outer layer over that if it gets colder..... or wear it naked when its just right In all fairness I am a Shak hoodie lover and so I am gonna go for another of those and save this jersey for dress up. The ocean winds where I wander demand ear protection and that little pouch up front carries my supplies. Live Simple Integrity...get Ibex! July 12, 2010
Great sweater, but big logo on the back This is a really nice, warm shirt to wear over a lot of things. The only thing I don't like is the big grey stitched Ibex logo on the back of the neck. It makes the shirt look much less dressy if you wanted to wear it over dress shirts. Outside of that, no complaints so far really. May 27, 2010
A classic from Ibex This is the sixth Ibex Shak item that I purchased. I own 3 Shak jerseys, 2 Shak full-zips and a Shak vest. The putty color is a bit darker than what shows up on the computer, and it seemed to pill more than my other Shaks in the wash, but this may be due to some fabric sourcing for this particular garment. I've been very pleased with the performance of all my Shak gear. If this pills any more, I'll contact Ibex. Their customer service is top notch. May 7, 2010
Form Fit, Thin Layer Underneath Got my Shak Jersey on sale in May so I won't routinely wear it till it gets cool again. Most already know the advantages of wool: it's warm, breathes, and controls odor well. This review is about sizing information. I bought the small. I'm 5'8", 150lbs and about a 37-38 chest size with shirt arm length around 30". The Shak Jersey definitely is a form fit. Only one or possibly two thin layers will fit underneath. By thin layer I mean capilene 1 or the equivalent. If you are bulky or have lots of upper body muscles, you may want to consider going up one size. The arms are about 1.5-2" inches too long for me. This is not really an issue. You can either turn up the hemmed sleeves to make cuffs, like a sweater, or pull the sleeves up above the elbows. The form fit keeps the sleeves in place if you pull them up. The Shak Jersey has a somewhat tailored look to it; something you can wear around town with a pair of jeans or better and look nice, or out on the trail in aerobic conditions. Zip up or down to control temps. A good quality product. May 6, 2010
Fit, Form and Function The Ibex Shak jersey has become a staple in my winter wardrobe! Beautifully made, this sweater looks and feels great...and it's WARM. In fact it's almost too warm for casual use in-doors. If you are looking for a mid-weight garment to layer, you might want to consider the Woolie Zip-T instead. As far as fit goes, I am 5'10" and weigh 180 pounds with a muscular build and the large fits me fine(not tight at all). However, be aware that the sleeves are quite long. If you like your sweater more fitted, or have shorter arms, you may want to consider a medium. March 6, 2010
Another great piece from Ibex Very nice long sleeve shirt that fits perfectly. Made in the USA out of cruelty free wool from New Zealand. Can't beat that. Also works well for layering in the cold winter months of the Midwest. So impressed I bought two. January 30, 2010
5th Shak Jersey Gift received a rave review!! I have 3 women's shak shirts and recently purchased a 5th gift shirt. It was received with great satisfaction. This is a must to include in your backpack for most travelers: holds up and looks great. The quality is excellent: well worth the price! January 13, 2010
A very breathable Shirt! I have Patagonia capilene base layers that I use during winter months; but this Shak Jersey really tops it; I use it for cross country skiing in Wisconsin for the first time; it is surprisingly very breathable. I will definitely use it for hiking the Sierra this year along with my Marmot Original Dri-Climate Wind Shirt! January 12, 2010
Worth $125 - Buy this if you are a skiier or snowboarder I own this and there is no better mid-layer on the market. I work at altrec and have tried dozen's of various mid-layers over the years. This one is the most breathable, the best fitting, and the warmest one available. This is well made and is somewhat form fitting. For taller people that have long arms and have a problem with shirts that don't cover you're wrist, you'll love the extra sleeve length that this ibex will give you. January 15, 2009
Heavy Duty This heavy wool option by ibex delivers. I haven't noticed much itch. I use it running in the late fall and as a mid layer during the winter. The Shak is also nice enough to wear out for an evening on the town. Some of the other benefits are: durable, does not hold on to odors like capilene/poly, stylish. November 19, 2007
Itchy Well made, but watch out for the itchy Merino wool and extremely close fit. January 29, 2007
Great Quality Natural fibers are the way to go for warmth and comfort, coupled with the ability to very nearly eliminate body odor, it is increasingly what I reach for. The Shak is a high quality midlayer that will last for many years, making it not only user friendly, but a wise investment. Sizing is correct. January 11, 2007
great style, color, fit and function I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He loves wool tops for his mountain biking and skate-skiing outdoor activities because they span a wide temperature range with great comfort. I got this model because of the drop in the back, making it especially good for biking. Mike is tall and takes a large to accommodate his long arms. This large fits perfectly, without the (usual) extra fabric around the waist. The raglan sleeves help it fit so well, and add a lot of style to the shirt. I got the green and I love the way he looks in it. As long as none of the other women notice.... ; ) January 4, 2007
built to last the quality is the highest, wash and wears well.looks good i wish i had this when i was a nyc fireman also when kayaking January 3, 2007
Comfortable but poor color This is relatively heavy weight shirt with quite a large fit. It is comfortable and warm. The disappointing aspect of this shirt is that the color, in my case Red Pepper, turned out to be a washed out version of the nice deep red on the web site. I can't comment on the other colors but if I hadn't needed a shirt quickly I would have sent it back. December 13, 2005
Worth Every Penny I really enjoy ibex clothing. They definately take their time in the construction of their garments. The material on the shak will hold up forever. Its very warm and breatable, and the sleeve length is perfect, especially if you have longer arms. It feels good to wear and has many different applications, from casual wear around the house to snowboarding and skiing in the backcountry. November 29, 2005
very high-quality garment. wool rocks. This is an extremely high-quality garment that is well constructed with very comfortable wool. It's machine washable too. It's a perfect shirt to wear as an outer layer for cross country skiing or snowshoeing in good weather. It's also a great mid-layer under a shell for alpine skiing or in bad weather. The wool breathes really well and accomodates a range of temperatures. February 23, 2005
warm and beautiful. slightly heayier then their base layer, but so much nicer than any fleese. February 20, 2005
Great enough to re-buy A month after my last post, a seven-day backpacking trip through Big Bend NP saw day and night usage of my Shak. In 30 degrees under my Icefall jacket, to 70 degrees alone under my pack, the Shak made me marvel at its versatility, utter comfort, and ultimate value. Pricey at $125 until one realizes the huge variety of uses, and build quality to ensure it lasts for years...even by mountain lions. The last evening of that trip, I put the Shak and my hiking pants on nearby creosote bushes to air out, as another norther blasted in with 50+ mph winds gusting down-canyon through our camp. I climbed out of the tent under a full moon to retrieve pants and Shak, and could only find the pants. The next morning we searched for 200 yards in all directions for the jersey, but could only find a well-worn path right through camp, going to a large hole in the base of a cliff about 75 yards away. We could only assume the lion that was sure to be the resident, had picked the shirt up on her way through our camp, and was using it for padding for (I hope) her cub(s). I missed the shirt so much, I contacted Ibex for another, which immediately became my favorite hiking/camping/run around shirt in the closet. It might become yours as well. Viva, la natural fibers! Viva Ibex! December 18, 2004
Buy it! This is a piece that can do almost anything you ask, in complete comfort, and in temperature ranges that flat out defeated my synthetic mid-layers. As with all Ibex garments (and I own a few), the quality is top notch, the function matches the quality, and the only two potential downsides to this, and all quality wool pieces, is weight and price; they weigh half again as much as similar synthetic pieces, and due to the relatively low production numbers, tend to cost more. All in all, a shirt that a buyer won't be disappointed with. November 11, 2003
